Since I forgot my notes, and am NOT at my home computer, I'll just be quick. I'll recap Velo---I mean "ECW" every week until I'm bored, and will do a game of catch-up for the next few weeks.
- Show opens with a Paul Heyman in-ring promo, who brings out NEW "ECW" Champion, Rob Van Dam, and awards him a new belt, since he had to job the shitty spinner belt back to Raw. Edge and Lita come out, lay out RVD, then Cena runs out to lay out Edge, then Heyman. CHAOS!
1. The Sandman def. The Zombie, a.k.a the Warrior after being buried in the desert by Jake Roberts leading up to SummerSlam '91. 16 second match featuring 2 things: cane shots and the russian leg sweep, ending it at 16 seconds. The Zombie DID look like a good immitation of Warrior, though. (DUD)
2. Tazz def. Jerry Lawler - Pulled from ECW One Night Stand. Lawler punks out Joey Styles before the match, who retaliates with a choke hold. Lawler tries a piledriver, but Tazz chokes him out for the KO at 36 seconds. (1/4*, for squashing Lawler so quickly)
3. Kurt Angle def. Justin Credible - Total squash match for Angle, using a bunch of suplexes, takedowns, and some resting. Credible tries punking Angle out, so Angle retaliates with a stiff headbutt and another choke out, resulting in Credible tapping like the jock-strap on the head wearing bitch he is at 1:47. Angle cuts a promo afterwards. (*, for the complete squash of the loser)
4. Extreme Battle Royale
(Participants: Sabu, Tommy Dreamer, Big Show, Danny Doring, Roadkill, Little Guido, Tony Mamaluke, Big Guido (all 3 w/ Trinity), Al Snow, Balls Mahoney, Stevie Richards)
Fun garbage match, with lots of plundering action. After everyone beats on Show for a while, he quickly dumps pretty much everyone in the ring, in order: Al Snow (after tyrying to get head), Danny Doring, Roadkill, Stevie Richards, Balls Mahoney, Tommy Dreamer (dumping him through a table set up earlier outside of the ring), Mamluke, Little Guido, and Big Guido. After eliminating B.G., B.G. holds onto Show long enough to allow Sabu to spring off a chair with a shot to the back, knocking him out, and giving Sabu the win at 5:45, and the "right" to face John Cena at Vengeance. Big Show makes angry faces as the show ends. (**, for fun nonsense)
Other Notables: Kelly's Expose is yet another sad attempt of Vince McMahon's to push sex, when we can see the real deal on any channel these days.
The Vampire Formerly Known as Mordecai hanging around outside the arena, looking pretty damn cool.
I think that was all... the show was pretty rushed for time with the opening promo eating up 10 minutes.
Final Thoughts: Fun show, and thankfully a lot of TRUE ECW Wrestlers were present for it. However, it goes downhill from here, so from now on, courage. (Thumbs Up show, mainly by default. Even TNA couldn't screw this show up the 1st week).
I only watched the first episode of new ECW, and that was plenty. I'm surprised you gave that a thumbs up. I guess being incarcerated, you take what you can get.
I say unto you: "Warrior"? Seek not to compare the physical resemblance of he who was temporarily proclaimed as the Zombie to that of the granite-like features and restrained-less charisma of the Warrior. If you seek to issue and dictate such proclamations of opinioned appearance, one would do well to relate those statements to a likeness of Terry Gordy.
I was being a bit generous. The next... 7 weeks are a tail spin into the firey underworld.
I can't believe you gave this show a favorable review. You softened in your old age and time away from internet land.
But the Zombie bit was classic. I still have that part on tape and I refuse to tape over it.
My OLD AGE?! You're a year older than me! In my day, our olders treated youngin's like gold, because 1 day they knew we'd stick them in the cheapest home possible.
