Title: What's a good book?

Real F'n Show - July 6, 2006 01:35 AM (GMT)
So I'm going on vacation in 10 days for a week and I'm looking to pick up something to read during any down time. I'm not a big reader, but some books I've enjoyed include Watership Down, It, Fight Club, and the Dark Tower series. What should I check out?

Wrestling Hall of Fame: Tag Teams. Write ups on over 100 teams from every era.

Tietam Brown

I'm going camping in about 10 days too (though not with RFS, before any of you say anything) and I'm bringing:

World Wrestling Insanity
Astonishing X-Men: Gifted
X-Men: Extinction Agenda

Good books: Neuromancer, Dune, Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, American Gods, Anansi Boys, Discworld Series, Idlewild/Edenborn/Everfree, or if you're looking for comics: Sandman, V for Vendetta, Watchmen, New X-Men: Riot at Xaivers, and Astonishing X-Men.

The Princess Bride

I usually pick up an Elmore Leonard book for vacation reading. They're kinda' quirky, but I enjoyed "Maximum Bob" and "Tishomingo Blues".

Other books I enjoyed:
-"The Straw Men" by Michael Marshall (conspiracy, secret society yarn)
-"It's Only a Game" by Terry Bradshaw... frickin hilarious, but I'm a TB mark
"-Velocity" by Dean Koontz (serial killer yarn)
-"John Carter of Mars" By Edgar Rice Burroughs (one of the original sci-fi stories. All 376 of 'em are light and an easy read. Completely different style than we're used to).
-"The Stand" by Stephen King. Get the full "un-cut" 1100 page version if you can. Probably my favorite book.

You might try "Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay" by Michael Chabon. It parallels early comic books. I thought it was a sick, overblown written blowjob to Jack Kirby, but alot of (non-comic) people have found it "fascinating".

What is this?

It's a book by Steve Gutterman (I think that's his name, I'd have to double check) and he writes about how the McMahons and Triple H are ruining the WWE and wrestling in general. I'm three chapters into it, and it's a good read. It also has quotes from people who have worked for Vince, like Terry Funk and D'Lo Brown.

Of course....there's also THIS entry into the world of literature:

WWE Big Apple Take Down

I remember having a funny remark about this a few months ago. Forget what I said, but it was DAMN FUCKING FUNNY!

"Glow Pucks & 10-Cent Beer: The 101 Worst Ideas in Sports History". Has both historical info, and loads of humor.

The only full book I've read in forever has been The Autobiography of Malcolm X. As long as you understand he's narrating about the past, don't take it too hard and can accept raw truth, then you'll be able to enjoy it.

A Confederacy of Dunces is a great book....but I think you've already gone on vacation. Fuck.

Angels and Demons was quite good, better than Da Vinci Code, IMHO.
