Title: Comments that don't warrant a thread.
Description: I figured it was time we had one...

The early estimates for the WWE Judgment Day PPV is that the show managed to pull in around 230,000 buys. If this number is accurate, then it would beat Backlash's buy rate by 10,000. Wrestlemania 22 is still looking like the WWE's strongest show of the year so far in buy rates with 930,000.

Ouch, I'm surprised that the Backlash buyrate was so weak considering that it was a well promoted show. It's impressive that Judgment Day even did that well considering how it had virtually no buzz going into the event and everyone figured that it would have ended with JBL celebrating a second world title victory.

Prior to last week, Shawn Michaels had been relatively quiet with his dislike for the DeGeneration X angle.

Although he, as a born-again Christian, was hardly thrilled with the DX antics, he had yet to make a public complaint due to fear of coming across as "difficult."

He was, however, extremely set off by the "oral sex scene" that took place on Monday's RAW, and asked for a meeting with Vince McMahon about DX's direction. Sources are not yet aware of the status of that meeting.

Shawn Michaels will get knee surgery following the culmination of the DX angle, which was largely designed to boost summer ratings while helping HHH transition to babyface.

Get over it. If you'll do a tag team match where your partner is supposedly God, you can handle this.

WWE SIGNS FORMER MILLION DOLLAR TOUGH ENOUGH COMPETITOR
by Mike Johnson @ 1:30:00 PM on 7/10/2006

World Wrestling Entertainment has signed former Million Dollar Tough Enough competitor Daniel Rodimer. A Florida native, Rodimer played semi-pro football for the Tampa Bay Barracudas and competed for about five weeks on the Smackdown version of Tough Enough, eventually won by Daniel Puder. Rodimer, likely best remembered for his cockiness during the competition, will be assigned to the Deep South Wrestling developmental territory.

My first reaction to that was "who?"

Real F'n Show - July 10, 2006 11:05 PM (GMT)
I'm still having that exact same reaction.

He sounds like a jackass either way.

I also want to know how you have fucking Jerry Lawler and Ted Dibiase sitting around backstage at WWF shows and not a single worker on the roster can throw a good punch. Every person signed should be required to learn from Lawler in this area.

Not to mention Dean Malenko, Fit Finlay(before his return), Arn Anderson, and Ricky Steamboat as well......and how many guys can work on the entire roster?

OK...this has been buggy me...

How can Russia and Iran be numbah one?

Not Sabu vs. Credible. They were advertising Flair/Show as "extreme rules".

Yes, but it's fucking EXTREME Championship Wrestling. Every goddamn match should be "Extreme Rulz", and they shouldn't have to tell us if it is or not.

jamiegeist - July 12, 2006 06:30 PM (GMT)
Yeah, that made me want to stop my DVR and just turn it off.

Styles over there saying "And just so you know, this match is NOT Extreme Rulz". Just fucking lame.

Lame that they ever mentioned it to begin with, and now super lame that they're saying when it is or isn't in effect.

dynamite kido - July 12, 2006 08:15 PM (GMT)
I honestly think that if this IS the case, there should never be another no DQ match on RAW/SD/WWE PPV's ever again.

SamoaRowe - July 12, 2006 08:28 PM (GMT)
Ah, I turned the television off as Sabu/Credible was starting, so I thought the DQ conversation was in regards to Show/Flair. I guess that makes it less lame, but lame still.

Especially because not only did they play Sabu's music after the DQ, I didn't hear the announcer even say that Credible was the winner. But Tazz/Styles mentioned that he was DQ'd.

If you're talking about WrestleMania IX, then I have no idea why the crowd chanted "USA", even though Hart is Canadian.. But I guess since Yokozuna was the evil foreigner, they must've had some reason.

I just realized that anyone on wwe.com can clearly read that plate number from when Orton RKO'ed Hogan on the car trunk.

prof_plague - July 20, 2006 04:17 AM (GMT)
Last week was a good week to be a wrestling fan with cable.

Monday - Raw

Tuesday - ECW

Thursday - iMPACT

Firday - SmackDown!

Saturday - Saturday Night's Main Event

5/7 days with wrestling. Plus Victory Road on Sunday for a PPV (6/7), plus a couple of web-shows, a replay of iMPACT on Saturday night, AM Raw, and any lucky person with local wrestling and OVW in their area.

Speaking of Helms and the CW title, if you count his run as WCW and WWE CW champ, he's now held the title under three different names: Shane Helms, Hurricane, and Gregory Helms.

ECW house show recap (sort of, my memory sucks). The show was held at the Whittemore Center in Durham, NH.

The crowd was depressingly small. There seriously couldn't have been more than 400-500 fans. I would blame this on poor advertising for the event, a location that really isn't into wrestling, and that only a short drive away Raw was doing a show in Hampton.

Balls Mahoney beat a Puerto Rican wrestler, whose name I couldn't quite catch. Crappy match, but the crowd loved Balls.

O'Reilly and another guy (Derick something) beat Nunzio and Tony Mamaluke. Pretty good match, crowd really appreciated the FBI.

Mike Knox beat Stevie Richards. The match was meh, but it was fun listening to the crowd give Knox shit. Lots of "you can't wrestle" and "we want Kelly" chants.

Next up was a swim suit contest between Francine and Kelly. Francine wore a plaid bikini and Kelly wore a glitter covered piece of fabric. Francine had more crowd support, but Jazz ran in and beat the hell out of both of them, which brought a smile to my face.

CM Punk beat Kevin Fertig in a good match. Punk was VERY over with the crowd. Punk crossed his fingers, which scared Fertig out of the ring. Some little kids in the audience did the same thing and Fertig acted terrified, which was quite the hilarious visual. This match gives me hope for Fertig's vampire gimmick.

The Sandman drew Justin Credible in a cane match when Mike Knox interfered. The match was the usual cane shtick. Beforehand, Justin Credible cut a totally bad-ass promo (he called us fans "pieces of garbage" how hardcore). Sandman came down right by we were sitting, and we narrowly avoided being doused in his beer (which stunk up the joint). Tommy Dreamer ran in to help Sandman, which brought out Test, which lead to...

The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer beat Test and Mike Knox. I don't know what we did to deserve having to watch Knox wrestle twice. Very entertaining match, with the crowd chanting "Test is sterile" and other fun things. Test cut his arm somehow about halfway through and wasn't happy. A fan happened to spit on him too, which lead to security getting involved.

Big Show beat Sabu to retain the ECW title in an extreme rules match. Big Show spent considerable amounts of time interacting with some mouthy fans in the front row, which was amusing in itself. Sabu succeeded in smashing Show through a table at one point, but ended up being chokeslammed through another table. Afterwards, Show got out of the ring as fast as he could to avoid having things thrown at him.

All in all, it was an okay show, though on the short side (it barely went two hours, and that's with an intermission included). It was nice seeing CM Punk and Tony Mamaluke in person, and it had been a while since I'd seen Dreamer, so it worth going to me.

prof_plague - July 30, 2006 08:39 AM (GMT)
It was a great show where people should up by the tens!

*****~~!!! OMG!

No, it sucked. I want my money back.

Here's a second write-up about the show, from someone else who went, who isn't me - because I suck at these reviews (and too lazy to even care).

Let's just say, the cow's out of the barn.

In it's infinite wisdom, WWE booked a show in Durham, NH-a college town, home of the University of New Hampshire, during summer break. If that wasn't bad enough in terms of planning, WWE ran a house show in Hampton (20 miles away) for RAW at the same time.

Maybe a big state can handle two shows in the same night and make a profit. Not here.

Here is a look at the crowd during Justin Credible's introduction.

user posted image

There were, maybe, 300 people in an arena meant to hold several thousand. Just sad.

Here was the original line up:

ECW Extreme Rules Title Match
SABU vs. BIG SHOW

Show was a riot. he was kibitzing with the fans and he was so good, that a "That was Funny." chant started for some of his comebacks on the hecklers.

The match itself was hardly hardcore or extreme. Sabu used his chair a little, and two tables were busted. Sabu bladed after Big Show had already returned to the dressing room. Maybe there is a regulation here in New Hampshire (a la Maryland) that prohibits blood. because other than Sabu's post-match slicing, the only other blood of the night was when Test cut his arm hardway.

ECW Dueling Canes Match
SANDMAN vs. JUSTIN CREDIBLE

Short. Sandman came down past me and he was actually trim and tan!
Ruined my image of him. Laughing Sandman hurt his hip and they finished relatively quickly-which led to:

TOMMY DREAMER vs. TEST

Except it didn't happen that way. Test and Mike Knoxx attacked Sandman after his win. This led to a save by Tommy Dreamer, which led inevitably to a tag match with Dreamer and Sandman vs. Test and Knoxx. The faces won, with Dreamer doing most of the work.

As Sandman came back up the stairs past us, he was limping on his right leg and swearing to himself.

BTW: Biggest pop of the night was for the Sandman's entrance.

FBI vs. NEIKIRK and O’REILLY

I don't know who the two newbies are but one of them really needs to go back to school. He was the larger one in trunks, and was just clumsy in the ring. The F.B.I. got a great ovation after they did the job.

As a matter of fact, ALL of the original ECW alumni got great ovations after their matches, regardless of the outcome.

Extreme Vixen Body Contest
FRANCINE vs. KELLY

Francine won, and led the crowd in cheers for Kelly-leading to the return............

.......of Jazz. The crowd popped big-time as Jazz laid out both Kelly and Francine.

BALLS MAHONEY vs. MIKE KNOXX

This was the opener, but was changed to Ball vs. some kid with White Bread written all over him, but trying to raise some heat on the microphone by doing a bad imitation of Carlito/Razor Ramón speak.

Balls was over and got a "Welcome Back" chant. He won.

CM PUNK VS FERTIG

A really good match. Crowd was into it and the match went back and forth until Punk won with his finisher. It's one of those half-nelson/armlock combos that the Puro fans probably have memorized the name for in every language known to man. Fertig tapped out.

I've never been on the C.M. Punk bandwagon, but his match was the best of the night.

STEVIE RICHARDS VS CW ANDERSON

This turned into Stevie vs. Knoxx (Anderson was a no-show). Knoxx won with the twisting neckbreaker move that he's been using on TV. Stevie got a great cheer afterwards. A "You can't wrestle." chant broke out for Knoxx midway through the match.

I had a good time, but all of the matches were like watching an old episode of Heat. The flavor of the old ECW was non-existent...with the exception of the fans that were there. they got at least a dozen chants going through the night, and there were a lot of little kids at the show who truly believed. That was nice to see!

Scrooge McSuck - July 31, 2006 01:32 PM (GMT)
Damn, that's a small crowd... but I bet WWE sold more tickets to it than TNA has to any show they've ever done. :D

Mad Dog - July 31, 2006 01:38 PM (GMT)
TNA's sold in the 2000-3000 range. 300 showing up for a TNA show would be a disappointment by their standards. Hell 300 is bad for several indy feds out there.

Scrooge McSuck - July 31, 2006 01:42 PM (GMT)
Sold? I think you forgot the definition for that word. To sell something, you exchange the object in question (tickets) for money... and TNA has papered their crowds since day 1 for locations that hold maybe 1,000 people.

And anyone who actually buys tickets to their shows must have nothing better to do with their money.
