Title: Goldberg Signs A Holding Deal

QUOTE
Bill Goldberg has signed a 90-day holding-deal with Spike TV and is meeting with Spike executives next week, the former WCW-WWE World Champion confirmed in an email to members of his official fan club, known as Team Goldberg (www.billgoldberg.com).
"The holding-deal definitely means that I now will talk with TNA Wrestling, but nothing further than that," he wrote.
Goldberg also confirmed that he was going to wrestle August 20 for Gladiator Championship Wrestling, but the appearance conflicted with his Spike holding-deal.

Wow. I thought I'd never say this, bit I think I would want Jarrett to hold onto his title. If Goldberg won the title, that means he would have held the NWA, WCW, and WWE title. ...May be this means Goldberg is the wrestling equivalent of Ric Flair. Wink

OK, I just made myself get sick a little in my mouth.

Uhhh......not really.

I think Goldberg would be huge for them. Smarks may hate him but I know lots of people who would tune in to just see the guy. I don't think he'd fix their problems over night but I think he could push the ratings to a 1.2 or a 1.3. He's another piece of that puzzle for them to get attention and bring some of the late 90s fans back into the fold.

They would be smart to bring him in. Like him or not, he's a major score for TNA if they can get him. I also like how this seems that Spike is doing this to help TNA flip the bill (no pun intended).

I would tune in to see him. He will probably never put on a ***** match, but his run in WCW was more than entertaining. He, like Scott Steiner, was tarnished by his WWE run, but I have complete confidence that he could bring the magic back again. If TNA can make this happen, this could be the biggest move in the history of the company.

I think they should do what it takes to get Goldberg and then send Christian to start wooing Jericho in. And then on top of that you get Sting in contact with the Rock and try to get him hyped over a dream match. If they could get one of those that would be great, if they got 2 it would be a huge deal.

I went to an IWC show a couple weeks back and they did a Q&A with Xian that was pretty cool. Someone asked him about Jericho and he said that he doesn't talk to him too much anymore because they are both so busy. He also said that he thinks Jericho is pretty much done as well but TNA would love to have him.

Sting's arrival in TNA rolled some eyes, but I say it's been handled well. A Goldberg deal would work the same. TNA's done well with Steiner, Nash and Sting...so they do pretty well with the oldsters.

But here's a tip for ol' Billy: if you do return to the ring, please use your plain black trowsers. Those black and white outlined thingies you wore in WWE made it look like you were running around in a pair of Fruit of the Loom Boxer Briefs.

Screw that noise. His match with DDP at Halloween Havoc 98 was a thing of beauty and has a legt claim of being the U.S. MOTY.

I'm going to have to disagree with that completely.

It was at least WCW MOTY. That's the only match that's ever made me jump out of my seat. Today it might not have as much impact but at the time it was the only time someone had gone up against Goldberg and actually pushed him to his limits. Goldberg sold the arm amazing well for someone who gets shit on for no selling.

whitemilesdavis - August 14, 2006 08:22 PM (GMT)
Oh, I loved that match. I wouldn't call it a 5 star classic or anything, but who cares, it was great fun.

And yes, he has to wear the plain black jockies. Those other things made me uncomfortable in an odd way.

Mad Dog - August 14, 2006 08:23 PM (GMT)
I'm not saying it was 5 stars. But it was a MOTYC for 1998 IMO.

Real F'n Show - August 14, 2006 11:28 PM (GMT)
He had a really fun match with Steiner at some PPV at one point too. I remember downloading it and thinking that it was Goldberg's best match ever.

There was much better stuff in WCW that year, although not in the heavyweight division, there's other matches that shit all over it.

I'm not saying it's a bad match as I probably would call it Goldberg's best to date, but I'm not going as far to saying it's a MOYTC for 98.

whitemilesdavis - August 15, 2006 11:52 AM (GMT)
The Steiner / Goldberg match was a frigging awesome fight. Completely realistic and one of the first times that you bought into a challenger maybe hanging with Goldberg physically. Strangely enough, Goldberg and Sid also had a very fun fight, with sid bleeding a grotesque ammount.

TNA should also sign Matt Morgan. Cornette is said to be trying to bring him in. I think that would be a good pickup as well.

I mentioned that in a thread about that awhile back. It would be VERY smart of them. Especially because Cornette is already familiar with him and how he works and does promos.

I've been watching OVW and the crowd just goes insane everytime Matt Morgan is even so much as mentioned. He's not a great worker but I think they could push him big time as a baby face. Bring him in just in time to beat Monty Brown on the way out.
