Title: Where I've been
Description: Where I'll be.

whitemilesdavis - September 22, 2006 02:40 PM (GMT)
So, this is why I haven't been posting lately.

1.) Work has gotten hectic. No big deal, just less time to post while I'm at work, like right now.

2.) The band I've been whoring myself out to since last October released their CD nationally last Tuesday. Since then, things have gone crazy. Basically, I get off work and go directly to rehearsal or a show. All my gear stays in my car. A few things about this are really cool. A.) The money is GREAT. B.) I've never been in a nationally signed band before, and the shows are exciting and people at the shows treat me like a star. A couple of things really suck: A.) I don't love the music. B.)It's becoming hard to be a dad and a husband. C.) I have no time for anything else. No watching wrestling, no posting on message boards, it's basically just going from one job to another. Last night I got in a 2 am and had to leave for work at 6:30am. That was actually better than normal.

Anyhow, I know I'm gonna have this schedule at least through December, so I'm gonna be scarce around here. I'll try to drop in for a few minutes at a time and post if at all possible, but it won't be much. If you need to "de-mod" me, I understand, and won't be offended.

At least I didn't get arrested for kiddy porn like Scrooge.

You were gone?!

Naw, seriously.. that's cool. Thanks for the update. It's refreshing and inspiring to know that some of us have a real LIFE.

Good luck with that man. Glad to hear you're experiencing so much success right now.

SamoaRowe - September 22, 2006 04:28 PM (GMT)
It's cool, glad to hear you've got that sort of success going.

Big F'N Swigg - September 22, 2006 04:55 PM (GMT)
What kind of music is it?

eStragand - September 22, 2006 05:54 PM (GMT)
Yeah...and while yer' at it, howzabout some info on the band. They have a website or even a cheesy MySpace page?

whitemilesdavis - September 23, 2006 07:53 PM (GMT)
Hey, got about 10 minutes before I head back out...

The music is Americana - basically a mix of rootsy rock, blues and *gulp* country. Like I said, not really my bag, but to be a pro you have to be open to anything. And they are good at what they do.

For some reason I worry about anonimoty on the internet, but for a few of you, it wouldn't be hard at all to figure out, so I'll put it out there: Name of the band is Mama Said. They've been around for a long time, finally signing a deal last September. The producer told them they had to get a new bass player. They heard me playing at a Katrina benefit and hired me on the spot. The most part of the year has been pretty uneventful with finishing up the disc, doing promotional crap, and *vomit* photoshoots, but the last few weeks have started the rollercoaster. They've got a web site and all, but they are not very tech savvy, so I'm sure it's out of date. You can check them out if you want.

the Myspace page
Here's the disc at amazon.

Real F'n Show - September 23, 2006 07:55 PM (GMT)
Tell me there's a side project called "Knock You Out"...

whitemilesdavis - September 23, 2006 07:59 PM (GMT)
If there isn't, there certainly should be. I think they were more influenced by the Lenny Kravitz song.

Hey maybe the much rumored side project with me, Swiggy, and LFV can be called Knock You Out?

Also, just checked and apprently they have updated the page. Even a couple of Ultra sexy shots of me on there.

Big F'N Swigg - September 23, 2006 08:46 PM (GMT)
As a lover of Americana, the music, I'll check it out. For some reason I feel like I've heard of the band before...

The Last Free Voice - September 23, 2006 09:04 PM (GMT)
That's totally awesome that you're signed Nationaly. I'll check ya'll out once I get the speakers on this PC working again...

Not that you guys care, but hey, I've got noone else to tell, and my 3 year old daughter doesn't understand yet.

So, I've had a little more downtime this week which I have enjoyed. Searching around the web for stuff about the band, and found this press release that I hadn't seen before.

At least you guys can know I'm not lying:

Americana Records artists MAMA SAID to release national debut album “Turn It Up.”

Friday September 1, 2006, 6:00 am ET
Denver, Colorado --(MARKET WIRE)—Sept.1, 2006 Americana Records today announced the much anticipated national debut album from the North Carolina group “Mama Said.” Although not new to the Southeast, Mama Said will be introduced throughout the country to a fan base which its record label believes shall be quite substantial over the next year. The album “Turn It Up” features singer songwriters Nancy Owen and Phil Ruff who have created a sound that is right in the pocket of the growing Americana format. A blend of rootsy, original songs carried by electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin, bass and harmonica...the group serves up a variety of musical hooks and textures with passion.

“We at Americana Records are proud to be the label which opens the doors for Mama Said,” stated label president Peter Trimarco. “They are as gifted a group as I have ever heard and know they will be embraced by several radio formats and many new audiences throughout North America.....we are truly lucky to have them as a part of our roster.”

Mama Said came on the scene while hosting a weekly TV show “Words & Music” produced by Gardner Webb University. Their popular program’s guests have included Jim Lauderdale, Christian Bush (of Sugarland), Roman Candle, David Wilcox, Chuck Brodsky, Chatham County Line, Malcolm Holcombe, Vienna Teng and Bill Mallonee.

Mama Said continues to perform throughout the Southeast and at one time was selected to showcase for the prestigious Nashville Songwriter’s Association International along with Keith Urban and three other finalists. Having opened for Acoustic Syndicate, Doc Watson, Marshall Tucker and The Waybacks, among others, Mama Said has set the stage for its own brand of very original and spirited music.

“Mama Said’s style is deeply rooted in the musical traditions of the south, but it interprets these traditions in a new and completely modern way.” - Jeff Powell, WGWG, Shelby, NC

“A band confident in a variety of musical settings and not adverse to having some fun while they’re at it.”
–Kim Clark, WNCW, Asheville, NC

The album is being delivered to stores nationwide in September in anticipation of radio airplay and touring throughout the fall of 2006 through next summer. “Mama Said; Turn It Up” will be available through most independent and national record stores including Barnes& Noble, Borders, Tower, Virgin, Record Town, FYE, Planet 9, and online through Amazon, among others.

Americana Records is based in Colorado with marketing offices in Nashville and Phoenix. For more information contact: info@americanarecords.com, or phone: 720-851-1375
