Title: Austin back

dynamite kido - January 18, 2005 05:57 AM (GMT)
I suppose that you all saw the press conference that they announced for him this upcoming Wednesday, on RAW tonight. What do you guys think?

No big deal I don't think. For some reason, just because Austin assaulted his wife once (how do we even know it wasn't self defense?) he's the devil. If Austin actually returns to TV, I won't mind, as long as he doesn't start doing the stupid "What!?!" shit again.

People bitch and moan about Austin taking his ball and going home in 2002, but... do I need to get started on this? Cough:Brock:cough

Mad Dog - January 18, 2005 05:29 PM (GMT)
Actually I think Austin has assaulted his wife and now a girlfriend.

Scrooge McSuck - January 18, 2005 05:34 PM (GMT)
She attacked him first I heard. She was a little touched in the head, just to add that in.

Well, I did read that today.....Maybe he's doing a single shot at Mania and then will just do the movies, maybe?

AUSTIN vs. HOGAN! Make it happen! If anyone says they don't want to see this match, they can go eat shit and die, becuase this is one of the last TRUE dream matches available. The two biggest draws in WWE history in the same ring at Wrestlemania.

I know it would be a big deal.....but I have no interest in seeing this. Also, they both refuse to work together.....so it isn't going to happen.

Scrooge McSuck - January 18, 2005 07:33 PM (GMT)
If the price is right, I think Hogan would get on his knees and bark like a dog. Austin too...

That would be the only good reason for a Hogan and/or Austin match at Wrestlemania, unless Hogan puts over JBL, or maybe a "new star" like Randy Orton. JBL has no feud for WM, so he would be a better choice. Orton is forever feuding with Trips.

AGreed. Totally.

I'd still like a Hogan/Flair match at Mania. It'd be cute.

I heard JBL's running plan is to probably do something with The Rock.

TehDoct0r - January 19, 2005 02:46 AM (GMT)
When Rock is around, isn't he technically a Raw guy?

To (kinda) quote his night after No Way Out 2003 promo: Vince McMahon allowed him to go wherever whenever. A.K.A. half-assed booking means rock to the Rescue.

TehDoct0r - January 19, 2005 04:16 AM (GMT)
Gotcha. I mean, I knew they'd stick him wherever was convenient, I was just wondering if they had a storyline explanation already built in.

I can't imagine a less appealing match. Will they wrestle in or out of their wheelchairs?

Sometimes you have to draw a fine line between good and bad wrestling. If its bad wrestling that draws money, I would book the worst wrestlers on earth better than the ones who can actually pull off a wrestling move.

To a certain degree I agree with you. However, in this case, I'm not sure it applies.

1) I'm not sure at this point in their careers Austin and Hogan could improve buyrates significantly. Sure, the live crowd would go crazy, and there is something to be said for that, but I'm not sure how many people would pay, knowing it would be a horrible match.

2) It would be bad business for WWE anyway. It may provide a short term boost, but in the end, it would hender WWE from making new stars, and therefore hurt them financially in the long run. How many young stars will Austin and Hogan lay out on there comeback trail? What does that say for those guys when nearly crippled senior citizens can beat them up? Vince needs to move forward, not look to the past.

Scrooge McSuck - January 19, 2005 04:08 PM (GMT)
Let's see Hogans first comeback...

Jobbed clean to Rock.
Beat HHH, then returned the job (clean) on 6/6/02 SD.
Beat Jericho very weakly, protecting him for another HHH burial.
Jobbed to Angle by tap out.
Jobbed to Lesnar clean.

Only person Hogan actually massacred was Chuck & Billy, and I don't think anyone complained. He only wrestled 4-5 times in 2003, and last almost all of them.

Austin... blech. He squashed people without wrestling.

TehDoct0r - January 19, 2005 05:14 PM (GMT)
Hogan also had entertaining matches with Flair and Regal, and jobbed to Taker during that time. And his job to Lesnar was HUGE, as far as making him look legit going into SummerSlam.

Scrooge McSuck - January 19, 2005 05:19 PM (GMT)
Actually the match Hogan had with Regal never happend. HOWEVER, Regals promo about Hulkamania (and sitting around the collection of Hogan merchandise) and the pre-match tea and crumpet = HILARIOUS.

Really? I coulda sworn I remember a match with Regal getting busted open. I certainly remember all the pre-match shenaningans as well, but I distinctly remember a match. Have I been smoking too much of that shit?

Scrooge McSuck - January 19, 2005 05:24 PM (GMT)
Yes. The match was literally 2 seconds long before the Undertaker attacked Hogan and split him open with the little hook thing on Hogans weight lifting belt.

TehDoct0r - January 19, 2005 05:38 PM (GMT)
I remember that too. I thought for some reason that that was a separate incident. My sincere aplogies, and I stand corrected.

whitemilesdavis - January 19, 2005 06:16 PM (GMT)
What about all the valuable air time WWE could be devoting to building new stars?

Scrooge McSuck - January 19, 2005 06:44 PM (GMT)
Like John Cena, the guy who has used the same promo every week for 16 months? Or Randy Orton, who couldn't buy a reaction from the male fans? How bout that Gene Snitsky? What a talent!

Face it, the only people new that get pushed suck. Push Paul London WWE!

whitemilesdavis - January 19, 2005 07:34 PM (GMT)
Suck or not, it's the future of WWE. If they don't get pushed, they don't have a chance.

Scrooge McSuck - January 19, 2005 07:37 PM (GMT)
They won't lose air time at all (and if they did, I would send a letter of thanks to WWE). What will? Cut backs on the constant dumbass segments backstage and women matches (Thank God).

I understand your point, but I was in favor of Hogan and/or Austin doing something at Mania. Like it or not, a lot of people want to see those guys every once in awhile still, myself included. If they were used past Mania, I wouldn't be all that happy, unless they were used precisely like Mick Foley and even the Rock (though I don't think he's in quite the same categoy) have been used in recent years. I think that's a happy medium. Using them like TNA has been using Kevin Nash is counterproductive, but using them for a program every once in awhile is cool, because it lets the fans get to see the old timers, and also immediately makes the program a big deal.
