Title: Hassan & Davari Not Too Popular in Middle East
Description: Surprise, Surprise...

Muhammed Hussan and Khosrov Daivari made the front page of United Arab Emirates newspaper 7 Days recently. It is noted that the two characters had been "condemmed" by a local media expert for "pandering to the lowest common denominator."
"The world needs to be reassured that America is good and coupled with the abuse issues, this programming might do the opposite with respect to public opinion globally," Dr James Piecowye, assistant professor of Communication and Media Sciences at Zayed University in Dubai, U.A.E. told the newspaper. Piecowye stated that WWE was about one thing, making money, and they were exploiting the negative stereotypes of Arabs in order to do so. The article also made note of the WWE.com description of the two characters, which stated, "All Muhammad Hassan wanted was to coexist with his American neighbours and feel a sense of belonging. That wasn't meant to be. So now, Hassan and Khosrow Daivari are taking out their frustration in WWE." The front page of the article featured a picture of Hussan while the online version features both Hassan and Daivari. You can go here to read the online version.

Glad to see not only American wrestling fans hate it, but people who hate WWE in the Middle East hate the idea of exploiting the for their own personal gain in their pocket books. Whoever thought of this really needs a good kick in the pants, as it's very tasteless (as well as pointless).
For example, when did Arab-Americans hate Canadians? Did that even make sense this week on RAW? It seems like WWE is just milking the character for all they can before they find out (numerous times) that everything about him will bomb.

Don't go to Mania this year. I'm warning you.
SamoaRowe - January 20, 2005 11:56 PM (GMT)
Because Hussan will likely beat Chris Jericho in a match? I'd throw up.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:01 AM (GMT)
I keep forgetting it's "Hussan", unless that is a typo from whoever wrote the article. I predict this gimmick will be pulling Heat duty regularly by April.
SamoaRowe - January 21, 2005 12:03 AM (GMT)
I don't know about that Heat duty remark, La Resistance still gets an annual push every couple of months <_<
Did they already pull the plug on the Simon Dean push? I thought that gimmick might have some potential... until he actually wrestled under his new persona. We all know Nova can do better than that.

I thought Gangrel invented doing Heat duty in 2000, while Dean Malenko became the special main eventer of Jakked?

Don't remind me. I was an uber-mark for Gangrel, and thought Malenko was awesome before I became a smark and realized he was.

That's funny, because I can remember always hoping Gangrel would be on a show because I loved his entrance and his character. He was a decent brawler too, so he was a good packaged wrestler.
When I was a mark I even wondered why Malenko didn't get used more. I always liked his matches.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:10 AM (GMT)
I stand by my comment for the last 6 years: Gangrel had the most kick-ass entrance EVER. Better than any special Undertaker one (although his WM IX and XIV entrances rocked), and better than Hunters. Just awesome. Plus the theme music fit perfectly.
WHY DID THEY KEEP VISCERA AND NOT GANGREL!?!

Overall entrance, I'd have to agree. But on solely song, Hunter and Taker smoke him.

I was wondering that very same thing myself! When Viscera showed up on Raw again I figured it would only be a matter of time before Gangrel showed up again.
Gangrel could still go on to be a huge star if booked correctly. I always marked out when the Brood would give out blood baths (especially when Al Snow got it and showed up the next week still covered in blood, suggesting he hadn't changed all week.) It was that sort of great funny stuff that made the attitude era fun.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:14 AM (GMT)
Now I don't feel lame for pushing Gangrel to the Main Events in Wrestlemania 2000. That game was pretty hard, especially when fighting The Undertaker.

Yeah, the career mode in that game was uber-hard! The thing was that Gangrel sort of had a more generic moveset in the game and I think that hurt his ability to hold up against other characters (like Undertaker).
I totally pushed Gangrel as a main eventer in that game too, but then again, I also did that with the Godfather  I was still a mark at that point though.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:19 AM (GMT)
Crazy bitch... even in 1999 I thought the Godfather sucked, and his ho's weren't that good looking either.

He wasn't exactly a favorite of mine, but I didn't mind him when I was a mark. For some reason I liked him in Wrestlemania 2000, at least enough to make him main event...
I also remember thinking the hos were hit and miss. Some of them were good looking while others were dogs (I'm thinking of that huge breasted one that Big Show made out with, if my memory serves me correctly that was his real-life wife).
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:24 AM (GMT)
No worse I guess than me... (gulp) making Jeff Hardy my World Champion in Smackdown! for PSone.
What was I on?

Probably the same thing(s) Jeff was on when he was released in 2003

I don't know... I never painted myself floresent colors before, and never plan on doing it in the future.
HASSAN CHOP!

You can deny all you want, but we all know the truth.
If you want to hear something really sad though, I made Lita win the WWF Championship in my friend's copy of No Mercy for the N64. That'll give you a good indication of what kind of friend i am.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:53 AM (GMT)
... I can't even come up with a response for that. Congratulations, you win the 2005 Award for Most Horrible Thing To Do To Someone.

He was not pleased with me. It happened in a three way ladder match featuring his CAW (and defending champion) and the Undertaker.
Damn, I love that game.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 02:32 AM (GMT)
Now you get the award for Worst Idea. You're a 2x Shammy Award Winner. What are you going to do next?

I'm going to hire Godfather and Kane for my EWR diary and make Kane job to Godfather.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 03:12 AM (GMT)
... You REALLY are trying to drive the point home, aren't you?

Why, yes... yes I am. "Loser Must Turn Gay" match? That's not a bad idea, I could see Lodi and Rico forcing Ozzy Benton to agree to such a stipulation in my ewr diary.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 03:15 AM (GMT)
Damn it, you mooch off every idea possible, even when they are horrible.
<---created the big buzz about Video Game Simulation Feds. (not directed to anyone specifically here_
SamoaRowe - January 21, 2005 03:19 AM (GMT)
Bah, I was doing video game simulation feds long before I even knew people would post their results online for others to read! It was just me alone in my sad little world of lonliness.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 03:21 AM (GMT)
Oh Yeah? I was doing it as far back as Super Wrestlemania for SNES. Yes, I am a loser.

I guess I only go as far back as WCW/nWo Revenge for the N64 in that category, but I sort of did the same thing with Street Fighter II back in the day... now I'm going to go cry in my room...
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 03:23 AM (GMT)
You know whats worse? I did a Wrestling Figure Fed, and I still have the results. Hulk Hogan is a 40 time World Champion.

Know what's even worse?!? I had an action figure storyline with my X-Men! I used to keep notes of storyline progress!
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 03:27 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah? I did a "Midget" Wrestling Federation with my Power Rangers, Star Wars, Street Fighter, and other Misc. dolls.
I also still have every sinlge Burger King Kids Club Toy I have ever gotten.

Hahaha, I'm pretty sure I still have all of those in boxes in my closet (my version of skeletons). I still have my old stuffed animals in there too.
What's really sad was that last summer I bought a happy meal for shits and giggles and actually LIKED the toy that came with it (it was this Tony Hawk-themed stunt bike playset, it was pretty neat).
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 03:34 AM (GMT)
Hmmm... I don't know if I can top that.
Oh yeah... I still buy toys for myself, and will spend a good hour in toy departments looking for crap. Only figures though. I bought one of those build-a-model-car sets, but I fucked up 2 seconds into it, and the end result was a retarded car painted purple, black, and white.
SamoaRowe - January 21, 2005 04:42 PM (GMT)
I usually stop in the toy aisle just to look at what's available now, but I don't usualy buy anything. Last year I bought those Marvel Legends Punisher and Daredevil figures, but I haven't opened the packages and they are on display on my wall.
The last action figure I actually opened was the Rob Van Dam figure that came with the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD.
TehDoct0r - January 21, 2005 08:11 PM (GMT)
Remember those WCW figues that were big and waxy? They fuckin sucked. I had Hogan, Sting, and Vader.
