Title: Clerks II

So I saw it this weekend, and I must say I was surprised at how good it was. Like everything these days, I've heard mixed reviews. I went in with my hopes not too high, and I was fairly impressed with what I got. I can see why it got a standing ovation at Cannes. Though I can also see why Gene Shalit would walk out of it

Yeah, I watched it last night, and it was a great movie with tons of laughs. It got a little sappy at parts, but it worked, and was nice, in a "buddy" kind of way, instead of the traditional romantic storyline. I thought Randal was the shit, and Dante just bugs the hell out of me. I hate his delivery, and he comes off so fuckin gay.
Jay was just fuckin awesome, and ruled in everything he said. His Silence of the Lambs thing had me dying.
Oh, and the Porch Monkey bit was off the chain.

I have a friend who HATED the romantic angle in the film. Even though I kind of think it nice that it turned out the way it did, I do agree with him that it was WAY too obvious from the get go.
I loved all the cameos. Wanda Sykes is funny for the first time to me, Jason Lee is top notch as always, and surprisingly little Ben Affleck.
I was surprised that there wasn't much reference to any of his previous films. It's one of the things I've come to expect from Smith. But it was nice to see Dante and Randal in their 30's, as Clerks always left me wondering what would become of them

I got a kick out of it. It was funny, a couple of people in the audience walked out during it due to being offended. It makes me wonder how familiar they were with the original film. The final straw was Randall's "I let you smell my fingers after I fucked so or so's kid sister" line.
I thought it was great. I laughed quite a bit and I look forward to the dvd.

Yeah, I look forward to the DVD as well. And same for me Rowe, Wandy Sykes was funny for the first time EVER to me. And the other black guy with her:
"You can't taste racism Baby"

My thing with people walking out is that you should know going in that it's going to be a vulgar film. It's Kevin Smith. It's going to have a lot of "Fuck" and talk about sex

You can supposedly go to the Clerks website and download a DVD commentary styled track for your mp3 player and listen to it during the movie. I think that will be available later in the week.

My girlfriend and I were discussing that after the movie on our walk through the parking lot. I said "They clearly haven't seen the first one if they were offended by this." It cracks me up when people go to movies that they are not familiar with. Another example was back when There's Something About Mary was in theaters. I was staying at a lake house, and my friend's grandmother was talking about how she and a few friends went to the movies and saw that one (because the posters for everything else looked violent). She was like "We were pretty shocked throughout it, and afterwards noticed that the poster said it was rated R and we all said 'oooooooooh, that explains it.'"
People amuse me.
