Title: Job Type Things
Mad Dog - February 16, 2007 03:39 PM (GMT)
So really this is more an advice type thread. I like my job. I really do. It's not too hard and the time goes by quickly. The main problem is one of my supervisors is a total cocksucker. Like it's bad enough that I completely hate being there when he's the one I'm working with. The other days without him are almost always good days and I like my job again. Days with him are usually days where quitting seems like a good option.
So any advice on how to deal with this. Or just some tips for completely just phasing him out completely.

How is he a cocksucker? Does he do anything blatantly wrong that you could get him in deep shit for?
For instance, one my bosses at the restaurant I work at (I Bartend) is a total douche and I just can't stand him. He is almost the epitome of Michael Scott, in that he wants to be my best friend instead of my boss. He is always coming behind the bar and making drinks, just to fuck around, something I'm sure I could get him in trouble for. Or maybe the whole "Want to come over to my place tonight and do some bong rips?" would probably work for getting him in trouble as well. He has no fucking management style, and is pretty much worthless, and its goddam annoying.
Just saying, do you have anything like that on which you could rat him out and get him fucked?

Not really, unfortunately. The main problem with him is he just rides your ass over nothing. The other managers and supervisors just leave me alone because they know I work hard so they don't feel the need to interfere. When he's on my side of the store it's asking me every 5 minutes when I'll be done and shit like that. Plus he'll chew you out over everything and he sticks people in areas they don't know and gets mad when they can't do it quickly.

I basically in the same position with several people I work with, and honestly I can't figure out how to fix it either.
That's what I've been going over and over for a while now....

I've thought about transferring. The store I trained at would take me in a heartbeat and the managers and supervisors there leave me the fuck alone. I've also thought about transferring to the warehouse where I'd get a big raise but the work would be a lot harder.

I wouldn't recommend the snitching route. I worked retail for about 6 or 7 years in my 20's and never went that route. Who would you go to? The store manger? He apparently hired the supervisor for some reason and that might stir up some tension with you and the store manager. It wouldn't make you look like a good employee if you began snitching. Just my thoughts.
For about 5 years, I worked with a guy who was supposed to be my "supervisor". I loved to fuck with the guy....I always called him "my partner", like we were two cops. Might not be a good idea nowadays, since that's a common gay marriage turn (maybe use "my sidekick"). I also called him by his last name, pronounced incorrectly, when everyone else was told to call him by his first name. We were never confrontational through our entire time. At first, I was embarassed to be working under the guy, but realized I wasn't on display. People I knew weren't watching me, so I could be a total goofball and get into the entire job.
Sometimes, I had complete pricks for supervisor or store manager. My survival method was to usually find big tasks for me to get completely engrossed in. I'd take entire palettes of crap and stock a whole section of the store. As long as I looked competent and appeared to be busy, they never seemed to bother me. That last part is essential to my "Build Your Own Empire" method of work that I still use today.
It also helped to make friends or acquaintances with the other employees. Sometimes we'd be "fellow sufferers" and it would make the shifts easier. One Christmas, we had a store manager who would take to re-organizing the store when we closed and not letting anyone leave until we were all done. Dumb stuff, like stuffing empty shelves with outdoor seat cushions in the middle of December. So all of us began stocking the store ahead of schedule...so he'd wander around aimlessly for 30 minutes trying to find something to "re-organize". Or else we'd order pizza delivery for 10 minutes after our official close and have them waiting outside. I think he finally got the message when, one night after he kept everyone for 90 minutes after close, I punched out and asked him "so, how long do we get for breakfast?".

See, that's the problem. Even when you really are busy and working hard and at a good pace he'll ride your ass over it. Like tonight he had me in hardware and was pissed it was taking so long. But I had never worked hardware before so how am I supposed to know where shit goes. What bugs me is that he's been there for 10 years so he knows this shit inside and out. I've only been there 90 days. I can work toys, electronics, housewares, domestics and furniture really well. Stop fucking sending me everywhere but those areas and then getting pissed when I'm moving slower than usual.
And I do work hard. I don't steal time on breaks, I don't goof off and I stick to my tasks until I finish them. 3 of the people there get it and leave me alone. He doesn't.

Fuck his mom.
Then his sister.
Then his mom AND his sister.
Ok, so I've got nothing. I do sympathize, as I was working in a restaurant kitchen with a guy who was made manager of the kitchen after being a server. Somehow the two don't mix. I ended up quitting and two months later he was fired.

I've never worked an honest day in my life (trust-fund babies represent!!!)
But yeah.....
Kill him.
Quit.
Leave.
- Those are pretty much your only options by this point.

To the amazment of some, I had a job at one time, and had a similar situation.
Just suck it up, remember you're smarter than the douche, then bad mouth his ass behind his back as much as humanly possible.

The funny thing is after this little rant he seemed to completely lighten up. He hasn't said shit to me in quite awhile.

You seem to have the situation well in hand. But if it ever falters again..... make friends with his son. If that doesn't work, hook said son up with your girlfriend's hot sister. Then receive three dollar an hour raise.
I do have my talents.
