Title: Sony......

Mad Dog - May 11, 2006 01:32 PM (GMT)
$650 for a friggin PS3? No thank you.

Scrooge McSuck - May 11, 2006 02:01 PM (GMT)
... You've got to be kidding me. $650?!? What the fuck does it do, clean house and make dinner too?

Mad Dog - May 11, 2006 02:14 PM (GMT)
Well $599 for the system but $650 the minute you add anything else.

Scrooge McSuck - May 11, 2006 02:17 PM (GMT)
Still, $600 for a god damn system? I think I paid that much combined for the X-Box, Gamecube, and PS2... ok, maybe $650. :P

SamoaRowe - May 11, 2006 05:36 PM (GMT)
The sad thing is that people will still buy it.

Nintendo is looking pretty good right about now...

TheGreatWhiteChoate - May 11, 2006 06:07 PM (GMT)
Nintendo always looks pretty good. Sony ends up having a lot of good games, but Nintendo's systems are more high quality, the best games on the Nintendo are some of the best, and the system's also much cheaper. Plus, the controller promises to be innovative. Why the hell would you spend 650 on a system with all that?

*collects paycheck from Nintendo

Big F'N Swigg - May 11, 2006 06:09 PM (GMT)
That settles that, looks like I'll get an Xbox 360.

Except the XBox 360 sucks ass.

Big F'N Swigg - May 11, 2006 06:10 PM (GMT)
I've liked what I've seen. Except Madden. But that's Madden. But I've ALWAYS hated Madden.

I won't buy one anytime soon, but the XboX 360 will be cheaper longer, so that's what I'll get.

Not a Nintendo kid, I'm guessing.

Big F'N Swigg - May 11, 2006 06:14 PM (GMT)
I used to be... But Nintendo doesn't have anything that gets my attention anymore.

The Wii looks cool and all, but I don't want to have to exercise to play a video game.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - May 11, 2006 06:16 PM (GMT)
No, I know what you mean. They'll have a controller shell so you don't have to wave it around all the time, I guess. I just can't believe Sony's retailing an inferior product, technology wise, for 400 dollars more.

Big F'N Swigg - May 11, 2006 06:18 PM (GMT)
Does the Wii do DVD???

Does the Wii do DVD???

Yeah, that's the one drawback. Then again, I buy my systems to play games on solely, and I have a $30 DVD player....so I don't really care. But if that's what Sony's charging $400 bucks more for....

Scrooge McSuck - May 11, 2006 06:27 PM (GMT)
$400 more for a DVD player compatable? Let's see... PS2 me cost $200-ish with a built in DVD player in 2002. My regular DVD player cost $70, and another cost $100...

Fuck you Sony!

Sony's making the PS3 Blu-Ray compatible, I think.

Which leads me to say this....

I'm not going to buy new DVD's of all my movies just because they're "HD." You told me when I bought my movies on DVD the first time that it was digital quality, blah blah blah. Why are you trying to make me buy them in HD now? You realize this will fail like Laser Discs & BETA right? Because it will.

So yeah, I think that's a big part of the price, actually.

Basically. I saw a video for the new Mario and I was sold. If the PS3 comes down to like 300 in a few years, I may buy it, but for now, Wiiiiiii!

Big F'N Swigg - May 11, 2006 06:31 PM (GMT)
You got a link to that vid?

Scrooge McSuck - May 11, 2006 06:32 PM (GMT)
I've always been a Nintendo boy, so the Wii will be first on my list too. I know with Nintendo I can get good Mario, Zelda, and Castlevania games. With PS2, they really don't have a "signature" series of their own. Tomb Raider was overrated and pretty much died in 2000, Crash Bandicoot has been second rate for about as long.

IGN

There's actually more than one video on here. It's hard to judge quality based on the shitty E3 cameras, but the gameplay looks
great.

Smash Brovaz!
And here's a Smash Bros. trailer. Solid Snake's in it!

I'm going to have to quote Scrooge here and say I need some paper towels. That looks fucking fantastic.

Big F'N Swigg - May 11, 2006 06:44 PM (GMT)
It looks good. I'd want to see some sports games before I shelled out for the console though.

And I have to admit, watching the guy in the Metroid demo actually roll into a ball was pretty friggin' funny

TheGreatWhiteChoate - May 11, 2006 06:49 PM (GMT)
Understandable. I just couldn't go without Mario/Zelda/Metroid/Smash Bros/Mario Kart, because I've been playing them since I was little and they're still the best games out there. I heard EA's interested in bringing some sports franchises over that can take advantage of the new controller, like a baseball game where you'd actually swing and pitch.

jamiegeist - May 11, 2006 06:58 PM (GMT)
Where'd you get 650? The most credible thing I found on the net was an initial retail of 399. However, that was with just the system and one wired controller. The big number people are tossing out assumes you want to buy a memory card, 2 wireless controllers, and the HD compatible thing.

Now I could be wrong, cause there are alot of numbers floating around: but what I saw said 399 for bare bones, which isn't nearly as intimidatingly horrible.

TheGreatWhiteChoate - May 11, 2006 07:06 PM (GMT)
IGN is reporting $599 with a larger hard drive....$499 with a tiny one. The extra comes from, you know, controllers and the like. It's still a ridiculous price.

Scrooge McSuck - May 11, 2006 07:08 PM (GMT)
Either way, I'll be the "cheap bastard" and wait 18 months-2 years and get it for half the original price, then enjoy it for 3-4 years until the next gen. system comes out.

jamiegeist - May 11, 2006 07:10 PM (GMT)
Damn, I'm looking at Wii stuff, and I'm totally impressed. I've been a pretty big Nintendo hater post-64, what with Gamecube's rediculous little controller.

But this controller and all the motion shit looks awesome. Tennis, baseball, and golf, where you actually swing? Thats wicked awesome.

It's looking like a really great idea. I've heard it's fantastic for first person shooters, too.

Oh, and I've read there's a speaker in the controller...so like if you shoot a gun, the gun noise will come out of your controller.

jamiegeist - May 11, 2006 07:13 PM (GMT)
Maybe I'm out of the loop or something;

Wii will have downloadable access to 20 years of fan-favorite titles originally released for Nintendo 64, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) and even the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The Virtual Console also will feature a "best of" selection from Sega Genesis titles and games from the TurboGrafx console (a system jointly developed by NEC and Hudson). It also will be home to new games conceived by indie developers whose creativity is larger than their budget

But I fuckin want this thing.

Scrooge McSuck - May 11, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
I forgot about that.

Wii is even more greater than PS3.

Big F'N Swigg - May 11, 2006 08:51 PM (GMT)
It'll play TurboGrafx games? I'm IN!!!!

Mad Dog - May 12, 2006 01:03 AM (GMT)
So I watched the trailer for Smash Brothers Brawl and holy crap I must own that game.

S.T. Strickler - May 12, 2006 01:49 AM (GMT)
It would still be nice if Nintendo could get Sega CD games on there. I want Snatcher and Shining Force CD, dang it!... And yeah, I want a Wii, so I can go "Wii, Wii, Wii" all the way home.

Mad Dog - May 12, 2006 02:20 AM (GMT)
I honestly think Sony really hurt themselves this time around. Nintendo absolutely blew me away this week. The system isn't even out and they already have 3 killer app. games ready to go. I watched the Mario Galaxy trailers and it looks absolutely awesome too.

S.T. Strickler - May 12, 2006 02:35 AM (GMT)
Nintendo is bringing back Duck Hunt as well, along with some gun-controller shell.

jamiegeist - May 12, 2006 03:14 AM (GMT)
Wicked awesome. Hope they bring back the dog that retrieves your kills too. And I'll try not to scratch my mom's tv screen with the tip of the gun this time around.

That was a lame joke... but it still caught me off guard enough for a laugh. :D
