Sucks....very much.
I want my money back.

I didn't think it was that bad. I mean, it wasn't that great, but I didn't want my money back.
I did think it did a bad job with Captain Jack's character. Made him a true douche.

I found Depp to be the only entertaining thing in that movie. There was NO ending, which pissed me off. I realize its just a build to a sequel, but each movie has to stand on it's own, and this one does not.

Yeah, the lack of an ending made the whole movie feel like a ripoff to me, but I still liked it well enough.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0383574/So, finally, me and Shelley got some time to ourselves and we went to see it. I wasn't really looking forward to it - I hated the first film - because I felt everyone was playing to a stereotype - except Depp - who overacted to the point where he was unbearable. And it was pretty formulaic.
This though, blew it out of the water. They even made Orlando look heroic. And Knightley's hot. And Jack Davenport got more to do - and he acted everyone else off the screen. Depp toned it down just a little, and it worked - almost as if he was getting older being exposed to this motley lot. And the Pintel-Ragetti stuff was awesome - and I think Mackenzie Crook is great. Great twist at the end (no-one in the cinema call the heel turn coming - or indeed the cameo at the end) sets up a sequel (with CHOW YUN FAT!) that I'm looking forward to. A lot.

I'm only looking forward to the sequel so that I can finally see the end to this frigging movie.

Haven't seen it, nor do I have any plans to see it. BUT...I got an inflatable Pirates sword in my Happy Meal today. I am SO using that as my Pittsburgh Pirates "rally monkey" thing from now on.

I thought it was great... and I've seen it twice. I just thought it was a great adventure movie, with anothing inspired performance by Depp, only the supporting cast was made more interesting in this film.

Shit..ended up seeing it, tonight. I really don't recall too much from the first movie, so I wasn't up on the ship's curse and each character's connection to one another. I guess that I now know how my folks felt when they took me to see "Empire Strikes Back" about 25 years ago.
Really, realllllly seemed to drag on. I thought the 3-way dance on the beach was the movie's climax. Nope. Then I thought the 3-way on the water wheel with the big jungle chase was the climax. Nope. I thought the Kraken fight would be the climax. Nope. I thought the Kraken's SECOND attack would be the climax. Nope. I thought Jack facing the Kraken was the climax. Nope.
Dammit, movie!! My bladder hates you!
Fuck, it's geeting downright dangerous for me to go out to movies anymore. Miami Fucking Vice was 2.5 hours long. I call this the Peter jackson influence.... douchebag! Do you see what you've done?!!!
...so what happened to the dog?
whitemilesdavis - August 8, 2006 11:54 AM (GMT)
I think after a couple of weeks of a small mid-card push, he went back to being Al Green.
Big F'N Swigg - August 8, 2006 01:30 PM (GMT)
Actually, E, Miami Vice's length was characteristic of the director. Michael Mann's directed HEAT, Ali, Collateral and now Miami Vice. I don't think one of those went under two hours

Or to be more accurate...the Dog was dropped off on the side of a road by Brian Knobbs and Fit Finlay on an episode of Thunder, then never seen again. Nor was Al Green. Although Kevin Nash gave him -- as they say on the streets-- a "shout out" on the Bischoff/Russo reset episode of Nitro. (sad that I know those details).
So I guess the cannibals ate the dog instead of the pirate crew?

I don't care who the director is/was..... there's no excuse to make "Miami Vice" into a frickin' 2.5 hour suckfest. With not ONE single airboat in the movie!
Something like "Ali" or "Heat" has enough material to last 2.5 hours. Miami Vice doesn't. "Whoa..I am an ARTIST and shall treat any subject with the respect and blow-jobs that it deserves". C'mon...trim the fat, chester! Your "art" can live on the DVD.
