Title: Rank Sports in Popularity...
Description: World Wide

I always thought this would be an interesting idea. Going with all of the major sports, how would you rank them in popularity? Not just in america, or canada, or whatever. Everyone as a whole. I'm interested in seeing how some may rank others.

Soccer
Baseball
Football
Basketball
Golf
Tennis

Soccer
Baseball
Basketball
Hockey
Tennis
Football

EDIT: It's really hard for me to decide whether Baseball or Basketball is more popular. So they're fairly interchangeable

How can football be last?

It's only popular here. Sure they play it in Europe, but it's not that popular there.

okay, so maybe it could go above Tennis.

whitemilesdavis - January 19, 2007 09:21 PM (GMT)
But it is far and away the most popular sport here.

My List...

1. Soccer - The World Cup is the biggest, most important championship in sports history, and despite a lack of enhusiasm in America, easily the most popular sport in every country around the world that can afford a ball.

2. Baseball - If I was going by "America" standards, this would be #2, but world wide, it's grown more and more over the last 2 decades. In the 80's, maybe 5% of the players were foreign born. Now it's something like 30-35%.

3. Basketball - Pretty much the same about baseball. Over the last decade, a major increase of foreign players and an already popular sport in north america makes it easy for anyone to follow. Again, all you need is a rubber ball and something round to throw it in.

4. Football - Large american fabase, probably number 1 in that department (boo, baseball is better!), but zero appeal to almost every other country. Canada has a suck-ass league no one cares about, and NFL Europe is just a minor leagues system for losers not good enough to be in the NFL.

5. Hockey - Zero american fanbase, still quite popular in most european countries, as well as Canada (duh).

6. Golf - I hate it, but it's become popular lately, despite it being a white, rich-man sport.

7. Tennis - Like Golf, Not a team sport, so much fewer players makes it hard to rank against the above.

Most Popular Sports in the World:

1. War
2. Fucking
3. Everything else

Hmm... hard to argue that.

Tell that to two of the top three players in the world.

And the rest of the world is white. Fluke! Fluke I say!

Speaking of Golf, am I the only person sick of the verbal blowing of Michelle Wie, who's won dick so far, and been a total disappointment to the "sport" in the professional ranks?

In a way, I feel bad for the kid. Someone (probably her parents) is giving her terrrible advice in continueing to play against the men. It has obviously affected her psyche to the point that her game has regressed in the last two years. If she stuck with the LPGA, and kept a regular schedule, my guess is that she'll one day be the greatest women's player in the world. As is, she's on the road to burn-out by 18.
