Title: I actually watched the PPV tonight.

dynamite kido - January 17, 2005 07:05 AM (GMT)
and I really liked it.

I watched the PPV tonight at a friends house and was pleasantly surprised that it was pretty good. The opener was a six man that I was expecting to be horrible between Kazarian/Shane/Daniels vs. 3LK. It was a good opener as they let Killings and Daniels get in their spots in with some solid work by all parties. It's safe to say they worked to everyone's strengths in this one and actually gave it decent time to develop. I'd put it in at about **1/4.

Second match on the card was Sonjay/Skipper. I was glad they threw this in basically for no reason other to get Elix on the card and to have another filler match. I was curious to see how these two would match up and I enjoyed watching this one. It was your typical match that you would expect out of these two, trading highspots but doing surprisingly good selling in the match. Elix has his arm worked nicely by Sonjay and sold it thoughout as well did Dutt selling the rib area. Pleasant surprise and a nice match to go second in the card. The crowd was definately into the spots as well. I'd put this at ***.

Dustin Rhodes and Kid Kash went up third and put on a fairly decent match too. They worked the "Fit Finlay" spot where Kash hurts the knee and the ref steps in to check the injury. Kash would sell it to a point and then attack Rhodes when he was open. It was alright, but the spot didn't go over as well as I would have thought. The crowd just wasn't buying it enough.

The fourth match of the show ended up being Raven/Watts and that surprised me considering the news that came up over the past few days about Watts. This match wasn't anything special, but I would say that it was Watts best effort in TNA to date. Raven did a great job at making Watts look good and surprisingly put over Watts in the match. They did mess up a few spots in the match but they did do some nice exchanges and there was something there with this match. That can't be said for most of Watts stuff in TNA though. I'd rate this at about **.

Next up was Hardy/Hall. I was not looking forward to this match and I could have done without it. Piper was the guest ref in case anyone reading this didn't know. This was about as bad as you could expect, but I even felt bad for Hall in this one(and I can't stand Hall at this point anymore either), but Hardy is seriously the fucking pits in the ring. This was about 1/4*.

They decided to put Nash/Brown/DDP match at the six spot on the show. They basically did an angle where DDP and Nash were working together and it didn't quite workout that way. Also, I apparently didn't realize until tonight that this also had the battle royal rule of over the top rope. I'm pretty sure that Nash didn't wanna take an L, so that's probably why they threw that in there. Monty Brown ended up winning this one over DDP in the final after Nash was already eliminated by going over the top. This wasn't too great, but it wasn't terrible. I'd rate it *1/4.

Team Canada/AMW was up next and I was curious about this one for sure. I was VERY impressed by the work that both teams put into this and I really liked this match. I thought that everyone did their parts and I enjoyed the old school build up for the face tag in this one. They gave them plenty of time and the match told a really good story. AMW did win the tag belts, but if they are planning to build up a tag division then I don't mind so much. Great effort, I'd rate this match at about ***1/2.

Ultimate X was going on before the main event and boy did JJ/Monty have a tough act to follow. AJ/Petey/Sabin all had their working boots on and they pulled out the greatest Ultimate X to date IMO. Great match with AJ winning the X division title in a way that has to be seen. I really liked the build in this one with all the close calls. The only bad spot in this one is when Petey actually went for a cover, but it didn't ruin the match by a long shot. I recommend that if you are a fan of any of the three that you find a way to get this tape (PM me if you trade tapes), or order the replay this week for this match! I know it's early, but I would put this in my MOTYC for 2005 right now. I'd rate it at about ****-****1/4.

The main was simply Monty/JJ for the NWA title. The match was solid, but JJ kept the title. I really don't have much to say about this accept for that I can't believe that they wouldn't have switched the title here. I honestly have no clue or real interest in the NWA Heavyweight title right now at all. I hate Jarrett and all his horrible bullshit. This ended the PPV on a real sour note for me. I'd rate the match at **1/4.

-Other than the fact that Jarrett kept, I really enjoyed the PPV and thought it was overall entertaining. AJ wins the X title, AMW picks up the tag titles, and JJ keeps..........

Your ratings are MUCH MORE believable than the non-stop ***-****+ being handed out to every match by people on TSM. Sounds like a good show overall, maybe better than Turning Point.

Big F'N Swigg - January 17, 2005 03:29 PM (GMT)
If you've noticed, Slapnuts! has somewhat taken over the TSM folder and won't let anyone speak negatively about TNA. He's as confident in the TNA folder as Rudo is in the WWE folder.

Mad Dog - January 17, 2005 03:43 PM (GMT)
It sounds like a good show but I can't even begin to describe my utter disappointment that Monty Brown didn't win the NWA Title.

I've given up on the TSM TNA folder. It's useless to even try having a discussion there as that folder has been trolled to death.

Scrooge McSuck - January 17, 2005 04:21 PM (GMT)
It went from Dave O'Neill (no offense, here you haven't been bad at all), to that annoying guy who always called me Bill, to now with a bunch of people convinced TNA is great, despite churning out the same shit every damn week.

The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2005 05:28 PM (GMT)
Wow, the PPV actually turned out Decently? I may have to check out a replay...

(And let's not turn this into another Bitch about TSM thread, please...)

Thank you.

And about the PPV: Been scanning different boards this morning, and the response seems to be very, very negative. Most say the matches were fine, but TNA may have underestimated the fanbase's hatred for JJ. And not good hatred. Hatred like I won't watch your product kind of hatred. I wasn't for Monty winning the strap, and they haven't really built any other strong contender, but ending that PPV with JJ still champ may have screwed TNA worse than they know.

Scrooge McSuck - January 17, 2005 05:42 PM (GMT)
If people are allowed to bitch about TNA's message board (the horror!), I don't see the problem about anywhere else, as long as names aren't really mentioned (which I didn't, except for D.A.V.E.)

The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
Where were people bitching about TNA's message board? And All I'm saying is that we should keep the discussion on topic, and the topic at hand is the PPV... It's not a huge deal.

We're starting to sound like jilted girlfriends, and it's annoying in every thread.

Mad Dog - January 17, 2005 05:54 PM (GMT)
Actually I don't think there's any good place to discuss TNA on the internet. It's impossible to find a middle of the road place to discuss it.

Scrooge McSuck - January 17, 2005 05:55 PM (GMT)
Let's compromise. Everyone stops mentioning (blank) if you stop verbally blowing Steve Corino. :-D

(waits for an ass beating)

The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2005 06:05 PM (GMT)
Let's just make THIS the place where people can discuss TNA... Hows that? And that means not bringing up TSM, because really, what good does it do? None. So just stop bringing it up, at least here. Okay?

And it seems to me that people here are about 50/50 on Corino... So you're point is null, douche. ::ModHolddown::

Scrooge McSuck - January 17, 2005 06:07 PM (GMT)
Shouldn't you be in school junior? ZING! (realizes thats the worst comeback ever)

The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2005 06:08 PM (GMT)
MLK Day, or something. All I know is that we all have the day off.

Mad Dog - January 17, 2005 06:11 PM (GMT)
What bugs me the most is the RoH mutants have made it nearly impossible to have troll free TNA discussion anywhere I've been to talk about it.

The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2005 06:13 PM (GMT)
Well, I think me and DK are the only Mutant's here, so it won't be too bad... So quit yer bitchin!

Scrooge McSuck - January 17, 2005 06:13 PM (GMT)
ROH vs. TNA: The War Of Fanboys That Will Never End. I say fanboys because it's basically ROH fanboys vs. TNA fanboys, with the sensible people just laughing.

The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2005 06:14 PM (GMT)
Er... The PPV? Anyone planning on ordering the replay to check it out for themself?

Mad Dog - January 17, 2005 06:15 PM (GMT)
You and Dynamite are not RoH mutants. RoH mutants are guys who are like Michrome who can't bed over fast enough to kiss RoH's ass over everything they do. You could put the title on some homeless guy behind the building and these types would think it's brillant.

Basically think of ECW mutants who are as elitist as a lot of puro fans are.

The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2005 06:18 PM (GMT)
This is never gonna get back ontopic, is it? I'm a horrible mod.

Mad Dog - January 17, 2005 06:20 PM (GMT)
Eh, all of the WWF topics veer off topic. I don't really see the point of closing a thread just because discussion evolves a certain way.

Did you create a dumbass gimmick account and get banned and unable to log in with your real account?

Well, no. I didn't.

I probably won't order the replay...OK, I can't. My cable system doesn't offer them.

But, I'll probably DL a few matches (guess which ones) for my personal enjoyment.

Doesn't sound like a bad show to me, but nothing I'd really put myself out for.

Scrooge McSuck - January 17, 2005 06:28 PM (GMT)
OK, let's try and get this bitch back on topic.

Jarrett sucks, Brown should've won the title! This had the same logic of WWF's WM 2000 finish. Rocky should've won, but they HAD to postpone it a month?

Brown is over. He sucks as a wrestler, but over. Jarretts reign has been WAY too long (8 months?) and he's just flat out boring.

The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2005 06:33 PM (GMT)
Well I think they see it in two possible ways. Either A: They see JJ as their most relyable person to put (and leave) the belt on, or B: It's an ego thing. Either way, it's still a bad idea.

Mad Dog - January 17, 2005 06:36 PM (GMT)
So if Brown wins the title does that mean TNA will have had more black world champions in 3 years than the WWF has during it's entire existence?

Scrooge McSuck - January 17, 2005 06:37 PM (GMT)
Ron Killings and Monty Brown... yup. The Rock is the only one for WWE IIRC, and even that's pushing it. (he seems to be mixed race).

whitemilesdavis - January 17, 2005 06:42 PM (GMT)
1/2 black, 1/2 Samoan.

So does everyone here think Monty was the right guy to put it on?

The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2005 06:45 PM (GMT)
He's over, can pull off decent matches in the right situation, and has show dedication to improving, so I'd say he's a good choice. Not the best, but far from the worst.

Mad Dog - January 17, 2005 06:45 PM (GMT)
Yes, I have no doubt that he should be given the title. He has all the buzz around him and new fans seem to take to him very well. I've talked to several people who started watching recently and he's the first thing they mention.

whitemilesdavis - January 17, 2005 06:53 PM (GMT)
OK then. I would suggest that if Monty is the guy for the title, then this was the right move for this time. Delay the inevitable. Make people want it. Brown had no real feud leading into this match, so all his win would have meant is that Jarrett was no longer champ. Since Jarrett's been champ for so long, and Monty is the3 saviour of TNA. They both deserve better. Have them feud until the next PPV. Give Monty the belt at the next PPV, after the build, and it will be even better.

The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2005 06:55 PM (GMT)
The question is WILL there be another PPV, and if there is, will there be enough intrest?

Scrooge McSuck - January 17, 2005 07:01 PM (GMT)
Don't forget Brown is very good for a representative for TV interviews. Sports shows will have him on just for the fact he played Football.

dynamite kido - January 17, 2005 07:09 PM (GMT)
Well, if it's any consulation for anyone here, Jarrett had to use a shit load of guitar shots and it did take him a low blow and 3 strokes to finally pin Monty. So they definately kept him strong. Unfortunately they seemed to have been building to a Nash/Jarrett match with those two kinda going at it and bickering backstage. GOD I HOPE WE DON'T SEE THAT.......

The Last Free Voice - January 17, 2005 07:11 PM (GMT)
Hmm... I call a threeway with a Fingerpoke of Doom type thing... Or soemthing along those lines.

Well, that officially would be the worst thing they could ever do. So hopefully, they won't.......

whitemilesdavis - January 17, 2005 08:45 PM (GMT)
I think they already have PPV's scheduled for Feb. and March, so there should be at least 2 more.

I'm an optomist, but Nash Jarrett could kill the company.

Scrooge McSuck - January 17, 2005 08:54 PM (GMT)
The earliest TNA will fold I heard was March, so they have 2 more PPV's. However, thats if Panda Energy decides to pull out. I'm sure TNA can survive a few more weeks afterwards, and I think TNA is in good shape with Panda Energy right now
