Title: Looking For A New Fed

Mad Dog - July 10, 2006 11:57 PM (GMT)
So with RoH basically being dead to me I need a new indy to call home. I'm looking for something not too smarky and prefer the southern style. The CWF seems good to me but do they have easy access to DVDs or VHS?

So anyways. Just recommend feds and link me to websites so I can take a look.

NWA-VA

I'm just planning on getting into it myself after the DVDVR guys have hyped me up on it with various Road Reports. Sounds like good ol' fashioned stiff wrestling.

Mad Dog - July 11, 2006 12:06 AM (GMT)
Nice, the CWF has a couple of on demand shows on High Spots for free. I'll check out those feds too.

whitemilesdavis - July 11, 2006 01:50 PM (GMT)
CWF is a little hit or miss, but generally well worth the watch. A few guys like Converse, Joey Silvia, and Brad Attitude are pretty much can't miss.

NWA-VA is also very good but top heavy, if you know what I mean. Damien Wayne and Sean Denny are about as good of indy workers as there are anywhere in the country.

Mad Dog - July 11, 2006 01:55 PM (GMT)
I downloaded the 4 free CWF Mid-Atlantic shows. So I'll try to watch those over the next few days.

whitemilesdavis - July 11, 2006 04:10 PM (GMT)
I kind of gave up on their TV a while back. Being 30 minutes long, it gets really rushed. It might be a good intro to the fed, though. I checked out Highspots, and it looks like a few good matches on those shows. If you have any questions about angles or characters, I can probably help.

Mad Dog - July 11, 2006 04:43 PM (GMT)
I haven't felt too lost yet. The announcers do a pretty good job of telling you who the guys are. I'll probably have questions about the skill levels of guys and such as I watch stuff.

whitemilesdavis - July 11, 2006 04:48 PM (GMT)
The younger, wilder announcer is our very own Statmark.

Are you starting with the 5-6 episode?

Mad Dog - July 11, 2006 04:53 PM (GMT)
Yeah I watched the King/Wilkins match a little bit ago. A little slow but King's offense made a lot more sense to me when I saw he used a cross face chicken wing as a finisher. Wilkins was also pretty impressive if he's still under a year of ringtime.

whitemilesdavis - July 11, 2006 04:58 PM (GMT)
Both guys are very new wrestlers. I have been very impressed with Marcellus King, both in his ring work and promo ability/ charisma. Wilkins seems a little less polished right now, but certainly has potential.

Mad Dog - July 11, 2006 04:59 PM (GMT)
I do like the feel of the place. It's similar to the studio feel you get from old wrestling shows and the crowd isn't smarky at all. And I like that they seem to be content to do their own thing without jabbing at some other fed.

whitemilesdavis - July 11, 2006 05:05 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Carolina Sports Arena is a cool little place to see a show. The Converse / Dynasty feud started selling out every week, so they have now added additional seating. Lately, the crowd has been on fire, but they have acted dead before too.

That tag match from the 5-06 episode should be pretty fun. Silvia is great while Steeve Greene and Jesse Ortega are both very good in their own right. Brass Munkey is a servicable ring hand too, so it should make for a nice little match.

Mad Dog - July 11, 2006 08:09 PM (GMT)
I do like that they aren't afraid to have a match go 20 minutes on a 30 minute show. I tried getting into Jersey All Pro Wrestling through their tv show earlier in the year and it was a real nightmare as it was all 2-3 minute matches.

whitemilesdavis - July 11, 2006 08:13 PM (GMT)
Yeah, they basically do 1 match per show. It's normally a good match, but I found it difficult to follow angles that way.

Mad Dog - July 11, 2006 08:16 PM (GMT)
Are there any plans for them to do widespread DVD releases of shows? They're pretty thin on what's available.

whitemilesdavis - July 11, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
Yes. Highspots is supposed to be releasing all of their shows starting from mid-May. I know the first couple are up and ready to go, and just waiting on the artwork to come back from the printers. Apparently the 5-20 show is gonna be pretty incredible.

dynamite kido - July 11, 2006 10:57 PM (GMT)
By the way MD, if you were thinking of checking out some IWC there's definately a wealth of it on youtube.

Mad Dog - July 12, 2006 02:54 AM (GMT)
Cool, I'll wander around and check it out.

whitemilesdavis - July 12, 2006 12:17 PM (GMT)
I've checked out some IWC over the past few months, and really been amazed at the quality, considering how little play they get on the net. Production is good, crowds seem great, and they bring in top notch indy talent.

QUOTE (whitemilesdavis @ Jul 12 2006, 06:17 AM)
I've checked out some IWC over the past few months, and really been amazed at the quality, considering how little play they get on the net. Production is good, crowds seem great, and they bring in top notch indy talent.

Overall, they are horribly underrated as a Indy. In the last year alone besides their own guys, they've brought in Abyss, AJ, Daniels, Delirious, Alex Shelley, Ricky Reyes, Milato Collection AT, Kudo, Samoa Joe, Chris Sabin, Christian Cage will be there in August, Matt Hardy, Low Ki, etc etc.

Plus they have some really talented local guys like John McChesney( you may remember him a few weeks back on RAW as a Umaga squash guy), Glenn Spectre, Super Hentai, Jason Gory, and Shiima Xion.

Mad Dog - July 12, 2006 04:05 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I was looking at their roster and wondering why they don't get more play on the net. But really most indies get ignored except for RoH and PWG.

dynamite kido - July 12, 2006 04:20 PM (GMT)
That and IWC goes for a much more old school slow build approach to booking.

So basically indy fans would rather watch good matches for no reason than to actually build up to something that could have a GREAT payoff match.

Mad Dog - July 12, 2006 04:34 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it sounds like this board has really started to synch up as far as our frustrations with a lot of indy wrestling.

Mad Dog - July 13, 2006 09:15 PM (GMT)
I'm going to also be checking out some of the NWA Anarchy television that's on Youtube.

Mad Dog - July 16, 2006 09:21 PM (GMT)
NWA Anarchy is going to start posting the tv show online at the following link:

http://colepromedia.com/nwaanarchy.html

Only the first week is up but they'll be posting the new one every Friday.

Mad Dog - July 19, 2006 01:29 AM (GMT)
So right now it's between IWC and just buying tapes of Wildside's old tv show. CWF Mid-Atlantic is still on my radar but I'm going to wait and see what the DVD releases look like for the next couple of months. NWA Anarchy will remain a watch as long as I can get the television online.

I still have to look into NWA Virginia.

dynamite kido - July 19, 2006 01:49 AM (GMT)
If you are ever looking into IWC's full show's I have some on DVD. We can trade sometime or I can hook you up with a good price.

Mad Dog - July 24, 2006 03:36 PM (GMT)
So for right now I've decided that I'm going to work on clearing out the OVW tapes and DVDs left on Ring of Honor's website.
