Title: Stump the Sage

eStragand - May 17, 2006 05:14 PM (GMT)
Okay, I can pitch as well as catch..so let's see if this gets any traffic. The idea is a direct rip-off from a radio guy here who does "Stump the Sage" Music Trivia every Wednesday morning. Combined with Mad Dog's Oreo question from yesterday. Why should I have all the fun of writing trivia?!

The idea is to throw out a trivia question, or general question you have about DC and Marvel comics. I'll try to answer it, and if you stump me, you win. Check out my past few weeks of "Comic Trivia" to get a good feel.

Not just TRIVIA questions..you can also toss me general questions. Like "where does Batman's giant dinosaur come from?" This will not only keep me entertained and build my deflated ego, but I'm sure you'll learn something from it. Think of me as "ES-pedia.org"

Couple guidelines:
1- NO creator questions. Like :"who inked X-Factor #3" or "who was golfing with Julius Schwartz when they decided to make Justice League?" or "how many times does J. Scott Campbell masturbate in a given day?" In "Earth-ES" we don't particularly care for creators, just characters and storylines. Stick to the on-screen or kayfabe stuff. No backstage politics.

2-No open ended or mutliple answers to a question. Like: "name three members of the League of Assassains". Stuff like that will waste about four posts on clarification. Preferrably question with a firm answer in mind.

2A- If your general question is more of a background question with the intent of learning something, I'll be more long-winded and try to recount the story. If you ask "how did Jean-Paul Valley become Batman", expect an essay.

3-No "issue number" questions. Like: "in which issue did Hellcat get her magic cloak?" Nobody in their right mind should know that stuff, and it'd just result in me looking it up. I want you to challenge my feeble MIND..not my research skills.

4- No overlapping of questions. If one person asks a question, wait until I answer his/her ("her"? ha! that's a good one) question before asking yours. Of course, if I go for about a week without answering your question, that means I'm dead and we've got bigger problems.

You have your orders...now go, my son!

Trivia:

1. What crossover was going on while Spider-Man had his cosmic powers?

2. What lame X-Men character was a former prostitute?

3. What drug did Cecilia Reyes get addicted to while fighting the Neo?

4. How does Spider-Man defeat Venom for the first time?

Acts of Vengeance

2.  What lame X-Men character was a former prostitute?

Staci X

QUOTE
3.  What drug did Cecilia Reyes get addicted to while fighting the Neo?

Rave....based off of Ecstacy, if I remember correctly

4.  How does Spider-Man defeat Venom for the first time?

Could be tricky... the first time he defeated the SUIT by hopping into a bell tower and the resulting sonic noise made it go away.

But I think you're looking for the first time Spidey fought Venom, Proper (with Eddie Brock). Spidey got him to use up all his webbing, then knocked him off the roof of the church.

Mad Dog - May 17, 2006 06:53 PM (GMT)
Yeah, all right. I'll go through some books and see if I can find some harder stuff for you.

Mad Dog - May 17, 2006 06:55 PM (GMT)
Ah, here's a good one...

1. What's Aunt May's favorite televised sporting event?

That is a good one. Have to think about it over lunch. But for now I'll guess.... wrestling.

Mad Dog - May 17, 2006 07:13 PM (GMT)
Good guess. I don't remember the exact issue, just that Peter was surprised that she watched it.

Scrooge McSuck - May 17, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
What kind of front was the Terrible Tinkerer using in Amazing Spider Man #2?

An electronics repair shop. A radio repair led Peter to the shop.

What is it with old ladies and wrestling?

Being senile makes them think it's real.

Okay....

Who was the girl whos rejection of Rhino led him to get surgery to make him a genius?

eStragand - May 23, 2006 03:25 PM (GMT)
Rhino's a genius? Wow.. this one I have no idea about. I'll guess... Leila Davis? (I'm thinking back to "Deadly Foes of Spider-Man")

Big F'N Swigg - May 23, 2006 03:38 PM (GMT)
Nope....

I'll give you something to work with. It was a storyline that wasn't in a major Spidey book. It was called, and boy is this a blatant rip off, "Flowers for Rhino."

Mad Dog - May 23, 2006 04:04 PM (GMT)
What does Deadpool typically call Taskmaster in his own book?

I tap out to your knowledge of Rhino trivia!! I had to cheat and Google it.

Stella Pavlov. From "Spider-Man:Tangled Web"

I'll guess "Jolly Roger" or just "Roger".

Mad Dog - May 23, 2006 05:54 PM (GMT)
Barney was what he typically referred to Taskmaster as. Titania was also known as Skeeter in that circle. Damn I really miss Deadpool in a monthly book without Cable.

eStragand - May 23, 2006 05:59 PM (GMT)
Skeeter was Titania's nickname growing up. I think she even mentioned it during her first appearance back in "Secret Wars". Bascially, she was a runt growing up and was always picked on. So "Skeeter" wasn't anything new or exclusive to Deadpool.

Who was the first supervillain Jessica Jones faced?

Who joined the Hellfire Club in....(I can't believe I'm referencing a Howard Mackie Book) Mutant X as the Black Queen.

Who did Grant Morrison want to kill, for good, in New X-Men

I'll guess Killgrave, the Purple Man. Although since her entire history is a retcon, that may change in the future.

Kitty Pryde.

No creator questions. See first post.

My mistake man, sorry

eStragand - June 14, 2006 06:20 PM (GMT)
Don't sweat it. I just don't get into creators and "off-screen" stuff because it really can't be proven. It's usually based off of some online interview and to me, that doesn't tie-in with what's going on in the books themselves. Which is why I usually refer to creators as "The Writer", "The Artist" or some other annonymous term.

Alot of the "off-screen" rumors get blown out of proportion. Like the disgustingly incorrect (yet accepted as fact) myth about "Human Torch was left off the FF cartoon because they thought kids would light themselves on fire". (don't start... that whole thing is FALSE). Good example is That Fat Chic Who Wrote Nightwing-- roughly 10% of comic fanboys read her stuff, but 99% of comic fanboys think she, and Nightwing, SUCK.

Big F'N Swigg - June 15, 2006 01:40 AM (GMT)
who did Morrison want to kill?

eStragand - June 15, 2006 04:00 AM (GMT)
I'd guess Jean Grey/Phoenix... but honestly, if this gets more than one additional reply (DAVE's clarification), I'll be Commencin' to Gettin' Pissed.
