Title: Alex Shelley = Gone From RoH
Mad Dog - August 24, 2006 07:03 PM (GMT)
Yep that's more starpower gone from a company that's really starting to lack in that department. It sounds like he left because Gabe wouldn't push him any more than he already was.
The Last Free Voice - August 24, 2006 07:17 PM (GMT)
Well, if that's the case, I can understand both sides. Shelley deserves a push, but does Gabe really want a tonne of TNA Guys on top? I'd have pushed him, but that's just me.
Sucks that he's gone, I guess. A Shelley/Danielson feud would have been cool.
Mad Dog - August 24, 2006 07:22 PM (GMT)
I have a problem with it because it's further proof that Gabe has let all the net hype go to his head and it seems like he truely believes he's untouchable now. This is a company that's had a belt on Austin Aries for the better part of 2 years and they can't give Shelley a bigger push or his own DVD?
dynamite kido - August 24, 2006 07:59 PM (GMT)
I don't disagree with this at all.
Gabe is actually right on this one. Why push a guy to the top when he's not an ROH guy. He's a TNA guy (I don't blame Shelley here either) and this is just Gabe looking out for his company.
Mad Dog - August 24, 2006 08:04 PM (GMT)
There were other things Gabe did leading up to this that resulted in my rant. Shelley asked about possibly getting a Best Of DVD and was told he wasn't popular enough earlier this year.
dynamite kido - August 24, 2006 10:06 PM (GMT)
Honestly, Shelley SHOULDN'T get a best of DVD. He hasn't been instramental in ROH like the majority of guys that HAVE gotten them. I mean, I'm sure that the Shelley fanboys would eat it up, but otherwise it's just not the right time. The only time he was main event level of importance in ROH was when Gen Next first started up....
Mad Dog - August 24, 2006 10:21 PM (GMT)
I just think it's a mistake on Gabe's part to let a guy leave when his stock and starpower are taking a huge upswing. RoH just seems to be losing that super indy feel as they're roster seems to be pretty generic tese days. That's true of every east coast fed though.
dynamite kido - August 25, 2006 12:34 AM (GMT)
Oh, I know what you mean. It sucks that there's basically competition within the indy's, but I doubt Gabe would be doing this if TNA didn't pull guys from shows(which IS TNA's right to do) and ROH has to deal with the consequences. It's just Gabe trying to protect his company in the long run. ROH is basically at the point where their fanbase will eat up whatever they put out there, so he isn't really wrong in doing so. I agree that they won't grow more without the star power, but I think that they like being the cult deal that they are.

Yeah you summed up why I really gave up on them. The fans eat up whatever so the talent level has declined a bit and they've become content to really do nothing new anymore. Plus it's just too much money to follow on a consistent basis once they started doing almost weekly shows. I honestly don't know how anyone stays up on the shows anymore.

Easy. Bootlegging.

I read the results, see some stuff online, and catch up on the shows when they're more affordable. Somehow, it's exciting to me to be up on a Saturday night waiting to hear the results to a Danielson/Cabana match.

I see both sides. Shelley is making a great name for himself, but not as much in ROH as he used to.
I think nobody wins in this, really
