Title: Namor, the Ultimate Mid-Carder

As most of you know I've been reading through most of Marvel's output from the 60s over the last couple of months. I noticed that almost every title minus Spider-Man and I think the FF has had the hero face off with Namor within the first 10 issues. It seemed he always showed up to build up the new kid in town.

Namor was in FF #4. But yeah, I've always been puzzled by his 60's push..I mean, even Daredevil got to fight Namor in his early issues!

Namor was one of their mainstays since the 40's-- that's the only reason I can think of for his inclusion. That it gave Marvel credibility or a form of recognition.

Even in Marvel's "lost" period, they would crank out stupid Sub-Mariner stories. During those, he wasn't the conceited prick we all know-- he was a lamed out combo of Aquaman and Superman. He'd say stuff like "jumpin' jellyfish!" and what not.

Yeah, Daredevil fighting Namor was what prompted this post They didn't click at all. At least they didn't cop out and have DD lamely beat him at the end. Though it's surprising that Spider-Man never really clashed with him. That probably would've been a better matchup for Namor than DD or the X-Men were. I was never a big fan of his team up with the Hulk to take on the Avengers either.

I know I've posted this before... but fear the tag-team of the Amazing Aquatics:
