Title: OAO Lucha Libre Thread
Mad Dog - May 3, 2006 09:49 PM (GMT)
Ok, this thread is going to be for the general education of the lucha libre style and matches. I will be fielding all questions you have about the style in general. Whatever you want to know. I will also post links to any youtube lucha libre that I can find.

I've watched a decent amount of lucha years ago (which I don't have any in my possession), but what are the shows that are MUST HAVES???

The show that has Mistico vs. El Hijo Del Perro Aguayo is a must have. It was probably the best match I've ever seen on CMLL tv.
jamiegeist - May 3, 2006 10:12 PM (GMT)
What does El Hijo mean, and why do alot of wrestlers seem to have it before their name?

Who was Shocker's pint-sized mascot in the blue gorilla outfit? He was only 10% Guapo.
I always ask that question, and always forget
Mad Dog - May 3, 2006 10:27 PM (GMT)
Monito, he gets beat up by Atlantis on a weekly basis now.
Real F'n Show - May 3, 2006 11:52 PM (GMT)
How awesome are Perro Jr. and Ultimo Guerrero?
Answer = very.
I need to start following CMLL more...

I think the lucha & Puro companies could make some serious cash by paying someone to do english commentary for them. It would make it that much easier for me to buy some Puro or Lucha tapes

This hurts my soul.

I have one Lucha DVD, apparently posted by Konnan's company. It's alright. I'm still tryign to figure out why there was a spider-man and power ranger person.

I think I saw this once at FYE. What's all on it? Is it older or newer stuff?

Why? I've still got Puro & Lucha without the english commentary. It doesn't hurt the fact that I watch it.
And actually, I would only accept it with certain announcers. I say this because FMW's DVD's were SOOOO much better with the Japanese commentators

It's called Desperados Del Ring Volume 3
Mask vs. Mask- Ultraman 2000 vs. Psicosis
Juventud (in mask), Halloween, and Psicosis vs. Rey Jr., Super Calo and Leon Negro
Octagon and La Parka vs. Cibernettico and Heavy Metal
Cibernettico, Pieroth and Heavy Metal vs. Octagon, La Parka and Konnan
and a few other matches not on the back. Seems to be older.

Looks like mid-90's AAA. I need to pick this up.

I said that because with Wrestling and films, nothing bothers me more than people that can't watch movies with subtitles or watch wrestling commentated in another language.
whitemilesdavis - May 5, 2006 01:31 AM (GMT)
I agree with Swigg on this, and films are a completely different subject.
The point of an announcer is to put over the action, emotion and angles going on in the ring. When this is done well, it GREATLY enhances the effect a match can have on the viewer. It can't help at all if I can't understand one word the announcers are saying. Now I still watch puro and appreciate the matches for what they are, but if Gordon Solie was commentig on it, it make it that much better.
dynamite kido - May 5, 2006 01:48 PM (GMT)
I know what you guys are saying, but I should have made myself clear. I just hate when people refuse to watch it at all because there isn't commentary they can understand.
Big F'N Swigg - May 5, 2006 04:03 PM (GMT)
I'll still watch it. Hell, I watched Lucha every week after I got off work while I was in college. But like WMD said, it would enhance the product to have English commentators.
More people would be able to get into the product that way.

There is no doubt that it would get more people into the product, but companies out of Japan and Mexico basically don't aim to gain an American audience at all.
