#1 -- Chris Benoit v Dean Malenko, Labeling Claims Nitro 1999
Well, a nice start. The newer WCW logo is on the stage, suggesting around 1999 may be right. Commentary appears to be in french maybe, so whatever. Benoit is out first, looking badass. And here comes Malenko. Here is to hoping and praying this match happens in a few weeks at One Night Stand as well. Feeling out process, searching for single legs, no luck. Snap armdrag by Benoit, but Malenko is right back up. Malenko with a hammerlock, Benoit reverse, go behind, drop toehold, reversal by Benoit into the hammerlock, now into a headlock, off the ropes, hiptoss, block, Malenko goes behind, tries a roll up, no luck, rip up, exchange off the ropes, and Enziguri by Benoit. Niiiiice. Saturn is out at ringside, attempting to kill the workrate, but they just keep going. Hiptoss by Benoit takes Malenko over the top, and Benoit goes with him. Shane Douglas is out now as well. Fisitcuffs on the floor by Benoit and Malenko, and Saturn and Douglas pull them apart. They mutually head back in the ring, and we start over again. Hiptoss by Dean, straight into some kind of armlock. Just awesome. I want someone who does that today. Malenko somersaults a few times putting pressure on the arm, and I'm really like this. Benoit reverses into a cradle on Malenko, but Dean wont let go, and Benoit powers him up and over, crashing him to the mat. They need to stop showing Saturn. Benoit with a HARD forearm, flooring Deano. It is a real shame that Dean didn't ever get to the accolades of Benoit and Eddy. More brilliance with a rolling leghold I can't describe by Malenko. Malenko is just so believable on isolating a body part and just ripping it off. He goes to a single leg little toehold (again, so hard to describe alot of his shit) and is stretching the groin of Benoit as well. Grapevines the leg now, and Benoit does his trademark super scream. Selling the knee like crazy, as Malenko stalks him. Awesome spot here. Benoit whips Malenko, who jumps over the top and lands on the apron, but not all high and convoluted like most cruiserweights. Dean climbs, but Benoit is on him, and hits a superplex as Douglas and Saturn rally the crowd. Double clotheslines, and they fall on each other for a double near fall. Nice. Blind charge by Benoit, he eats boot, Dean goes for a victory roll, Benoit pushes him up, rolls him up. Kick out. Benoit now with Rolling Germans. One, and Dean reverses number two to a roll up. FUCK! I can't keep up. 2 count only. Benoit with a high angle back suplex, and he signals for the end. He climbs up top. Dean cuts him off. Dean now going up, maybe for a superplex of his own. YES! And Dean tries to float over, but Benoit hooks his leg for the 3 count at 7:30. Criminally short, cause this match kicked fucking ass. Felt like 2 minutes, tops. ***1/2. It was perfect, but can't go much higher due to the lack of time and build. Post-match, they all celebrate together, and Malenko raises Benoit's hand. Great match.
#2 -- Dean Malenko v Alex Wright -- Clash of the Champions.
Clip shows Malenko putting the Cloverleag on Wright on WCW Saturday Night and refusing to release. I'm sure I could figure out when this is from, as it is from Caeser's Palace. Wright comes out, in the black jacket as always. Please tell me he is gonna dance. No dancing. Damn. Thats a loss of a * right ther.e They circle to open up. Headlock take down by Wright, reversed to headscissors by Malenko, Wright kips up in a unique fashion. They reverse the spot now, and Malenko kips up out of it and hits a head lock, and Malenko gets a hammerlock and a leg sweep. Kip up by Wright, and a stand off. Nice! How did Wright not succeeed? Maybe cause I never saw him do much of this. Stumble by Wright, on cue, and a standing switch by Malnko. Wright with a backflip, and then a drop kick. And another, into a headscissor. I guess he is playing face, but the crowd kind of goes 'Das what?'. Malenko takes a powder. Back in and Wright misses an Enziguri, and Malenko smashes an elbow into Malenko's leg, and then goes to town on it with a knee drop, and a dropkick. Awesome. Heenan brilliant calls it out, saying "What other man drops an elbow on a knee to get the advantage". I miss Brain, and Malenko for things like that. NASTY dragon whip, where Wright turns the wrong way. Wright sells the shit out of it, cause it probably hurt like hell. Malenko grapevines the leg, and Wright reaches the ropes. Malenko still killing the knee on the ropes now, and he stuffs Wright into the corner and kicks him somemore. Reversal by Wright, who springs up top, and hits a crossbody block. Wright still selling the knee, and now some nice Euro Uppercuts, till Malenko catches him with a backslide. Wright floats over, whips him off the ropes, and a dropkick. A little sloppy exchange by Wright, and Malenko looks like he is sick of him, so he hits a back suplex and goes up top. Wright dropkicks him while he is up top, crotches Malenko. He follows him up, and nails a superplex. BIG superplex. Goddam, this stuff makes WWE look SO BAD right now. Wright hits a German Suplex with a bridge, for a 2 count. Rolls through for another, but Malenko elbows him, and then takes control with a running forearm to the head. Wright whips him to the corner, does a walk up kick to the face (think Jackie Chan movie), and as he comes down from the flip, Malenko dropkicks him right in the knee for being a douche. He then flips over, bridges the leg, and wins....or something. Wright seemed to kick out, but the ref calls for the bell. Something didn't look right. Upon further review, it looks like the ref fucked up, counting the first two very fast, and then counting the 3rd. So yeah, he got him. Only 6:40, which isn't horrid, but it was pretty good while it was on. **3/4, but would've been better with some real time.
#3 -- Rey Mysterio Jr v Dean Malenko - from Oberhausen, Germany , 6/19/97
Sweet. This could be good. It is a WCW broadcast, of some kind. The circle in the ring and shake hands. Collar and elbow, Dean backs him into the corner and gives a clean release. The ropes are Yellow, Orange, and Red, a really different and weird visual. Quick exchanges to open that I can't possibly call, ending with a full nelson by Dean, standing switch, and then Dean with a headlock and goes to a hold on Rey's arm. Dean with a headscissor, armlock combo. Rey headstands, and escapes, and reverses the pressure onto Malenko's knee. Malenko reaches ropes, and the crowd kind of cheers. Weird Germans. Malenko back to the arm here, Malenko does the flippy reversal, scoops the leg, pinfall, 2 count, Snap mares, up quick, off the ropes, Malenko reverses, monkey flip, Rey lands on his feet. They smack into each other, Rey off the ropes headscissor into an armdrag to the outside. Rey runs off the ropes, and fakes the 619 for a crowd pop. Nice sequence that I couldn't give credit to. Thats the kind of thing I miss in wrestling anymore. Of course, these are two REALLY good guys doing it. Double handlock, and Malenko wins and scoops the leg, going right into a single leg crab. Crowd gets a small "Rey" chant going, as Malenko sits down on it. Looks like there going to stretch this one out and go long, but my clip here only says 10 minutes. Hmmmm. Dean sinks this Crab in deep, putting Rey right on his head ala the LionTamer. Dean flips him out of it and covers for a 2 count. Beautiful fuckin delayed suplex by Malenko. Just perfect form. Cover and 2 count. Malenko goes to a chinlock now, with the knee in the back. Amazing how much different a knee in the back makes rather than just sitting down with a chinlock. Great flipping dropkick by Rey to escape . Malenko runs him over with a knee to the midsection though. Takes him up in a fireman's carry, and great elevation on the gutbuster. LOVE that move. Rey rolls to the outside to take a breather. Back in the ring, HUGE FUCKING powerbomb by Malenko. Just rocks his ass on the back of his head. Awesome. 2 count only. Man I miss Dean Malenko right now. Malenko goes for a press slam, reverses by Rey to a sunset flip, kick out, inside crable by Rey, kick out, and Malenko runs him over with a clothesline. Rey selling the throat instead of fixing his fucking mask. Dean flips him over like a dick, and slaps on a nice deep Camel Clutch. Rey powers up, so Dean releases, and whips him off the ropes, and SKIES HIS ASS up in the air with a front face drop thing. Cover, and 2 count. Another cover, and 2. And another, and 2. Changes to a hard cover, scooping both legs, and STILL 2. And my feed cuts off. Shit. Looks like a 2 parter......sooo
#4 -- Rey Mysterio Jr v Dean Malenko Pt 2 -- from Oberhausen, Germany , 6/19/97
Back to action here, as Dean slaps a nice shoulder hold on Rey. I wish I had something to call all of these moves, but I just dont. Dean rolls it into a pin for a 2 count, and keeps stretching him out. Another pin, and 2 again. Crowd getting behind Rey now. They're ugly AND German, judging by that crowd shot. Dean keeps crankin on the arm, while Rey yells. The lack of Eddy chants is so nice. Dean picks him up for one EVIL fucking backbreaker. What a dick. 2 count only. Whip off the ropes, and Dean locks in a sleeper, and immediately falls to his back and wraps him leg around...looking an awful lot like Samoa Joe's finisher. Malenko puts that thing on with some vengeance, and the arm doprs once, twice, and........oh my god he held it up!!! I can't believe it. How wrestling has managed to not do that spot more often today is beyond me, because it is classic and it great for storytelling. Rey elbows out, bounces off the ropes, but Dean grabs the sleeper and AGAIN drops right down and wraps the legs. Ref checking the arm again. This time he keeps it up and gets his legs moving. Rey looks like he is gonna get free, but he fades once again. It nearly drops 3 times again, and crowd falls for it. 3 times in one fucking match, and the crowd still loves it. Rey finally gets the ropes, but Malenko grabs him, snap mares him and drives his elbow right into Rey's forehead. Rey off the ropes, Sunset flip, 2 count. Malenko still on the offensive, he whips Rey, tries a go behind, but Rey runs him right through the ropes. Rey now on the inside, Malenk on the apron. Rey hits the ropes, and dropkicks his feet, dropping Malenko to the floor. Rey with a Springboard Senton to the outside, crashing into the entryway. The pacing here is magnificent. Rey tosses him in the ring, and fakes a springboard in, but instead goes with a springboard backflip. Malenko catches him, and after a reversal into the corner, Rey leapfrogs to the top and tries a flip, but Dean moves. Dean grabs him, and hits an Alabama slam. And HOLY SHIT! Quick pinfall reversal in about 2 second. I don't know how to type it, so uhhh, it was cool. 2 count for Rey to end it. Malenko whips him off the ropes, Rey with a headscissor, but Malenko catches him, and sets in a DEEP Bostom Crab as he holds him by the thighs. Nice. Rey reaches the ropes as Dean shows some rare emotion, frustrated. Malenko bring charge, eats boot, Rey with a victory roll, but Malenko drops him on his face, and goes into the Mexican Surfboard. YES! He drops Rey, right into a bridge's german suplex position, for a 2 count. Malenko whips him into the corner, goes for a powerslam, but Rey falls on top. Malenko with a clothesline, and he is heading up top. Rey follows him up, and goes for a superplex, but Malenko wont allow it. Dropkick instead. Malenko still up top. Rey climbs and tries a huracanrana, but Malenko pushes him away, flipping him. Rey quickly runs back up the ropes, and hits the huracanrana from the top. Covers him quick! 3 count at 18:30!!! Great little match with no overproduction, overbooking, or overannouncing (since it is German and all). ****
#5 -- Wild Pegasus & Black Tiger v Dean Malenko & Brad Armstrong -- 06/15/94
Ummmm. HELL YES! Good luck on play by play for this one, I tell myself. Tiger and Armstrong open up. Clean break in the corner by Tiger. They exchange a standing switch, before Tiger goes to an armwring, and then works him down to the mat with his legs. Armstrong with a headlock takeover, and a headscissor by Tiger. Armstrong gets to his knees and headstand into a kip up escape, and into his own headlock. Off the ropes, Armstrong runs Tiger over, and hits a snapmare and chinlock. Tiger reverses him intoa headlock. Off the ropes, and Tiger wins this time. Armstrong goes for a roll up, but Riger with a springboard moonsault from the top. Misses, Armstrong with a armdrags, and 2 dropkicks into a stand off: with applause. Pegasus and Malenko both tag in. Test of strength, and Malenko wins, bridging Pegasus onto his neck. Malenko jumps on top, but Benoit keeps the bridge. They jump up, into the monkey flip with no release of the hands. Again, stame spot, Malenko launches up, sunset flip, super reversal spot. I just wanna stop typing and watch cause I can't keep up. Awesome applause from the crowd. Benoit with a kick and a punch, as Pegasus is getting too hard to type. Reversal, headstand kip up by Malenko, into a roll up, and a cartwheel escape by Malenko, and a Enziguri by Benoit. Benoit throws him to the outside, tries a baseball slide, but Dean slides in, but Tiger runs in with a lariat to the back of the head. Benoit with a snap suplex, and settles in on a headlock, and tags Tiger. Tiger whips him, and his a big leg whip for a 2 count. Tiger with a front facelock, but Malenko pushes to his corner and tags Armstrong. Boy, who feels out of place here. Armstong works a headlock on Tiger, but Tiger hits a backdrop driver, and then a snap senton from the outside in. Tag to Benoit, and a double team ending with a Benoit back elbow for 2. Benoit with a chop, and a whip to the ropes, big boot. Benoit goes for a powerbomb, armdrag counter by Armstrong. Rocker Dropper counter by Armstrong, and Benoit goes for a dropkick which Armstrong swats away. Benoit whips him off the ropes, and Armstrong with a nice swinging neckbreaker for 2. Tag to Malenko. He whips Benoit, and hits his own legwhip, which Tiger breaks up the count on. Tiger in now, elbow to Malenko. Tiger with a nice fallaway slam, for 2. Weak Exploder by Tiger, looked like Dean didn't wanna help out with that one. Tiger sinks in a chinlock, working his wrist right acrossed the nose of Malenko. Crowd is getting behind Malenko here. Armstrong pumping them up, looking like some Miek Awesome clone. Reversal sequence ending with a Tiger German Suplex with Bridge. Delayed BRAINbuster by Tiger for 2. Tiger picks him up, and hits ANOTHER brainbuster for 2. Awesome. Tiger slams him and tags Benoit. Big Splash from the top by Benoit for 2. He slams Malenko now, and Tiger up top with the Frog Splash. For 2! They're kicking his ass. Whip off the ropes, and Malenko with a Tiger Driver, right into the Cloverleaf. Awesome. Tiger sounds like he wants to tape, but reaches the ropes. Tiger up and hits a lariat, and thehn takes him up into a powerbomb, but puts on the backbreaker, I believe a Gory special of sometime. Malenko snaps mares him and goes right back to the Cloverleaf. Benoit breaks it up, so Malenko floors him. Malenko puts it on again, and Benoit runs him over. Got a little clusterfucky in there. Malenko pushes Tiger off the ropes, duck under, double crossbody block lays both out. Tiger looks to the wrong corner and gets a great reaction from the crowd. Benoit and Armstrong tag in. Benoit whips him off the ropes, reversal, NICE russian legsweep by Armstrong for 2. Armstrong up top, crossbody, 2 count only. He whips Benoit again, and hits a nice dropkick and celebrates for a reaction. Slams Benoit, and slingshots Malenko over and in for a 2 count. Malenko whips Benoit to the corner, jumps over. Malenko up top, crossbody, roll through, 2 count. Whew. Getting fast here. Benoit with an EVIL lariat hard to the throat. And then a vicious powerbomb for 2. Armstrong breaks it up. Tiger rushes in, and both he and Armstrong tumble out. Benoit whips Malenk off the ropes, Malenko scoops his legs, goes for the cloverleaf ,but Benoit with the small package for the win at 13:45. ***3/4 Pretty damn good. I thought it would have a better going home sequence, but it was nice overall.
Well, I just picked a random name, and got me a nice hour of wrestling. Hells yeah.
