Picked up #1 on Monday and I really dug it. I had heard that this series was supposed to be separated from the mainstream Marvel U, but it included nods to the Superhero Registration Act and "Civil War".
The scripting is exceptional. It revolves around an amnesic Makari, working in a New York hospital as "Mark Curry". Ikaris shows up and tries to convince Curry of his heritage. Well paced and it makes a good presentation from the usually confusing (and boring) Eternals' history. The gist is that nobody remembers the Eternals. Some might cry "blasphemy" and "ret-con", but the Eternals really HAVE been forgotten by Marvel and its readers. Aside from Sersi's goofy treatment in 90's "Avengers", the Eternals haven't been used much. A reason for the forgetfulness is supposedly forthcoming.
John Romita Jr handles the art and for the most part that works well. His Celestials are great, as well as his shots of Curry and Ikaris. My only gripe is that he makes Sersi looks hideous. That's probably due to Romita's style, as his blocky figures don't really accentuate feminine qualities (I know, I know..I griped about Ms. Marvel's butt-floss earlier, and now I'm whining about Sersi's haggish appearance. But Sersi's supposed to be all hotsy totsy.... Ms.M's supposed to be heroic).
It's a 6 part miniseries at 3.99 a pop. Don't wait for the trade, pick it up now.
I've been looking to pick it up. I loved Kirby's work, and I love Gaiman's work as well. I hope it matches the hype.
It's in my pull box. I only left it there because of a cash flow problem last week (I forgot my credit card)
