Title: OAO: What Are You Reading - May
Mad Dog - May 5, 2006 07:59 PM (GMT)
So I read Amazing Spider-Man #531 today. Spidey fights the Titanium Man. Probably one of the better JMS issues as the humors back. Spidey asking TM to "say moose and squirrel just once" was priceless. It of course sets up the Civil War crossover a bit. This issue has actually tempted me to start picking the book up again.

Amazing Spider-Man #39. It's all done without any text bubbles or thoughts, which makes it a bit more interesting to follow.
The Runaways #3. Feh. Focuses on a bunch of kids who have evil parents (and 1 set of parents are aliens... and there's a dinosaur).

I found all six issues of "DC: The New Frontier" for a buck each, at a going out o' bid-ness sale.
It involves the entire DCU, has character development and introductions... and at the end everyone teams up to save the world from extinction at the hands of a big epic monster. And all in SIX double-sized issue. Infinite CRISIS only wishes it could have woven plots and characters together like this did.
In fact, I liked it so much that it's now the lead "hype box" story on my site for the next week or two. Or, if you're reading this well after May 5, here's the direct link:

Just started Da Vinci Code. This is from a dude that does NOT read. But this thing is cool.
eStragand - May 5, 2006 09:03 PM (GMT)
Heh...apparently he's a dude that can't read folder descriptions, either! Who's making the COMIC BOOK adaptation of DaVinci Code?!
Naw, just messin witcha', Jamie. Easy mistake when ya' see "What are you Reading" in the "RANDOM" folder.
Your Cool Points are unaffected.

Yes! Yeah, I just clicked it from the main forum directory. So I didn't bother looking at it. Saw it was a bunch of comic discussion.....but i figure you are all just a bunch of comic nerds, and thats what you read :)

Hearing that same joke on "My Name is Earl" three months ago was even more priceless-y...err, pricelessier... errr..
That's a funny joke, anyways and fits with with Spidey's demeanor. Spidey vs. Titanium Man sounds like a good match-up. Whenever I see "Amazing" at the grocery store, I pick it up. Luckily, I didn't pick it up during the Gwen Stacy retcon. That sounded horrible... but the issues I have picked up have been fairly entertaining. A team-up with Loki and some Avengers stuff with HYDRA.

It's not a really long battle. When he wins there's a bunch of people back and he wants to say something cool and the only thing he can say is "and don't come back."

Red Teen Titans #35 yesterday. Pretty good issue but I'm still not really sold on the Cyborg, Robin, Wonder Girl, Ravager, Kid Devil lineup.
I've got the first issues of Ion and Checkmate coming Monday along with Outsiders, JSA, Ultimate Spider-Man, Astonishing X-Men, Civil War and the Thing.
Mad Dog - May 9, 2006 09:23 PM (GMT)
Just finished Ion #1 and Checkmate #1. Ion was decent. I'll probably give it a couple of issues. Checkmate took all of my willpower to make it through and will be my first dropped book since my return to comics.
Mad Dog - May 10, 2006 12:15 AM (GMT)
Just finished Civil War #1. Pretty good except that the Captain America thing made almost no sense.

I love shoot comments that aren't supposed to be shoot comments. :P
Captain America #12 - Part 4 of the Winter Soldier storyline. Here's the run-down on the first page for people like me who didn't read them all...
| QUOTE |
Captain America's life has become a living nightmare, beginning with the murder of the Red Skull and the theft of the cosmic cube, and escalating when General Aleksander Lukin--the man responsible for the Skull's death--set off a WMD on American soil.
Lukin's main operative is a man called the Winter Soldier, a mysterious Cold War assassin, and now that Cap has read the secret KGB dossier on the WINTER SOLDIER PROJECT, he knows that the Winter Soldier is in fact his old partner, Bucky Barnes. |
The issue mainly focuses on Cap's inner struggle over what he has to do to Bucky/TWS, and further advancement on the cosmic cube, which has strange powers... just like everything else. A slow issue I think, but decent enough for me to want to check out the next issue.
Next on the block to read...
The New Avengers #11
Amazing Adventures #11 featuring The Beast (Marvel Milestones)
Uncanny X-Men #153: Kitty's Fairy Tale (Marvel Milestones)

What exactly bugged ya' about it? The way Cap and SHIELD instantly came to blows after one disagreement?
Oh, Scroogey-- the Cosmic Cube is another of those Ultimate Power Gizmos. The user can basically re-shape reality and do just about anything. It's been popping up in "Cap" since the 60's.
Mad Dog - May 11, 2006 04:23 PM (GMT)
The bill hadn't even passed yet and they were at least a month away from having to take action. Agent Hill setting him up at this point didn't make sense. It was a sloppy move on her part. And it also doesn't seem like Cap's really opposed to the idea. It seems like it's more about the dick waving contest with Hill than it is about actually being against the registration act.

One of these days someone will create a security strong enough to keep it from being stolen every other issue. :P

I think the dick waving was the thing. Hill and the Avengers have been at if for awhile now, ever since the Savage Land thingie.
Has she been seen before "New Avengers"? I think there could be something more to her character that just "bitchy new head of SHIELD".
Mad Dog - May 12, 2006 07:39 AM (GMT)
She was involved with the recent Secret War but I can't say that I've heard of her before then.
Mad Dog - May 16, 2006 10:55 PM (GMT)
I picked up a bunch of issues of Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man book at the one grocery store around here that carries comics. I haven't read them yet but I'm hoping they give me what the JMS crapfest isn't.
Scrooge McSuck - May 18, 2006 09:54 PM (GMT)
Jughead Comics #172. Yes, I subscribed to the Archie Comics. I'm King Dork! Now I just need to send this order form for Archie & Pals and Sonic the Hedgehog. :D
eStragand - May 19, 2006 11:23 PM (GMT)
Archie? You've sent in outfit designs for Betty & Veronica, haven't you?
"**Veronica's zip-away miniskirt designed by Scrooge McSuck"

What kind of pathetic nerd do you take me for?
By the way, ever have the chance to package those old comics for me? :D
The Last Free Voice - May 20, 2006 12:19 AM (GMT)
My V for Vendetta came in today, finally, and I'm finishing that. Also, my comic place called and requested I pick up my pull, which was only like, four things, but I did it anyway, so I read IC 7, 52 1 and 2, and Astonishing 14. Thoughts tomorrow.
Mad Dog - May 23, 2006 02:21 AM (GMT)
I read Nightwing #120 and it was actually a pretty good issue. It probably saved this series from getting dropped during the summer. I will now give it a second story arc before I decide.
