Title: Is It Too Much To Ask...

For me to be able to walk into a comic book shop and for there not to be a problem when I want silver age bags and boards. I swear, everytime I try to buy them there's always some issue with them not being in stock. You're a fucking comic book shop. You should never run out of bags and boards.

Cheers to that.

I just don't get it. How does a comic shop run out of bags and boards. I could understand if it happened once but every fucking time it happens. Fucking manage your inventory.

Big F'N Swigg - June 5, 2006 10:52 PM (GMT)
I hate stores that don't have boxes. I need a box maybe twice a year. But does ANYONE have any? No. I have to go to Tennessee

The Last Free Voice - June 5, 2006 11:20 PM (GMT)
I've never had that problem. I actually get the bags and boards free because I have a pull there...

Mad Dog - June 6, 2006 08:49 AM (GMT)
I used to get that but they only use the current ones which are a pain in the ass to use compared to silver age.

The Last Free Voice - June 6, 2006 02:54 PM (GMT)
Oh... I didn't know there was a difference...

whitemilesdavis - June 6, 2006 03:06 PM (GMT)
What are bags, boards, and boxes?

Then again...nevermind.

Mad Dog - June 6, 2006 03:19 PM (GMT)
Bags and boards are plastic bags with a backing board that you stick comic books into so oxygen doesn't degrade the paper and provides protection from tearing. Boxes are long cardboard boxes that can hold up to 300 comics.

whitemilesdavis - June 6, 2006 04:52 PM (GMT)
Oh, well that makes sense. Never been to much into comics, but sounds like all of you guys are pretty big collectors?

Mad Dog - June 6, 2006 04:53 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I've been collecting since around 1991. Have several thousand books.

eStragand - June 6, 2006 05:21 PM (GMT)
Y'know..that's one of the few good things about Mile High Comics. They always have boards, bags and boxes in stock. Modern, Silver Age, Golden Age and even Magazine size bags.

But good luck assembling the boxes. The ones they currently sell are a BITCH to build. Not just Mile High, I've seen the same style sold everywhere for the past four years or so. You have to bend the flaps in an exact order, or else the box won't hold. I had a guy at Mile High go through four boxes for me in an attempt to build a good one.

Mad Dog - June 6, 2006 05:28 PM (GMT)
I used to have that problem then I figured out the trick to it. It's like a 5 second job once you know but it took me 15 years to get to that point. What you do is fold the non-flapped one in as close to the side as possible. Pull the flaps into where they should be and then the non-flapped one just falls into place.

Big F'N Swigg - June 6, 2006 07:33 PM (GMT)
My dude always has them built for me. I just waltz in, grab it, and leave with my pull and hold inside.

whitemilesdavis - June 6, 2006 07:54 PM (GMT)
My God, you buy that many Comic Books?

Mad Dog - June 6, 2006 08:02 PM (GMT)
Yeah, it adds up over time. I've been collecting for 15 years though. I've been getting from only maybe 3-4 titles a month to getting close to 30 at some of my bigger spending points. Currently I'm getting 16-20 titles monthly.

And I buy E-Bay lots. Get several hundred books for a couple hundred bucks.

eStragand - June 6, 2006 10:54 PM (GMT)
Right now, I have 31 boxes and about half a box that needs to be filed. I'll have to show you guys a picture of the ES Comic Vaults someday.

We've had alot of heat here, lately. Until last October, I had always stored my comics in an Undisclosed Location (okay...my folks' basement). Remained about 68 and dry down there, year round. Now that I store my comics in my own upstairs bedroom, the temperature varies quite a bit.

I had a standing oscillating fan in the room to help with the heat, but that didn't work too well. So I picked up an evaporative cooler and set that up. I just point it towards the window, keep it filled with water and the temperature remains about 73-76. Pretty cheap solution. Well, the evap. cooler ran about $120.

Have to keep an outside window open for the evap. cooler to work properly...so I hung a poncho over my giant comic rack in case of the sudden rainstorm.

Yeah, yeah...pretty boring and nerdy, but where else can I talk about my little project?! I need to brag about my accomplishment to feel some sense of satisfaction!

Big F'N Swigg - June 9, 2006 07:05 PM (GMT)
I'm on my third box now. Picked up some stuff down here in FL. My wife even started reading "Supergirl." She picked up "Alias" thinking it had something to do with the TV show. Boy was she surprised

Mad Dog - June 9, 2006 08:27 PM (GMT)
I currently have 14 boxes but I really need about 20 or so to organize my stuff halfway decently. My X-Men collection takes up 2 boxes by itself. I store them all in the basement with two dehumidifiers pointing out them all the time.
