Title: August
Description: What are you watching?

whitemilesdavis - August 2, 2006 11:41 AM (GMT)
Watched some of my new shipment from DK last night. Good, good stuff. Alot of the Steiners in Japan. Very fun.

Mad Dog - August 2, 2006 11:50 AM (GMT)
Watched Nick Dinsmore turn heel after beating Johnny Jeter for the OVW Title and then a huge brawl breaking out as Dinsmore and Luthor Reigns lay a nasty beatdown on Jeter until Matt Morgan makes the save. They move on as Nova and the Idol beat Mac Johnson and Seth Skyfire. Then the sides get into it again and they brawl back out to the ringside area. The announce table gets overturned and the lockerroom clears out to restrain them. It was quite fun.

Up next Nova and the Idol defend the Southern Tag Team Titles against Tank Toland and Chris Cage. There will probably be a Reigns/Dinsmore vs. Jeter/Morgan match coming up as well.

That Steiners in Japan DVD, is fun as shit. The Vader/Bam Bam vs. Steiners on there is excellent by the way. They all fucking kill each other.

I haven't got through much of it yet, but man I love some old-school Scott Steiner head-dropping action.

Wait until Scott breaks out the best move in the hsitory of the world. The Suplex into a owen hart tombstone piledriver on Liger then.

whitemilesdavis - August 2, 2006 01:33 PM (GMT)
I'm loving the top rope DDT. I'm surprised noone died from that move.

prof_plague - August 2, 2006 04:33 PM (GMT)
Some Wrestling-1 from 2003. I'm officially a Bob Sapp fan.

I also watched some WWWF MSG matches from a card in June '73 that had a George Steele/Padre Morales main event.

whitemilesdavis - August 3, 2006 04:13 PM (GMT)
Was pulling one of my insomniac gimmicks last night so I watched a lot of wrestling between the hours of 2 and 6am. Finished up all of Super J-Cup 94 and 95. 94 is as good as I've always heard, and 95 ain't half bad either. A few comments:

94-
The talent line-up on this show is literally unbelievable. I would be willing to bet that there has never been another assortment of talent on a show like that in history.

I was pleasantly surprised by the first round match up of Hayabusa and Liger. I didn't even realize Busa was in the thing, so to see a dream matchup like that right off the bat was really cool. It started off great with Busa attacking before the bell and doing a lot of flying. It got a little sloppy towards the end, but still enjoyable. Busa selling the KO finish was a cool touch.

95-
What in god's name was Damian doing? I have no clue what his gimmick was supposed to be, and I'm not sure he did either. Just bizarre.

Mad Dog - August 3, 2006 05:10 PM (GMT)
He was yelling out the name of a wrestling legend and then copying their signature spot.

whitemilesdavis - August 3, 2006 05:14 PM (GMT)
Really? OK, I obviously get Hogan, who else was he clowning?

Strangely enough, he wasn't clowning anyone. It's called channelling and it's considered entertainment by the Japanese fans.

I believe he busted out some Misawa during that as well......not a 100% sure though, I haven't watched it in sometime.

whitemilesdavis - August 3, 2006 05:22 PM (GMT)
Well, I found it entertaining...it was just odd. I couldn't understand what he was saying, I'll have to give it another watch now that I know that.

Mad Dog - August 3, 2006 06:37 PM (GMT)
Muta and Chosu were in there at some points. I think Onita was as well.

whitemilesdavis - August 3, 2006 08:09 PM (GMT)
Oh, Also wanted to point out how funny it was to see Jericho yelling his "Come on, Babaaayy" stuff at the crowd. Funny cause he was doing the same thing 10 years later. His little opening speech to the Japanese fans was lame too.

Mad Dog - August 3, 2006 08:45 PM (GMT)
They did an interesting angle on one of these OVW tapes that actually lead to Jim Cornette and Mark Magnus coming to blows. I have to say that Jim Cornette throws a better worked punch than any of the WWE workers.

Mad Dog - August 7, 2006 12:57 AM (GMT)
Watching my OVW tapes. I love the Bolen services stable. Bolen walks around with a nurse and a butler, it's great stuff. Plus Mike Mondo carries a sign that says "Godzilla Fears Mondo."

Real F'n Show - August 8, 2006 11:57 PM (GMT)
Beach Blast '92. I'll be damned if Steamboat/Rude isn't one of the most underrated matches ever.

Mad Dog - August 11, 2006 03:44 PM (GMT)
RoH Wrestling is having a 20% off sale so I just bought OVW TV February-October 2005 and January/April 2006. Saved about $40.

Real F'n Show - August 14, 2006 03:41 PM (GMT)
Watching the Sturgis crowd shit all over a great Benoit/Malenko match from Hog Wild '96. Ugh.

Tell me about it. Bikers = shitty wrestling fans.

Chalk up another bad decision by WCW.

Real F'n Show - August 15, 2006 03:22 AM (GMT)
Definately. The crowd seriously was ruining the match for me, to the point I had to lower the volume. With a decent/hot crowd we're talking ***3/4 - **** match here, and they didn't give a shit. Sad.

Mad Dog - August 18, 2006 06:19 PM (GMT)
I just got about 20 hours worth of Mid-South/UWF stuff.

SamoaRowe - August 18, 2006 08:12 PM (GMT)
I also took advantage of the 20% off sale that ROH was having. I ordered two tickets to the 11/3 show, Better Than Our Best, Crowning a Champion, and an EWR show.

Real F'n Show - August 18, 2006 11:30 PM (GMT)
An EWR show? What?

Mad Dog - August 18, 2006 11:31 PM (GMT)
I used the free shipping sale today to grab both volumes of the Cornette/Watts shoots.

Real F'n Show - August 18, 2006 11:33 PM (GMT)
I was fully expecting Rowe to pick up some SHIMMER given his love for WEW...

Mad Dog - August 18, 2006 11:55 PM (GMT)
EWR is Elite Wrestling Revolution. I don't know much about it.

SamoaRowe - August 23, 2006 05:54 PM (GMT)
I've been watching this Wrestle 1 show from January 2003. It was taped in a weird order, so I saw the last three matches on the card and then it restarted. By and far, it's a horrible show, with a wonderful -** Goldberg/Muta vs. Kronik match.

Oh, and I had no idea that Bob Sapp acted so fruity. He and his opponent, Ernesto Hoost (I think that was his name) seemed to be in a contest to see who could act more like a prison cell mate from Hell. Seriously, Bob Sapp dancing his way to the ring to bad 80's pop music is not how I imagined he would be utilized.

I'll have more thoughts when I finish watching it.

It's an indy company stationed in Quebec. Most of the shows feature a crop of local indy guys, usually with one or two bigger name guys stopping by (ie, Petey Williams and Christopher Daniels).

Oh, and it's Plague who has the fascination with WEW, I merely had a good old laugh at some of his dvds (which I got him for Christmas and his birthday, I'll admit). The highlight was the guy who went to leap off a mountain of tables, slipped and just fell flat on his back.

S.T. Strickler - August 23, 2006 10:11 PM (GMT)
Sunday, I watched Hogan/Warrior from WrestleMania VI (from the WM DVD Set), along with 'Taker/Snuka, Warrior/Savage, and Hogan/Slaughter from WM VII.. On Monday, I watched LoD/Nasty Boys from Summerslam '91 (Road Warriors DVD). And yesterday, I watched 'Taker/Roberts, a few minutes of Savage/Flair, and Hogan/Sid from WM VIII.

Colcollazo - August 24, 2006 04:08 AM (GMT)
Since on the TV guide it said the MSG channel is showing classic WWF shows from MSG, I decided to watch it.

Didn't really pay attention to the first show they had on which was from December 17, 1979. But I was excited for the February 23, 1987 show they had on next as it features Harts/Bees for the tag titles, Jake/Bundy and a big 6-man elimination tag match between Savage/Adonis/Race and Piper/Steamboat/JYD. This was supposed to be Piper's last MSG apperance too. Plus Monsoon and Heenan announce this one.

The Hart Foundation vs. The Killer Bees
This was more or less a good match, just not as good as the one on Bret's DVD. Small number of breaks hurts the flow of this one, but the Harts are just vicious as heels. Forgot how great they were as heels. THese two teams did have chemistry though.

Jake Roberts vs. King Kong Bundy
Not much action here of course, but the big man Bundy still finds a way to sweat buckets. Jake is really good seller. Jimmy Hart is a funny commentator btw as he fills in for Heenan who's by the ring with Bundy.

Randy Savage, Harley Race & Adrian Adonis vs. Roddy Piper, Ricky Steamboat & Junkyard Dog
I expected a fun match, and it definately delivered. Probably one of Piper's best performances as he goes for the whole match and brings the excitement for the whole way. For some reason Slick announces this one with Monsoon. A big brawl on the outside gets Adonis and JYD counted out. Race ends ups eliminating Steamboat with an inside cradle and leaves the Hot Rod with both Savage and Race. Accidental double axe handle off the top by Savage on Race takes out the King and it's down to Savage and Piper, and that's where it gets good. Hot crowd, fiery Piper, heel Savage, it all clicks. Favorite part of this for me happens once Savage spits in Piper's face and Piper looks like he's about to explode. Piper wins with inside cradle I believe. Good interview with him and Monsoon backstage afterwards too.

eStragand - August 24, 2006 08:46 PM (GMT)
I dig that 6-man elimination match! I have a copy of it in Incredibly Shitty Quality. Race breaks out his trademark "caught in the ropes teeter totter".

Good match and despite its clean finish, it still built up heat for WrestleMania 3. All 6 guys were feuding and nobody got a decision over his rival.

Slick was pretty bad on the call if I remember right. He had forced stuff like "I do not like that ref".

dynamite kido - August 24, 2006 10:04 PM (GMT)
Colcollazo, if they ever put 70's WWWF stuff on watch it. You may be VERY surprised.

eStragand - August 25, 2006 04:56 PM (GMT)
Watched SummerSlam '92 last night, as I had never seen it. I remember really wanting to see this when it came out.

It wasn't too bad. The only match that was "BY GAWD awful King", was Undertaker vs. Kamala. Virgil vs. Nailz was crap, but I've only seen one Nailz match, so there was a novelty factor for me.

I liked Crush vs. Repo Man. At the time, I remember alot of us thought Crush was the future main eventer or World Champion. He had a good look for that period and seemed to fit the WWF's babyface model. I think booking totally killed his career, as they really had nothing for him to do until he feuded with frickin' Doink. So there ya' go!

And golly..I never knew that Warrior wore a singlet. Airushed "muscles" that made him appear nekkid. Not a good choice.

Mad Dog - August 25, 2006 05:19 PM (GMT)
Heel Doink the Clown was awesome. He's still one of my favorite characters. Sucked as a face.

Mad Dog - August 26, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
I just finished watching the two Bill Watts Straight Shootin series. He really is a misunderstood person as he's been defined by the people that detract him.

You think that's freaky, you should've seen the Giant Gonzalez uniform.

eStragand - August 26, 2006 07:05 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but Giant Gonzalez at least had Hairy Things over his Little Gonzalez. Warrior's singlet at SummerSlam is bad.. but even worse is the flashback clips they show from a few weeks before. His singlet looks frickin' transparent, with only a little dark "Warrior Symbol" over his Little Warrior.

I'm a huge Warrior fan, but it was downright revolting.

Watched the Hokuto/Kandori bloodbath yesterday afternoon. God that match is fucking brutal.
