Title: March
Description: time for a new topic
Timmy8271 - March 2, 2007 07:57 PM (GMT)
So it's a new months so I got to start this.
I just watched the CHIKARA Toreno Cibernetico yesterday from 2005. It Featured guys like Eddie Kingston, Mike Quackenbush, Millano Connection AT, Hallowicked, Sabian, Gran Akuma, Shane Storm, The Kings of Wrestling( Chris Hero and Claudio castagnolli), Jigsaw and others. It was about 100 minutes long. Usually I hate long matches but this was pretty good and entertaining. The final 2 are Akuma and Shane Storm. Akuma kills Storm with a Sunset flip type move from the top rope. This leads to the signing of the Akuma/Storm mask vs Mask match which Akuma loses. Good stuff and you can't go wrong with "Sweet and sour" Larry Sweeney doing commentary.
Mad Dog - March 5, 2007 11:45 PM (GMT)
I was watching the Cornette and Pringle shoot interview on youtube. They have the entire thing up BTW so catch if before RoH gets it pulled. It was revealed at some point that the mystery man who shit in Jerry Lawler's crown was Steve Keirn.
Scrooge McSuck - March 9, 2007 03:28 PM (GMT)
Some "Classic" TNA weekly PPV's while making a comp. for Rowe-man. Some things I noticed...
1. The production quality was beyond awful. I could make better videos from what I learned in 4th grade about Power Point presentations.
2. Weak roster. I like D'Lo Brown and all, but he should NOT have been brought in as a "top name" when he never got past "middle midcard" in his career.
3. Raven saved the shows single handedly if the rest was crap. He was just awesome. WWE mis-used him, even if he's way past his prime.
TehDoct0r - March 9, 2007 03:52 PM (GMT)
D'Lo totally won my ass over. His team with AJ was awesome.
Scrooge McSuck - March 9, 2007 03:55 PM (GMT)
You don't push a guy that was barely fighting over the European title in WWE into a World Title scenario over night. It's just stupid, especially since RAVEN was already doing the same thing, with the same exact scenario. Working Heat matches and then fired, then becomes top contender.
Only difference is Raven has the credentials to be a top guy in a company. D'Lo didn't. He needed build up, and TNA didn't give it to him. They randomly tossed him into a program with Jarrett and Styles, then he vanished.
TehDoct0r - March 9, 2007 04:11 PM (GMT)
Oh yea, weird booking. But I'm saying D'Lo busted his ass and really won me over as a fan, personally. I didn't get sick of him until he started fueding with The Pebble, er uh, Sonny Siaki.
Scrooge McSuck - March 9, 2007 04:13 PM (GMT)
I wasn't sick of D'Lo at all. It was just bad booking is all I'm saying. And D'Lo already had me won over in his WWF run, so I was looking forward to him in TNA.
whitemilesdavis - March 9, 2007 04:33 PM (GMT)
I've mentioned before why the WWE cast-off thing doesn't carry weight, and in this case, D-lo was getting over in TNA. Had he been willing to commit to a longer term deal, he probably would've gotten the belt at some point.
Scrooge McSuck - March 9, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
Darn those contract disputes, especially Raven, who never appeared in TNA again after April 30th, 2003...
Oh wait, that's right. HE'S STILL THERE. TNA was nothing during the weekly PPV's. You can't expect many people to commit to them like that when they could be working for much better money doing overseas tours or as "special attractions" on podunk indy companies.
See also: Christopher Daniels and Low-Ki, who were never given serious pushes in 2003 because they were constantly taking time off to do tours for weeks at a time.
whitemilesdavis - March 9, 2007 05:03 PM (GMT)
Oh, for sure I agree with you on that. That was TNA's reasoning at the time.
Scrooge McSuck - March 9, 2007 05:05 PM (GMT)
It was pretty bad reasoning, too. I can understand the D'lo bit, since he was probably never in line for the title anyway, but Raven HAD to win the title that night.
I hate to say this as fact, but that still leaves an awful taste in my mouth. I ordered every show in 2003 leading up to that match, then afterwards... (imitates bomb whistling and exploding)
No matter how good a show can be, I still have this belief that TNA (and Jarrett) can still pull shit like that to really piss everyone off and prove they don't know how to make money. At least with WWE, they can afford to dick with their fans and do a stupid swerve because the majority of fans will still pay to see them.
TehDoct0r - March 9, 2007 07:37 PM (GMT)
The booking wasn't perfect by any means, but I much prefer the weekly PPV days to what we got going now.
Scrooge McSuck - March 10, 2007 09:49 PM (GMT)
One Night Stand 2005.
1. Jericho/Storm - Entertaining, but way too short. Nice to see Storm again, and without the dumb speedo either.
2. 3-Way Dance - Super Crazy rules, and nice to see they went all out with bringing everyone in for an appearence.. J.T. Smith? Holy shit. Nice to see Mikey Whipwreck, too.
3. Sabu/Rhyno - It was what it was. RVD's involvment was fun.
4. Benoit/Guerrero - Not one of their best matches, but it was good enough. Still, lack of time.
5. Awesome/Tanaka - Hella' fun. But something tells me Joey Styles isn't really a big fan of Mike Awesome anymore (then). :P
6. The Main Event - This is ECW... 90 people running in, before and during the match.
I think I forgot another match, but oh well...
Oh yeah, Rey/Psicosis. Disappointing.
Big F'N Swigg - March 13, 2007 02:03 AM (GMT)
Watched an episode of NWA Anarchy. It's fairly underwhelming

How do I watch this again? I keep being told that its "superior" to ROH, so I'd like to find out for myself.

I DVR'ed it, as it was on a local channel at 3 in the morning
whitemilesdavis - March 13, 2007 08:28 PM (GMT)
or it can be DL'd at www.thesuperstation.net

Mad Dog - March 13, 2007 10:43 PM (GMT)
Which one did you watch. It might've been a recap show for a bigger event.
Big F'N Swigg - March 14, 2007 01:28 AM (GMT)
I'd tell you, but I have no idea who wrestled outside of "The Son of Satan" beat Austin Creed (which is a great gimmick), and Slim J was in a tag main event.
Mad Dog - March 17, 2007 06:24 PM (GMT)
I grabbed the Royal Rumble set at Bestbuy today.

How much it set you back?

dynamite kido - March 18, 2007 01:59 AM (GMT)
Jesus H. Christ.
For edited Rumbles? I think not.
Mad Dog - March 18, 2007 02:10 AM (GMT)
It's really the only way to get them and it's an ok price for the amount of shows you get. Plus the Jumping Bomb Angels vs. the Glamor Girls from the first Rumble kicked ass.
Mad Dog - March 18, 2007 02:13 AM (GMT)
Also Sherri Martel sounds drunk off her ass during the women's title match at the 89 Rumble.

I have all the Rumbles. I just refuse to pay for shit that's totally edited like that. I'd love to have covers and cases and all that good shit, but I'll never pay as much as they are charging for them.
Mad Dog - March 18, 2007 12:38 PM (GMT)
$200 is about my limit to be honest. And I'll be really honest, I care more about the earlier Rumbles and those don't have the editing anywhere near what the Attitude era does.

I'd even bet on the old ones having edited shit in them. Music....and whatnot. Just like on other DVD releases and on WWE 24/7.
Mad Dog - March 18, 2007 05:14 PM (GMT)
I've watched the first 3 so far and the only one that's had anything noticeable was the Big Bossman's music. They just used his Attitude era music. The first show was iffy as a lot of people didn't have music then.
dynamite kido - March 18, 2007 05:44 PM (GMT)
Just watching 24/7 alone over the last month or so, it amazes me at the shit they edit. I mean, I understand editing out music they aren't permitted to use, but they do it for no apparent reason sometimes.
eStragand - March 19, 2007 05:03 AM (GMT)
I've watched ZERO wrestling for the past two weeks. It's been good.
Although I did see Greg "The Hammer" Valentine at the airport, today
whitemilesdavis - March 19, 2007 12:10 PM (GMT)
He looks rough doesn't he?
eStragand - March 19, 2007 06:22 PM (GMT)
Yeah, he looked a litte haggard. If it wasn't for the hair, I wouldn't have recognized him. He's gotta' be, what, late 50's?
whitemilesdavis - March 19, 2007 06:26 PM (GMT)
56. Looks a lot worse though.
TehDoct0r - March 20, 2007 04:32 PM (GMT)
I've never been a huge Lucha fan. I get into matches here and there (WWC tag is a top 10 match for me), but I don't really understand Lucha and can't just watch a block of television and get into it. I've long thought that if someone showed me "the best" lucha stuff, I could slowly get into it. Kinda like the way I slowly got into puro after someone showed me Misawa/Kobashi vs Taue/Kawada. My chance has finally come.
Anyone who's interested, head over to the DVDVR and check out that Lucha Libre March Madness thing. I just watched an amazing minis match, and am now slowly being won over by the amazingness of Pirata Morgan.
Big F'N Swigg - March 20, 2007 09:07 PM (GMT)
Watched another NWA Wildside, which didn't do much for me. I see potential, but it's being wasted.
SamoaRowe - March 21, 2007 12:16 AM (GMT)
I'm downloading an episode of NWA: Anarchy. Time to see what all the fuss is about.
Mad Dog - March 21, 2007 02:44 AM (GMT)
I haven't had a chance to watch the newest show yet for Anarchy. Though as I said in the other thread it took awhile to grow on me when I started watching last summer.
