Title: PPV List for 2005
Description: One Word: Oy....
Scrooge McSuck - January 20, 2005 09:15 PM (GMT)
After RAW on Monday in Toronto, they were handing out flyers promoting the years Pay-Per-Views. WWE is planning on doing another Taboo Tuesday PPV. Here is the full list:

Wow... 16 PPV's now. We've already had the steaming pile of garbage called NYR, and the Rumble looks to be a little on the shitty side as well. Now we have a "TBA" PPV for June, Vengeance is moved to June, the Great American Bash moved to July, and Backlash is in May?
Plus another Taboo Tuesday... yeah, that first one was so good people demanded a return. WHERE'S BAD BLOOD DAMN IT?!?!
OH well, no Halloween Havoc this year. :(
SamoaRowe - January 20, 2005 09:22 PM (GMT)
If I were in charge of WWE right now, I'd be cutting the pay-per-views down to 8.
But that's just me.
Scrooge McSuck - January 20, 2005 09:23 PM (GMT)
8? I'm still stuck in 1990, and 4 is MORE than enough. Maybe 5 tops. 12 was over-saturation, but 16?!?! Fuck WWE, I'll just buy copies of the shows for $6 each instead of the $35 raping.
SamoaRowe - January 20, 2005 09:26 PM (GMT)
I say 8 because I tend to enjoy watching PPVs come together and such. 16 is way too many and the ppvs are becoming more and more embarassing.
4 wouldn't be too bad either, I'm just impatient.
Scrooge McSuck - January 20, 2005 09:33 PM (GMT)
I think 6 would be the perfect number. Have all of them be 3.5-4 hours long, and book 5 or 6 matches for SD and RAW each, except for the Rumble.
January - Royal Rumble
March - Wrestlemania
June - Great American Bash
August - Summerslam
November - Survivor Series
Only problem is, where to put the 6th one. Could always put SSlam in the middle of August, Survivor Series at the very end of November, and make room in the end of September.
SamoaRowe - January 20, 2005 09:36 PM (GMT)
I would actually want to stick Backlash in somewhere, as it has developed into one of the more annually decent pay-per-views.
Scrooge McSuck - January 20, 2005 09:43 PM (GMT)
Hmm... Backlash could always move to September, like Judgment Day went from October to May.

Yeah, that's true, except September-October is usually a lackluster PPV time (or it has been the past couple of years). I always like how Backlash has the momentum from Wrestlemania going into it. But then leaving it in April/May would screw up your ppv model...
Scrooge McSuck - January 20, 2005 09:52 PM (GMT)
You could always 86 Great American Bash, have Backlash in the beginning of May, then I'll have to reconstruct my idea. Maybe add King of the Ring for late June. THAT WORKS!
dynamite kido - January 20, 2005 10:11 PM (GMT)
Well, if that was the way the WWE did things guys.....they'd be out of business. Same thing with them raising their prices of their PPV's a year or so ago. They are losing fans and we here all know this. They have their diehard fanbase and that is who pays up when business is down. The only reason why they started doing so many PPV's is because it's easier for them to make money that way. Plain and simple, they don't give a shit if they are hurting the quality as long as the money is coming in........not like that should be a surprising or anything.
SamoaRowe - January 20, 2005 11:38 PM (GMT)
Yeah, but if the quality keeps suffering, even the diehard fans are going to jump ship sooner or later. I know a lot of these people are hanging on and waiting for the company to turn things around, but we've been waiting for three years now. If 2005 is another crap year like 2004, 2003, and 2002, then why should we believe things will get better for 2006 or 2007?
Scrooge McSuck - January 20, 2005 11:42 PM (GMT)
I thought 2004 was much better than 2003 (and maybe 2002). If Smackdown didn't turn to crap for half of the year, it could've been better. The buyrates may have been down slightly, but they ran more PPV's, and obviously people won't buy EVERY show, unless they have lots of money to toss around.
SamoaRowe - January 20, 2005 11:45 PM (GMT)
I have to say 2002 was by far the least enjoyable year of wrestling I've encountered yet (aside from the awesome SD6 era that lasted all of two or three months). 2003 was fun because it felt like they were preparing for their big comeback year in 2004, and then 2004 fell apart in front of my very eyes. I'd say the first six months of 2004 were very positive for the WWE (except for Smackdown from april to june) but the second half of the year was disorganized, unenjoyable, and frustrating to watch.
Scrooge McSuck - January 20, 2005 11:47 PM (GMT)
2002 I found to be better than 2003, mainly because of the Hulk Hogan factor. :D I enjoyed watching Heat more than the regular shows, so that is definitely a bad thing I guess.
SamoaRowe - January 20, 2005 11:52 PM (GMT)
2002 did have it's fun parts, but the WWF/E was a real mess throughout that whole year. The only real stability came on Smackdown in the fall.
I also remember really liking Heat that year too. I especially liked the Heat I saw live. It had Matt Hardy vs Stevie Richards, Shawn Stasiak vs Johnny Stamboli, Raven vs Tommy Dreamer, and Trish Stratus vs Victoria (making her in-ring debut). Plus the dark match was Justin Credible vs Shelton Benjamin, and this was the first time I ever saw (or heard of) Benjamin, so that was cool.
Scrooge McSuck - January 20, 2005 11:53 PM (GMT)
Ohh... Raven vs. Tommy Dreamer in a WWE ring. Wish I could've seen that episode.
TehDoct0r - January 20, 2005 11:53 PM (GMT)
With the current set-up, I wonder what the TBA will be. Personally, I'd make the TBA the Great American Bash and give that spot to BASH AT THE BEACH! Hell yea. Have it in San Francisco, and a Snitsky vs Heidenreich in a McCovey's Cove match would own. The loser is tossed into the cove and drifts out to sea to be devoured by man-eating sharks.

Would be a perfect time to bring Shark Boy on board :D
And Raven vs Dreamer in a WWE ring was a pretty good time. It was really just a popcorn match but it was a lot of fun and had some great heat.
Scrooge McSuck - January 20, 2005 11:56 PM (GMT)
Couldn't be any less entertaining than Mr. Perfect vs. Tommy Dreamer. If there was ever a contrast in styles (Mr. Wrestling vs. Mr. Hardcore), that's one of them.

Wow, I really missed that one. Not that Mr. Perfect was having many good matches in 2002, I seem to remember be fairly entertained when he wrestled Kane and Val Venis, but his TNA matches were crap.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:05 AM (GMT)
It's sad his last TNA appearence was a shit "On A Pole" match against David Flair where he came off as a dick with his pre-match promo.
He did have fun matches in 2002 though. I remember he actually gave THE BIG SHOW the Perfect-Plex.

I marked out like a small child when he made it to the Final Four in the Rumble and actually hit the PerfectPlex.

I will forever kick myself for never buying or seeing that pay-per-view. I should hunt it down online some time, it's got to be easy to find.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:15 AM (GMT)
The best part: Hennig actually did the gum spit and slap when being double teamed against the ropes by Austin & Triple H. Just... so... awesome.
SamoaRowe - January 21, 2005 12:24 AM (GMT)
::sigh:: Hennig will always be missed, I do agree that he should have won a world title in WWF or WCW, it's a shame he never did.
And back on topic, I wouldn't be against bringing back King of the Ring, except that it was usually a lackluster show and they had some embarassing picks win the tournament (Billy Gunn and Mabel pop into mind).
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:26 AM (GMT)
Nothing could be worse than the 1995 Tournament. NOTHING. NOTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had to witness that horrible garbage every week, with horrible Qualifying Matches like the Roadie vs. Doink and Razor Ramon vs. Jacob Blu.

LoL. Makes me feel better about not having cable back then
I really liked the tournament in 2000, except for the actual pay-per-view itself. 2001 was also well done.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:31 AM (GMT)
2001 I felt was too "heel dominated". None of the faces were booked good, although I was marking out when Tajiri beat the ever-loving shit out of Crash Holly. I never saw Tajiri before that (wrestle that is), and DAMN....
Hennig moment: Rikishi giving him the stinkface at WM X-8, except he blocked it with his towel, and it got wedged in 'Kishi's butt. Blech...

LoL. I remember that, what a classic moment. Too bad they couldn't have just added that to the PPV itself and not have it be on Heat.
I was making the transition from mark to smark in 2001, but I still felt that it was too heel dominated at the time as well (I was annoyed that Angle made it that far in for a second year). However, the matches were pretty good (Rhyno vs Edge, Christian vs Angle, Angle vs Edge). It's hard to complain about a pay-per-view where Angle wrestles two tournament matches and then pulls out a **** match out of Shane McMahon.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:35 AM (GMT)
Kane was also booked in a meaningless tag team title match on that show, too. Kane for 2005 King Of The Ring! MAKE IT HAPPEN WEWE!
Big F'N Swigg - January 21, 2005 12:35 AM (GMT)
My best friend watched the Royal Rumble where Henning returned via webcast. Except we found out that we couldn't get it on our school's T1 b/c of a firewall. So we watched it on a tiny box with a 56k connection, and we marked out like 6 year old girls. I nearly pissed myself when he was in the final four.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:36 AM (GMT)
Not to be a dick... It's H-E-N-N-I-G. This has to be the most often incorrectly spelled name ever since Giant Gonzalez/s and Mike Rotundo/a.
Big F'N Swigg - January 21, 2005 12:39 AM (GMT)
I swear, no one has ever pointed that out before, but you're right.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 12:51 AM (GMT)
Anyone actually know which is the correct version for Gonzalez/s? I could've sworn WWE spell with with a "z", but it seems like everything else has it with an "s".
More confusing than Mike Rotundo, since everyone knew it was "o", but WCW still fucked up and used "a" every other week.
TehDoct0r - January 21, 2005 08:20 PM (GMT)
I coulda sworn I've seen a Henning spelling on a wrestling graphic before, which makes it good enough for me.
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 09:19 PM (GMT)
Well every magazine on earth, his obituary in every wrestling magazine, and everything about him is spelled "Hennig". So either get it right or take a hike.
dynamite kido - January 21, 2005 09:22 PM (GMT)
Guys, get back on track....kill the spelling discussion....
or debate it in flamewars....
Scrooge McSuck - January 21, 2005 09:25 PM (GMT)
Yes sir... uh... We want the return of King of the Ring if they actually book it correctly. In other news, I will also be handed a million dollars in the next 4 minutes by Ed McMahon and ALF.
Mad Dog - January 21, 2005 09:53 PM (GMT)
So they expect their fans to spend well over $500 to see their PPVs. I wonder when the buyrates are going to really start to suffer and when live crowds are going to disappear for these shows. 16 PPVs a year is just out of control. I used to buy Wrestlemania but they priced me right out of that with expecting $50 for that and it becoming a 6 hour show.
It's funny that TNA so far has managed to make the monthly PPV look like gold again.
SamoaRowe - January 24, 2005 09:45 PM (GMT)
I just read somewhere else that New Year's Revolution did 270,000. I was predicting 200,000 for that show, so it was a pleasant surprise.
It'll be interesting to see if the Royal Rumble does well.
