As in what exactly one would need to start a radio show in the net?

Wow, how did I miss this? Essentially you just need a mic, web space and subject matter. If you and a co-host aren't in the smae location some board meeting material like Skype will help you talk via computer. Though it'll be noticable on the podcast. Also make sure to get a good mic. Especially one that drowns out background noise. That makes a world of difference in sound quality.

Ah..found it! I was looking all over for this thread. I've been messing around with the idea of doing a podcast, either for my Crappy Site or for Da' Site, for awhile now.

I was farting around last night and converted some of my old audio tape recordings into MP3's (mostly old Cheech & Chong stuff and Accept's awful 1989 album, "Eat the Heat").

I used a basic one-plug audio cable to connect the "line out" jack on my old Walkman to the "line in" jack in the back of my computer (male connectors on both ends). The exact same cord that I used to connect my iPod to a car stereo; runs about 4 bucks at Best Buy. I used the free Audacity software to record everything to my computer. Much easier than I expected. Didn't have to detect any devices or install any drivers-- Audacity was able to record the audio without any adjustments. It recorded everything as a big ass audio file and I had the option to export to either MP3 or WAV. Audacity itself has some editing capabilities. I didn't explore all of them, as I mainly used it to cut out empty space. But you can speed stuff up or string sounds together.

I'm using a very crude set-up right now for recording a possible "radio" podcast: recording with audio tape on my old 1986 Sears home stereo, then playing that into the computer. I'll probably pick up a microphone soon and just record straight from the computer. Basically, I'm going to do a shitty "radio DJ" type of show, where I speak for about 3 minutes, then play some tunes.

But...I found an old audio tape project I did from 1996. I recorded a "soundtrack" album for the comic I used to draw/doodle. Sort of like the "Clerks" or "Beavis & Butthead" albums, I recorded little skits between the songs, in-character. Completely brainless stuff. I'm going to record these and post 'em, so we can all make fun of me trying to do cartoon voices.
