INTERNATIONAL TALENTS ADDED TO WRESTLING SOCIETY X TAPINGS NEXT MONTH & MORE WSX NEWS
by Mike Johnson @ 11:40:00 AM on 10/25/2006

PWInsider.com can confirm that Dragon's Gate stars Masato Yoshino and Genki Horiguchi, British star Steven Lyndon (Pac), and CZW star Ruckus are all booked for the Wrestling Society X debut TV tapings. Also scheduled for the tapings are Vampiro, Sean Waltman, Jack Evans, Matt Sydal, Lizzy Valentine, Teddy Hart, The Human Tornado

The WSX tapings will be filmed in a new location, a soundstage in Hollywood, as opposed to the converted warehouse that was used for the pilot several months back. The tapings will take place from 11/11-11/16.

There are still some free tickets available, said to be less than 100 per taping session. The debut taping and the final episode taping are said to be the quickest moving. For ticket information, visit www.IwantmyWSX.com.

WTF?

I guess they scrapped the first show they taped already?

Mad Dog - October 26, 2006 10:37 PM (GMT)
So I wonder how much they'll butcher the matches? I'm thinking 30 second clip jobs of matches to air between the music or something.

Yes, I will be watching this because it'll be worse than late day AWA.

It may be the worst excuse for wrestling we've ever had the mispleasure of viewing.

Big F'N Swigg - January 11, 2007 03:22 PM (GMT)
They have a website up now, with a "cast listing" and a preview video.

Honestly, it doesn't look too bad. Ok, it looks like a japanese wrestling game show. But I'll watch that instead of a Lashley-Test match on ECW.

Edit: According to their "cast listing," I live about fifteen minutes from Chris Hamrick

whitemilesdavis - January 11, 2007 03:46 PM (GMT)
You don't, I do. He may have a different address listing for some reason, but he lives in Mooresboro, NC.

Big F'N Swigg - January 11, 2007 03:53 PM (GMT)
Maybe it's where he was born, then

whitemilesdavis - January 11, 2007 04:34 PM (GMT)
He was born in my home town, Shelby, NC. There is a possbilty that he has a residence outside of NC, since he's travelling all the time anyway. Didn't WSX already cut him loose?

whitemilesdavis - January 11, 2007 04:37 PM (GMT)
OK, Colt Cabana as the masked Matt Classic could be the coolest thing ever.

whitemilesdavis - January 11, 2007 04:44 PM (GMT)
OK,

1. The trailer looks exactly like the first commercials for TNA's Wednesday PPV's.

2. A little to XPW'ish for my tastes.

3. 80% of the roster are doing some type of comedy gimmick. I'm really interested to see how this is handled.

eStragand - January 11, 2007 05:22 PM (GMT)
I'm not giving this a seal of approval or anything, but I think more comedy gimmicks are needed.

Not trying to sound like a curmudgeon, but I've been talking to some (real-world) buddies about wrestling lately. We all agree that most guys today are too intent on being "cool" or "bad asses". Cena, Edge, Angle, Christian, Batista, etc. Guys like Hogan or Michael Hayes would try to be "cool".. but they did it with a little wink, like they knew they were a human cartoon. Modern wrestlers take themselves too seriously.

So it's more appealing to me to see someone try to do stupid crap, instead of trying to be "hip and cool".

Big F'N Swigg - January 11, 2007 10:38 PM (GMT)
The first thing I saw was all the tongue in cheek comedy. Such as D.I.F.H.'s bio snippet. Honestly, I think it's what will actually get this over with the marks. I completely agree with Stragand that there needs to be some "wink wink, nudge nudge" in wrestling today

Big F'N Swigg - January 11, 2007 10:49 PM (GMT)
I just got "Matt Classic"

Don't feel bad..it took me over a year to get "Justin Credible". Honestly.

Dammit, I just did too.

jamiegeist - January 12, 2007 05:08 AM (GMT)
Wait.

What?

whitemilesdavis - January 12, 2007 01:15 PM (GMT)
I hope you all read his bio. That's gonna be good stuff.

Real F'n Show - January 26, 2007 01:05 AM (GMT)

dynamite kido - January 26, 2007 01:29 AM (GMT)
Well as much as I'm NOT looking forward to this I now have a new favorite wrestler.

MATT MOTHERFUCKIN CLASSIC.

(who is Colt Cabana from what I've heard)

Real F'n Show - January 26, 2007 01:34 AM (GMT)
How can you not be looking forward to this? Sure it looks like a car-crash with some shitty guys, but the gimmicks alone have me sold. They've established more personality for the wrestlers in these 30 second clips alone than TNA has done throughout the entire exisistence of the X-Division...

jamiegeist - January 26, 2007 01:50 AM (GMT)
Yeah, Amen to that. These little "video cards" were awesome, and they obviously have some direction as far as characters.

I frankly can't wait to see this shit.

The Last Free Voice - January 26, 2007 03:34 AM (GMT)
When does this start?

Big F'N Swigg - January 26, 2007 03:36 AM (GMT)
Tomorrow night at 11

Real F'n Show - January 26, 2007 04:30 AM (GMT)
Huh? I thought it was Tuesday at 10:30 Eastern?

jamiegeist - January 26, 2007 04:36 AM (GMT)
Tomorrow is some kind of preview. Likely just a preview of the Tuesday debut, as MTV has been doing that with all their shows lately. Someone must've pulled the plug on all of their shitty "dating" shows and forced to fill with some (more) previews and reruns.

"Hi, I'm Sam from Long Island, and me love you Loooong time. Pick me!"

eStragand - January 26, 2007 06:39 AM (GMT)
So if all the wrestlers' identities are established, does this mean they won't have those WWE-ish inset promos of "My name is ____ and I'm here to teach these punks a lesson"?

One good thing about this: since their only exposure is on MTV, with no PPV build, you should get complete feuds and everything by watching one weekly show. If things work out, I'm sure they'd go to PPV, but initially everything should be contained on the show.

whitemilesdavis - January 26, 2007 01:26 PM (GMT)
1. How can you not love the Matt Classic promo? I will watch the show just for him, if nothing else.

2. I want to see them go on the challenges with the real world kids. That could be the best TV ever.

whitemilesdavis - January 26, 2007 02:19 PM (GMT)
OK, I've watched all the promos now, and I've gotta say to this point MTV is getting this thing right. MTV of all people. Some of these are genuinely funny. Not in a WWE way, just genuinely humorous. However, they are still able to present the talent in a good light.

Still, I have no hope for the TV show, but to this point, major props to MTV.

The Last Free Voice - January 27, 2007 04:39 AM (GMT)
Damnit, I missed what was apparently the only decent match on the show. I came in just as Evans was getting his hand raised.

And that "rumble" was a complete and utter Train Wreck, much like this "promotion" used to be. It'll be the best kind of trainwreck, though, the kind that's fun to watch. CRAZY HIGHSPOTS GALOREEEE!

Mad Dog - January 28, 2007 03:17 PM (GMT)
I just finished watching the pilot and here are my thoughts:

Pros:

They focused on the wrestling and played it very straight faced. Not what I was expecting at all. They treated it more like a wrestling promotion than the WWE has in a decade.
I liked how they brought up a little info card for the wrestlers when they came out.
I could deal with a promotion built around Vampiro.

Cons:

The announcing was beyond completely awful.
None of the matches were anywhere close to acceptable even for tv. Sydal/Evans is getting a little hype but it was little more than a bunch of spots thrown together with no storyline what so ever. Typical east coast indy garbage.
The main event scene as is is completely unacceptable. New Jack, Justin Credible and Sean Waltman all need to go.

dynamite kido - January 28, 2007 08:29 PM (GMT)
I'm actually pretty excited to see this on Tuesday.

The Last Free Voice - January 29, 2007 06:48 PM (GMT)
Strangley enough, I am too. I've been itching for some random highspottery since I stopped watching ROH...

Real F'n Show - January 31, 2007 02:31 AM (GMT)
Just a reminder this starts tonight at 10:30 ET.

Scrooge McSuck - January 31, 2007 02:32 AM (GMT)
Oh man, ECW or MTV Trainwreck... (remembers Test/Lashley III is the "Main Event" of ECW)

MTV Trainwreck it is.

Real F'n Show - January 31, 2007 02:45 AM (GMT)
Wow, I forgot this was running against ECW. Test and Lashley will have to deliver tonight~!

The Last Free Voice - January 31, 2007 04:49 AM (GMT)
So, I tuned in to catch the Evans/Sydal match I missed on the "preview" and HOLY SHIT. Did Evans really pull of a Space Flying Tiger... er... Phoenix Drop? That was crazy.

I remember why I love me some highspottery. I'll check out WSX just to see Evans, Hart and Co. nearly kill themselves each week.

Scrooge McSuck - January 31, 2007 04:50 AM (GMT)
You have no taste.

jamiegeist - January 31, 2007 07:22 AM (GMT)
You have no................

MAHBLES!

Scrooge McSuck - January 31, 2007 07:24 AM (GMT)
Marbles?! I have plenty of marbles. Blue ones, green ones, rainbow ones...

Yes, I know it's a reference to Major League 2. :P

Mad Dog - January 31, 2007 12:17 PM (GMT)
Watched it again. It still sucked.
