Title: Feburary

Real F'n Show - February 4, 2007 06:16 PM (GMT)
Finally got around to watching this year's Royal Rumble. Pretty underwhelming I thought until it was down to Michaels and 'Taker. Finlay and Punk also were entertaining as they both lasted pretty long. Definately not the "best Rumble in years" like some were saying, as '04 and probably even last year's were better. And I don't think a Rumble will ever top '92's. This year's wasn't even the best match on the show...
Tempest - February 7, 2007 12:21 AM (GMT)
I just watched Vengeance 2001 yesterday, and its a pretty solid little show. Nothing on the undercard strikes me as particularly good; Edge/Regal was a bit too start/stop and their styles don't really mesh well, Jeff Hardy's performance impressed me in his match with Matt but it still wasn't too amazing or anything. Big Show/Kane against The Dudleyz was a wreck and "bowling shoe ugly" (-JR) and the opening tag was nothing special as well as a waste of Christian. Van Dam's hardcore match with The Undertaker actually kind of surprised me though. It was a lot better than I'd expected it to be.
I haven't watched Austin/Jericho yet, but Austin/Angle and Jericho/Rock were both quite good- but not great, matches.
I should be getting Unforgiven 2001, Unforgiven 1998, No Mercy 2000, and Summerslam 1998 in the mail pretty soon as well. :D
I've got some stuff to watch.....
Mad Dog - February 9, 2007 04:23 PM (GMT)
IVP is awesome. They have most of the puro shows from January already. Remember the days of waiting 4 months for a show to pop up?

I've sang IVP's praises for sometime. Great selection, great prices, and it's easily the best place on the net for Puro.
Mad Dog - February 9, 2007 07:34 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I've been spending a lot of money there lately. I feel like I can actually maintain an up to date puro collection for just $30 or so a month. I'll probably grab the 1/4 NJPW show and the 1/27 NOAH show over the weekend. Maybe grab some more CMLL stuff too.
Mad Dog - February 9, 2007 07:44 PM (GMT)
Also, you need to start getting into CMLL Kido. There's a whole world of crazy you're missing out on.

Tell me about it. The only thing that sucks for me is I never have time to watch everything I want. Between work, writing, my site, and attempting to have somewhat of a life in between makes that almost impossible.
Also, I have 24/7 now which even adds to that.
I have seen some though, and I really think it's a great company.
Mad Dog - February 19, 2007 01:48 PM (GMT)
I downloaded Mistico vs. Black Warrior mask vs. mask. Holy shit the heat was insane for this match. The crowd never stopped making noise and went insane when Mistico won.
whitemilesdavis - February 19, 2007 04:59 PM (GMT)
Ric Flair vs. Jack Brisco from a Crockett studio show around '82. 12 minute main event. Pretty much perfect.
Real F'n Show - February 19, 2007 05:02 PM (GMT)
No Mercy from I think 2000 with Rock vs. Jericho. Really underappreciated match.
Mad Dog - February 21, 2007 02:27 PM (GMT)
Downloaded the WCW Power Hour show from 1-26-91. It featured the following:
Minotaur d. Keith Hart
Masterblasters d. Tim Parker and Scott Allen
Rick Steiner d. Mike Samples
Brian Pillman d. Lt. James Earl Wright
Terry Taylor d. Joe Barrett
WCW Television Title Match:
Tom Zenk © d. Moondog Rex
It really made me miss the old days.
Timmy8271 - February 25, 2007 05:34 PM (GMT)
You get these WCW shows from PW torrents? I so need to get on that site.
S.T. Strickler - February 25, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
Watched both Money In The Bank ladder matches last week.
Timmy8271 - February 25, 2007 06:25 PM (GMT)
I'm watching Punk/Joe 2. I just can't get into it. No match should be over 30 minutes anymore. And Mark Nulty's announcing is horrible.

Really? That match is pretty fucking brilliant.
jamiegeist - February 25, 2007 08:02 PM (GMT)
I didn't quite cum all over myself about it like alot of people -- but yeah, it was really fucking good.
But saying no match should be over 30 minutes? Thats fucking criminal. We need alot more 30-60 minute matches, especially in the big leagues.
Real F'n Show - February 25, 2007 08:06 PM (GMT)
I think 30 minutes is the perfect time to shoot for in a big time match. 25-40 minutes usually can result in two wrestlers getting everything in that they planned and then some, unless your name is Bryan Danielson. 60 minute matches have a place but really that long of a match is just unnecessary for any "big league" company, especially in this age of ADD.
Mad Dog - February 25, 2007 08:47 PM (GMT)
I've always said that my enjoyment of a match starts going south quickly after the 45 minute mark. Steamboat/Flair from Clash VI is a rare exception to that rule though. But then that match only feels like 10 minutes.

I'm going to say the reason for that is the fact that 90% of them are bad. The ones that are good, are REALLY good.
Real F'n Show - February 25, 2007 09:25 PM (GMT)
I will agree with that. I'm just not a fan of the "a 60 minute match?!? This MUST be good!" or the "there's no such thing as too long of a match when good workers are involved" type of guys.

Definately. I would have to say that overall a 60 mintue match is just like a 5 minute match. It sucks if it's not done right.
TehDoct0r - February 25, 2007 10:06 PM (GMT)
Do people actually think that the length of the match makes it good? I mean besides CM Punk and Chris Hero?
Mad Dog - February 25, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
I see that attitude a lot, especially from RoH fans. I've actually seen the phrase "if it was 60 minutes, it's got to be good." I saw that a lot during the summer when RoH was doing a 60 minute draw every other week.
TehDoct0r - February 25, 2007 10:16 PM (GMT)
Ok, I'll give you that. As much as I love ROH, I avoid their board like the plague. But to be honest, you find that fanboy attitude at any board sponsered by something.
Mad Dog - February 25, 2007 11:08 PM (GMT)
You also see it with deeply flawed matches like the Hart/Michaels or Angle/Lesnar Iron Man Matches. I think people feel the need to justify that kind of investment of their time and so overrate it because of that. I mean who wants to waste an hour on something you'll forget immediately.
whitemilesdavis - February 26, 2007 01:35 AM (GMT)
1 hour matches should be a complete rarity, and only done by two world-class workers. There have only been a few that I've thoroughly enjoyed over time, but Punk vs. Joe was one of them.
TehDoct0r - February 26, 2007 03:13 AM (GMT)
Recently, I also liked Danielson vs Strong from last WrestleMania weekend. I know it wasn't a full hour, but it was over 50 minutes and I enjoyed it immensely.
Timmy8271 - February 26, 2007 10:22 PM (GMT)
There are exceptions to the rule. The parts I did see of the match, It was great.
Just watched Punk/Joe III. It was damn good and entertaining. Not as long and everything worked. I'm just glad ROH doesn't use Mark Nulty anymore.

Mark Nulty might have been the worst announcer I've ever heard.
He makes David Crockett look like Gordon Solie.
Real F'n Show - February 26, 2007 10:52 PM (GMT)
Finally got around to picking up Wrestlemania 22, which took way too long considering I was there. Finally get to see if the crowd heat holds up on tape for Triple H/Cena and also if I enjoy Foley/Edge as much as I did live.
Mad Dog - February 26, 2007 11:11 PM (GMT)
It's amazing to me that someone can be so awful at announcing that they actually manage to stand out in the long line in awful announcers with RoH.
dynamite kido - February 27, 2007 01:12 AM (GMT)
Out of all of the announcers that ROH has ever had there's only been two that I actually enjoyed. Prazak and Jeff Gormin (He only did maybe two shows, but was the annoucer for the IWC which is a local fed near where I live).
Real F'n Show - February 27, 2007 01:15 AM (GMT)
I actually didn't hate the team of Eric Gargiullo and Steve Corino for the first few shows.

Not that I hate Corino, but it was super obnoxious as they were heralding all the big matches as "MOTYC" before they were even finished.
Real F'n Show - February 27, 2007 01:18 AM (GMT)
As much as I hate Corino as a wrestler, as an announcer he was actually making some competent points and putting over guy's finishes really well. Gargiullo was just there to me, like I said I didn't hate him and he did what he was supposed to do, but I wasn't especially digging him either.

Yep. Especially considering those were scramble matches that they would do that about made me want to do a highspot onto my TV.
