Title: Random comments that don't warrant a thread.
Description: Mad dog misses...

Mad Dog - November 2, 2006 04:02 AM (GMT)
That crappy gum that used to come with baseball cards.

D.A.V.E. - November 2, 2006 12:00 PM (GMT)
This might sound silly. But I'd like to be able to buy a packet of lemon tea bags in the supermarket. You can't get them anywhere here. It's all green tea with lemon. or Lemon and Ginger - I hate Ginger.

Mad Dog - November 2, 2006 12:20 PM (GMT)
Maybe you'll be able to get them once the green tea fad dies down.

SamoaRowe - December 14, 2006 12:46 AM (GMT)
I really miss the Red Green Show on PBS. That was some good old fashioned stupid Canadian humor and I just loved it.

prof_plague - December 14, 2006 08:22 AM (GMT)
Canada sucks!

Plague's only post within the past week.

SamoaRowe - December 14, 2006 01:44 PM (GMT)
And what a post it is!

And if it sucks so badly, how come they have such great catch phrases, eh?

Big F'N Swigg - December 14, 2006 02:08 PM (GMT)
I haven't seen Red Green since I moved back to Tennessee. I'm about to call my PBS station and make a donation just to get it on the air down here

SamoaRowe - December 14, 2006 04:08 PM (GMT)
The other night I couldn't sleep and the Celtic Woman concert was on PBS. I ended up falling asleep watching that, as watching some attractive women sing otherwise obnoxious songs fairly well was enough to put me under.

We should all support PBS!

eStragand - December 14, 2006 06:20 PM (GMT)
Everytime I'd sit down to watch PBS, I'd catch the last five minutes of something neat....like Pink Floyd's the Wall or Austin City Limits.

Then it'd cut to Dr. Who.

SamoaRowe - December 14, 2006 06:22 PM (GMT)
I miss the old school Dr. Who shows. Those were great back in the day when I was in middle school and my only television choices were ABC or PBS.

I also miss Red Dwarf. The dvds are too fucking expensive.

I firmly believe that Austin City Limits is the best music show on TV. Hands down.

And I'd have to agree that there is way too much Dr. Who on PBS stations

SamoaRowe - December 14, 2006 08:28 PM (GMT)
The two local PBS stations in my area haven't played Dr. Who in ages.

I miss the old British tv lineup they used to have on Tuesdays. Are You Being Served, Red Dwarf, Monty Python, Murder So Horrid, and some other random shows were goofy fun for the non-cable viewer.

It was funny when I finally got cable in 2000, I abandoned ABC and PBS so fast it wasn't even fair.

SamoaRowe - December 14, 2006 08:33 PM (GMT)
Great, three of my cats have learned that if they meow at the window near the computer, someone will get up and let them in. Everytime I look up there's a cat meowing at me.

eStragand - December 14, 2006 09:12 PM (GMT)
Rowe gets pussy everytime he's at the computer.

Great...now we have THREE of these rambling "random" threads.

"The Everyday chat", the "Post Whoring" thread and now this one.

Big F'N Swigg - December 14, 2006 09:26 PM (GMT)
But this IS Random Stuff, is it not?

eStragand - December 14, 2006 09:49 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that's the title.. but it's "random stuff" for "Entertainment". So, video games, pop culture, internet crap, opera (opera?!!).. random stuff about crap like that.

"General Discussion" is where something like this should go. In fact, I think we should merge all THREE of the threads into one, under "General Discussion".

Edit: looking back, this was basically a thread about PBS (which shoulda' gone in "TV & Movies"), until Rowe started talking pussy.

I don't know...it's a tight line between moderating this stuff and just being an asshole.

dynamite kido - December 14, 2006 11:39 PM (GMT)
You moderate E, I'll be the asshole. Deal?

Big F'N Swigg - December 15, 2006 03:05 AM (GMT)
Wait, Rowe's a talking pussy?

SamoaRowe - December 15, 2006 06:38 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but this is my folder so I'll do what I want B) That is, until one of the admin yanks it away from me.

Actually, the original inspiration for this thread was the thread that Mad Dog started a while back where he missed the cheap gum that used to come with baseball cards.

Big F'N Swigg - December 15, 2006 03:02 PM (GMT)
I miss wanting to collect baseball cards

SamoaRowe - December 15, 2006 03:11 PM (GMT)
I occasionally buy a pack of baseball cards for the sheer hell of it. What can I say, I like reliving aspects of childhood.

What I really miss are Marvel collector cards, not the ones that are part of a game, but just those awesome cards.

Big F'N Swigg - December 15, 2006 03:14 PM (GMT)
I hate paying $3 for something like 8 cards. Not to mention that every card company has something like 3 different types of cards that they put out.

SamoaRowe - December 15, 2006 11:25 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I used to get angry when I'd keep getting the same damn Green Goblin card over and over again.

And in a useless mod act, I experimented with merging topics. You'll now notice that Mad Dog's underrated bubble gum thread is in here now :ph43r:

S.T. Strickler - December 16, 2006 12:06 AM (GMT)
I still collect sports cards every now and then.. During the summer, my neighbor's boyfriend had a bunch of old 70's and 80's baseball cards. I made him and offer of $20, and of all the cards there, I uncovered a 1983 Tony Gwynn card worth $25.. I think all the rest combined are worth a few hundred dollars.

SamoaRowe - December 21, 2006 09:16 PM (GMT)
It's official... the final Harry Potter book will be called "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows." Sounds creepy.

SamoaRowe - January 13, 2007 06:36 AM (GMT)
Yeah, so I was hanging out with Plague tonight. I'm driving home and I get pulled over for speeding. Turns out I was going 48 in a 35. The cop just gives me a warning and sends me on my merry way. I continue driving, while the cop is still parked. Another car comes down the road, and would have seen the police lights and me pulling out. The car doesn't slow down and I see the cop pulling him over in my rear view (which was a relief, for a second I thought I was being pulled over again). I just thought that was kind of humorous B)

prof_plague - January 13, 2007 09:00 AM (GMT)
The other night I was driving home around 1 a.m. A cop pulls out of a gas station and follows me for a few. While following me, the cop turns off his headlights and speeds up behind me. Nothing happened. I wasn't pulled over, nor was I even doing anything wrong in the first place. It was just kind of weird to have a cop pull out beind me and follow me at 1 a.m. with his headlights off.

Just another reason why I don't trust cops.

SamoaRowe - January 13, 2007 04:31 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I guess most cops feel that just by being out and about at 1 am means you have to be up to something. I'm usually sober and going home from hanging out somewhere.

Big F'N Swigg - January 13, 2007 05:10 PM (GMT)
Cops here bait people by speeding. The people see the cop speeding, and follow behind at the same speed, then the cop flags them for going over the limit. My wife almost fell for it going to a family get-together.

SamoaRowe - January 13, 2007 05:15 PM (GMT)
What a load of bullshit those cops pull, Swiggy. I sort of feel like that sometimes when I'm driving home from school. Everytime I have a cop behind me in Hooksett, NH, I feel like they are driving on my ass, daring me to speed up.

Big F'N Swigg - January 13, 2007 05:22 PM (GMT)
Yeah, the cops in the town next to where I live are notorious for speed traps and crap like that. According to my dad and my grandpa, it's a "tradition" handed down since the days of political "bosses." It stuck around in the south much longer than it did in the urban areas and in the north.

SamoaRowe - January 13, 2007 05:27 PM (GMT)
Ah yes, the South. Some southerners aren't big fans of change, eh?

Funny thing is, as annoying as that stereotype is, it's fairly true.

Mad Dog - January 13, 2007 10:09 PM (GMT)
It's true everywhere really.

Big F'N Swigg - January 13, 2007 10:48 PM (GMT)
Just like there are rednecks everywhere.

I moved to Ohio when I was in sixth grade. This kid made fun of me because I had a southern accent. Funny thing was, he listened to Garth Brooks and would later wear Wranglers and dip Skoal. Me? I'm a ex-sXe metalhead. WHO'S THE REDNECK NOW, BITCH???

SamoaRowe - January 13, 2007 11:19 PM (GMT)
There are indeed rednecks everywhere. New England is full of them. Especially Maine, I swear Maine used to be down South and someone had it transplanted.

Mad Dog - January 14, 2007 02:01 AM (GMT)
There's a difference though. Do you have rednecks, hillbillies or white trash? Rednecks are harmless for the most part. They have the accent but that's really it. The hillbillies and white trash are the really bad ones.

SamoaRowe - January 14, 2007 03:08 AM (GMT)
I spend a couple of weeks camping every summer in Maine. While the folks up there are mainly rednecks, there are some really bad white trash up there too. I had a rather unpleasant incident with one such case, who has married and pretty much abducted the daughter of our friends up there.

SamoaRowe - January 21, 2007 02:35 PM (GMT)
I bought a Wii today :D

I resent that. And don't agree. Hillbillies and Hicks are the harmless ones. Rednecks and white trash are the troublesome ones.
