Title: Why Remote Images are a bad thing..
Description: Read n' learn about posting images!

I'm only posting this here because we're a relatively small audience. This is a reason why you should NEVER reference a remote image in your signature, MySpace comments or forum posts:

user posted image

In this case, some fantasy football guy was referencing a direct link to an image on my site of Ed McCaffrey. Everytime ANYBODY viewed his profile on ESPN's fantasy site, it was sucking up MY bandwidth. On a popular site like ESPN, that can add up and shut down my website.

So, rather than simply remove the image, I fucked with the guy. Instead of a wonderful picture of his hero and fellatio dream Ed McCaffrey, he now has a picture that simply sez: "Douchebag!".

Never include a direct image link to a remote site. Copy the image and use a Photobucket account, or something similar. You never know when the person admin'ing that remote site will get pissed that you're leeching his bandwidth.

This reminds me of the time Paul London's webmaster got pissed off at someone from TSM for using their bandwidth. She should've been smart enough to do what you did

I remember something about that. Didn't she get all pissy and post something that got her totally flamed to death?

And thanks for the pointers ES. I don't post pictures often, but I'll make sure to use a photobucket in the future.

MySpace seems to be the biggest place for this offense. Everyday I get error messages to my site because some dildo posted the image of Vince McMahon at the Slammys on a MySpace page.

Awhile back, some dweeb at "The Smart Marks' forum had the Vince picture in his signature. So everytime he posted, it was pulling the image from my site. I changed the file name to a new JPG that said "My Signature Sucks". The guy couldn't figure it out and tried to raise hell with the forum's admin, saying stuff like "okay, who's the asshole who changed my Vince picture".

I have a warning on my picture index, telling people to not do this. So I feel no guilt when I eventually embarass or piss them off.
