NWA Midwest presents... SUMMER GLORY
Joey Styles: Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to NWA Midwest's very first supercard, Summer Glory. I'm Joey Styles...
Jimmy Bauer: And I'm Jimmy Bauer here with the unbiased, straight down the middle color commentary.
Styles: Unbiased? Yeah.....
Bauer: What?
MATCH #1:Jerry Lynn vs. Homicide (w/Onyx)
Styles: It is time for our first match of the evening, Jerry Lynn vs. Homicide.
Bauer: This is one of the matches I've been looking forward to, Joey.
Styles: This is a rivalry based in pride. Jerry Lynn is considered one of the founding fathers of the X-Division, while Homicide sees himself as someone who has raised the bar.
Bauer: And Joey, it can be argued that his match with Paul London on our first Saturday Night broadcast did that.
Styles: That is true, Jimmy. But that is no reason for Homicide, and Onyx for that matter, to attack Jerry Lynn the way that they did.
Bauer: You have to admit, Joey. It did get a point across.
Styles: Ok, I'll admit. It made a point.
Homicide and Onyx converse before the match starts. Jerry Lynn warms up in the ring. Homicide hops in. Lynn tells the ref to keep an eye on Onyx. Homicide tries to charge Lynn. Lynn catches him with a drop toe hold. Lynn goes for some chain wrestling, which Homicide matches move for move. The two drop off into an indy applause stance. The crowd reacts appropriately. Lynn maintains control for most of the match, as his experience allows him to anticipate a lot of Homicide's moves. Homicide gets frustrated and rolls out of the ring. He moves over to talk with Onyx. Lynn takes the opportunity to pull off a springboard plancha onto both men.
All 3 men lay outside the ring. Onyx took the brunt of Lynn's attack, though, which allows Homicide the chance he's been waiting for. Homicide stumbles to his feet and throws Jerry Lynn into the guardrail. Homicide throws Lynn into the apron, and then rolls into the ring. Lynn stands, but Homicide hits him with a baseball slide. Homicide steps to the outside. Onyx hands him something. Homicide starts some leg work on Jerry Lynn. Lynn starts to comeback and hits an enziguiri to 'Cide. Lynn starts to take back momentum. He's signaling for the Cradle Piledriver. Onyx jumps onto the apron and distracts the ref. Homicide pulls something out of his pocket. Lynn gets Homicide up for the Cradle Piledriver, and Homicide gouges Lynn in the leg with a FORK. The leg Cide was working on. Lynn goes for his leg, and Homicide gets him in the Cop Killer. Onyx tells the ref to count. He does...
WINNER: Homicide (74/69/80)
Styles: Homicide used a FORK on Jerry Lynn!
Bauer: That's what it takes to move to a whole new level, Styles.
Styles: Then leave me on the ground floor... I hear we have Batista backstage...
INTERVIEW WITH BATISTAJosh Matthews: Batista, tonight you're taking on William Regal in a match that will decide the FIRST NWA Midwestern Champion. Are you nervous?
Batista: Josh, there are always butterflies. That never changes. Everytime I hear the opening chords to my intro music, I get a feeling in my gut that you can't describe.
But I'll tell you the truth. Wrestling a guy like Regal makes the butterflies a bit stronger. But that's not such a bad thing. If I didn't get those butterflies, I'd be scaredMatthews: Are you worried about any tactics that some might consider unfair?
Batista: You mean like the British Invasion attacking me after the Contract Signing? Yeah. But you can't let that distract you. If you let things like that get into your head, you'll go crazy.Matthews: Alright, good luck tonight, Batista. (88)
MATCH #2:Terry Funk & Raven vs. Ken Kennedy & Bobby Roode
Styles: This match was signed last night as a result of Kennedy & Roode attacking Terry Funk. Raven, in a move uncharacteristic of Raven, came out to save Terry Funk and then challenged Roode & Kennedy.
Bauer: It looks to me as if Funk & Raven are in over their heads. These are two "blue chippers" they're in the ring with. Two guys who can probably out wrestle and out last the ECW Veterans.
Styles: Don't take Terry Funk OR Raven for granted Jimmy.
Kennedy & Raven start the match out. Raven gets some offense in, and this causes Kennedy to step back and demand Funk. Raven is offended, but Funk yells at him and asks for Raven to tag him in. Raven takes a deep breath to calm himself, and steps back to tag Funk. Funk steps in, and he and Kennedy circle the ring. Funk starts to step forward, and Kennedy steps back and tags in Bobby Roode. Funk shakes his head. Roode steps up to Funk and Funk points at Kennedy and says "You're time is coming." Roode looks at Funk, and then slaps him in the face. Funk looks at Roode, who tells him "You talk to me when I'm in the ring." The two go at it, lefts and rights.
Roode gets the best of Funk right off the bat, and Kennedy wants in. Roode throws Funk into the corner, stretches him, and tags in Kennedy. Kennedy goes to town. And he taunts Raven. And Raven is pissed. Kennedy beats on Funk some more. He makes a yawning motion, then declares "I'm bored," and tags in Roode. Roode steps a few feet away from Raven and taunts Raven. He turns around and Funk clobbers him. Funk then tags in a happy Raven.
Raven angrily goes after Roode. The two brawl for a bit, and Raven gets the upper hand. The brawl ends when Raven hits the Raven Effect on Roode. Raven then drags Roode into Kennedy's corner and tells Kennedy to tag in. Kennedy shakes his head no. Raven turns to check on Funk, and Kennedy tags in. Kennedy sledges Raven in the back. The two brawl a bit. Kennedy starts to slow it down by slapping Raven in a headlock. Raven shoots Kennedy out, and hits the drop toe hold. Raven then tags in Funk.
Funk goes after Kennedy. Kennedy crawls backward and rolls out of the ring. He stands outside and gets hit in the back of the head with a double axehandle. Funk takes Kennedy around the ring and throws him into the apron, which brings Roode around. Raven meets Roode and the two brawl outside the ring. Funk rolls Kennedy in, but Kennedy gets up quickly. The two fight, and Kennedy gets the upper hand. Kennedy hits the Lambeau Leap and goes for the pin
WINNERS:Ken Kennedy & Bobby Roode (72/71/74)
Bauer: Do you know what this proves, Styles?
Styles: That Kennedy is one lucky bastard?
Bauer: No, Joey. It proves that Terry Funk is too old to step into that ring anymore....
INTERVIEW WITH BILL ALFONSO & SABUBill Alfonso is sitting in a wheelchair backstage. Sabu is standing behind him, wringing his wrists and pointing to the lights....
Bill Alfonso: CHRIS BENOIT!!! You think that just because I cost you one match that YOU can drag me into the ring and try to beat my ass? That you can put ME in a wheelchair? Well Sabu thinks that you need an ass whipping of your own. Because you're the reason he's not fighting Batista for the NWA Midwest Championship tonight. YOU. That's why I blew that whistle in your ear. That's why he attacked you last night. Because you stepped inbetween him and the NWA Midwestern Title. So tonight, be prepared. The SUICIDAL, HOMICIDAL, GENOCIDAL Maniac has an Arabian Facebuster with your name written all over it. **BLOWS WHISTLE AND CRINGES IN HIS WHEELCHAIR** (72)
Styles: How did Benoit cost Sabu that match?
Bauer: Does it really matter, Joey?
NWA MIDWESTERN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH Chair Swinging Freaks vs. Blackout vs. The Briscoe Brothers vs. The British Invasion
Styles: This match was made official last night by the NEW NWA Midwest Commissioner, Rowdy Roddy Piper. Each of these four teams have made quite an impact in the tag division in the past few weeks.
Bauer: I'm a bit peeved, Joey. There was a tag team that deserved to be in this match that didn't get picked.
Styles: Well, The Naturals have been selected to appear in the NWA Mexico Trios Tournament with Paul London.....
Bauer: THE NATURALS??? Joey, Joey, Joey. I was talking about Lords of the Ring.
First Fall....Kory Chavis of Blackout and Jay Briscoe start the match. Good mat work by Briscoe leads to Chavis tagging in Nigel McGuinness. Nigel tries some chain wrestling, but Briscoe keeps up every step of the way. Nigel "golfer claps" and tags in Murder-One. There's some light brawling, and Balls Mahoney tags himself in. It's Balls all over Murder-One. Chavis tries to get in, but the Brits run interference as balls hits the "Whoa Balls!" punches. Murder-One stumbles around, and Balls hits the "Nutcracker Suite"
Eliminated: Blackout
Second Fall:Nigel steps in the ring. He walks up to Balls, takes a whiff and steps back. "Not only is his name Balls, but he smells like Balls too!" The crowd boos. Balls replies "You would know, Union Jack" while simulating masturbation. (Hey, if my humor is anything, it's mature.) The two meet in the middle of the ring and Balls gets the initial advantage. Nigel, though, plays smart and ends up throwing Balls into the Briscoe's corner. Mark Briscoe is quick to tag in, though Jay doesn't look too happy. Briscoe dives at Nigel, who sidesteps. Nigel plays around with the over-enthusiastic Briscoe, who ends up as the face in peril. Nigel and Burchill have some fun with him, but Burchill puts him away with the London Bridge. (Fisherman's Suplex w/ Bridge)
Eliminated: The Briscoes
Final Fall:It's The Chair Swinging Freaks versus the British Invasion. Axl jumps in, and he and Burchill look eager to pound the stuffing out of each other. Surprise! That's what they do. The matchup is fairly even, with the Freaks using the weight advantage, and the Brits getting a "smarts" advantage. The end comes, though, when Axl is standing outside the ring smashing Nigel into the apron. He turns around and sees the Tag belts. He grabs one and holds it high. The crowd erupts. The ref is pre-occupied with Balls and Burchill clobbering each other on the other side of the ring, and Nigel grabs a chair. Axl turns around, and Nigel clobbers him with it, bringing both the belt and the chair onto Axl scarred cranium. The crowd boos. Nigel struggles, but gets Axl in the ring as the ref turns to them, and goes for the cover.
WINNERS AND NEW NWA MIDWESTERN TAG TEAM CHAMPIONS: The British Invasion (63/46/80)
Styles: I have a feeling, Jimmy, that this is far from over.
Bauer: I think you're right Joey. The Freaks are going to be whining to Roddy Piper about this.
Styles: WHINING? Oh my god..
INTERVIEW WITH JERRY LYNNJosh Matthews walks in as Jerry Lynn is in the medical room.
Matthews: Jerry Lynn, I was just wondering if you had anything to say about your match tonight?
Jerry Lynn: Do I have anything to say? I don't know what to say, Josh. Those two thugs think that stabbing people with a fork takes it to the next level? I have to get a tetanus shot tonight because of that. I mean, I was in ECW. I know what Hardcore is all about. But this isn't hardcore wrestling. This is the X Division. What they did is one step away from Backyard Wrestling.
I'm disgusted Josh. I got nothing else to say... (69)
Styles:Harsh words from Jerry Lynn for Homicide and Onyx.
Bauer: Hey, do you hear that Joey?
Styles: No, what?
Bauer: That's the world's smallest violin playing.
MATCH #4: Chris Benoit vs. Sabu
Styles: I can't believe you. Speaking of ECW, the match we're about to see is a rematch of one that helped make Benoit's career in the United States. Years ago, these two fought and Chris Benoit broke Sabu's neck.
Bauer: You know, weeks ago they fought and Benoit broke Sabu's ribs.
Styles: That's not true. Benoit did nothing of the sort.
Bauer: Well, he did nothing, that's for sure.
Benoit looks at Alfonso in a wheelchair and laughs. Sabu doesn't think it's funny. In fact, it's so not funny the two brawl. Chops Ahoy! Benoit of course starts out in the lead until Sabu reverses out of a suplex and delivers a springboard crossbody. Then a springboard legdrop. Then Sabu *gasp* WORKS THE ARM to lower the possibility of the Crippler Crossface. Benoit breaks free an rolls out of the ring. Alfonso rolls around the corner and blows his whistle at Benoit. Benoit looks at Alfonso, who rolls backward and ends up spilling on the floor. Sabu flies over the ropes at Benoit, connecting with the guardrail as much as Benoit. It looks like Sabu might have hurt his leg. Benoit gets up slowly and rolls back in the ring. Sabu stands up and shakes his leg a bit. He's favoring it, and Benoit doesn't fail to notice. Benoit attacks the leg. Then he goes for Sabu's sore ribs. Alfonso rolls close the the ring and slides a chair across the ring. He then blows his whistle and yells for Benoit. He taunts Benoit. Benoit gets up and warns Alfonso. Sabu goes for the chair. Benoit turns around and ducks as Sabu throws the chair. The chair ends up falling on Alfonso. Sabu charges at Benoit, who delivers a spinebuster, and rolls it into the Sharpshooter. Sabu won't tap. Benoit repeatedly hops up and down to stress Sabu's sore ribs. He then punches Sabu's bad leg. Sabu responds, but won't tap. Benoit lets loose of one leg and turns the Sharpshooter into the Liontamer. Sabu reacts IMMEDIATELY. Benoit lays it on HARD and SABU TAPS.
WINNER: Chris Benoit (84/85/85)
Styles: OH MY GOD. Benoit made Sabu tap. I can't believe it.....
Bauer: I'll believe it when I see it.
Styles: It just happened, IN THE RING.
Bauer: I didn't see it. My contact came out....
William Regal vs. BatistaStyles: I'm still stunned. Benoit made Sabu tap....
Bauer: I'll take this, Joey. Ladies and Gentlemen, and I use that loosely, it is now time for our Main Event of the evening. The NWA Midwestern Championship Match between William Regal and Batista. Let's take a look at the Championship Brackets.
Styles: As you can see, Batista had to beat both Raven and Abyss. Both good brawlers who can surprise with their technical ability at times.
Bauer: And William Regal bested both Monty Brown and Chris Benoit. A brawler and a technical wrestler.
Styles: Who just made Sabu tap.
Bauer: Joey, we're talking about Regal and Batista now. These two signed a contract several weeks ago, and had the night off last night to prepare for tonights match. Regal is a crafty veteran who leans on chain wrestling, though he can brawl stiffly. Batista is a brawler by nature, who has learned some technical moves to accent his power. Though this won't be a perfect match, it should be an interesting clash of styles.
The match starts with Regal attempting to prove himself by delivering a STIFF shot to Batista. Batista steps back and shakes his head. He then delivers a STIFF shot of his own, which has Regal hunched over in the corner. Regal returns the favor, but is quick to follow with some chain wrestling. Batista powers out and the two men nod their heads to each other in respect. They come to blows again. Regal goes for some chain wrestling, and Batista reverses it. Regal shoots Batista into the ropes and Batista knocks him on his back. Batista leapfrogs, and then Regal throws him over the ropes. Regal waves his hand to the back, and out from behind the curtain steps the British Invasion. The crowd boos. Batista stands up and sees the Invasion. He looks at Regal and shakes his head. That is, until the Chair Swinging Freaks hop out of the crowd, chairs in hand, behind the Brits. Regal tries to warn them, but the Freaks CLOBBER the new Tag Team Champions. Regal is stunned. Batista takes advantage and clotheslines Regal. After some power moves, Batista hits the Batista Bomb for the win.
WINNER AND NEW NWA MIDWESTERN CHAMPION: BATISTA (82/85/77)
Styles: BATISTA WINS!!! He is THE NWA MIDWESTERN CHAMPION! HAVE A GOOD NIGHT EVERYBODY!!!
