Title: I hate Family Guy

I just can't stand the show anymore. The new episodes suck and the old episodes are just tired garbage. There's no depth to anything and I wonder what I used to see in the show.

Welcome to the enlightened side, Doggy.
I've given the show a fair shake over the years, but it hasn't appealed to me and I think it's a pile.
Their TV spoofs are tired, humorously challenged, and go on way too long. "Look, we're spoofing Three's Company!! Look, we're spoofing Three's Company!! Look, we're spoofing Three's Company!!"
People think they're laughing at Family Guy..but they're laughing at the spoofed show, NOT Family Guy. Take that away and you're left with a really shitty version of the Simpsons. South Park's relied on the TV spoofs recently (Buck Rogers and Dog the Bounty Hunter), but the instances are usually tied into the plot more. Plus, South Park on its own, without TV spoofs, has enough substance. Family Guy doesn't.
I also don't care for the way all the absurd flashbacks and mental images disrupt the plot. A typical scene is:
"Peter, where's your bath towel?"
"Sorry, Lois, I must have squished it into the couch when I was sleeping and dreaming of the Immaculate Reception"
--Cut to an incredibly UN funny routine of a naked Peter outrunning Franco Harris. It goes on for 45 seconds--
The fact that it gained a "cult" following when it was cancelled around 2000 seemed to make it "cool". It never was cool, but it became trendy to say that YOU were one of the select few who swam against the stream and wanted that wacky Family Guy back!

I've noticed I've been able to watch Futurama over and over again and it never gets old. But the characters have a lot of depth to them so after you know all the punchlines you still want to come back for the characters and how they interact.
Family Guy there's just nothing to anymore. Stewie was funny as the evil would be tyrant but they veered him off into some vague gay kind of character somewhere along the way. Brian seemed to have some depth but that got lost with the new show.
It really was just a one trick pony.

Just a sidenote for you E. You should check out the Venture Brothers. Great show.

I really liked it when it first aired, but it's mostly because I'd never seen a show like it before. I liked it in college because it was something to help me unwind before going to sleep. I tried to watch it a few weeks ago, and all I could see was that Cartman's complaints about Family Guy were absolutely valid.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I still like family guy and hate Venture brothers.
Family guy is not as good as south park but still better than the Simpsons.

Yeah, I gave up on the Simpsons probably about 5 years ago. I try to watch a new episode every now and then and am reminded why I don't watch anymore really quickly.

To me, the third season of Family Guy is consistently the funniest show I have ever seen of any show ever. The first and second seasons are very good. The shows since it came back on the air started out strong, and have been sadly fizzling out as it seems (though each episode is still usually guarenteed to have one or two LOL moments).
I do understand the complaints about the show, and I don't think they are off base, but I enjoy the show anyway.

Nice to see everyone now sees what I saw back when the show first came back like 2 years ago.
And same opinion on the Simpsons. I try watching a new episode every few months, but I'm reminded of how bad the series has gotten, then go cold turkey on it again.
