Title: May/June Impact Discussion

I am offended at the discrimination at the hands of Xplosion! I will not rest until Xplosion and Impact have equal rights! :P
Princess Leena - May 3, 2006 03:35 AM (GMT)
I watch Xplosion occasionally on a Hong Kong channel online. It's mostly just a review of Impact. And another pointless squash match.
jamiegeist - May 3, 2006 08:19 AM (GMT)
Damn, I loved Impact! again this week. It just kills WWE for me anymore. Loved the World X Cup Tag match. That thing was hot, fast, good, false finishes. Awesome. I'd like to see more of those two japanese workers as well, and sure would have liked them to mention their names a bit more, as I still don't know who they were.
Would like more clarification on the rules of this X Cup. How long is each round, things like that. Just giving points feels like a bit of a copout, but we'll see how they do.
Abyss/Christian served its purpose really well, and I would really be interested in seeing a TLC match with them. Sounds awesome.
It is just kind of sad to watch Daniels totally carry the promo with he and Styles. I just don't understand why Styles can't be more natural on the mic like Daniels. Good promo from Daneils though, and good job explaining why exactly they asked for and recieved a title shot.
Joe v Lethal wasn't as good as it could have/should have been. Not sure what was going on in that. A few generic restholds from Joe for the first time that I've seen. Lethal got the crowd goin kind of hot though, so that was good.
The staredown with Jarrett and Steiner was great, even knowing what was coming.
I really enjoyed the final segment with everyone. Sting playing the mind games with Jarrett is a nice touch, and they're using guys like Bagwell and Luger perfectly. Just little cameo roles. It is also a great hook if any casual viewers happen to flip over and see WCW seemingly reuniting in some funky ass ring. Why not.
Great show, looking forward to the next few weeks.

Okay, Impact SUCKED this week. Total crap
Scrooge McSuck - May 5, 2006 04:17 PM (GMT)
Hmm... when someone not me admits a show sucking, that means something. What was on it that was so bad?

It wasn't that there was something bad, there just wasn't anything good. The closest thing was the X Cup match, but even that lacked.
dynamite kido - May 5, 2006 04:30 PM (GMT)
The X-division match was okay and Shelley/Christian was solid.
Scrooge McSuck - May 5, 2006 04:31 PM (GMT)
SHELLEY VS. CHRISTIAN!?
(sets VCR)
<--Alex Shelley mark.

See, Shelley vs. Christian just didn't do it for me. I really like both guys, but the match just didn't have it. You could say, though, that part of my not liking it was because it didn't fit in the storyline. Christian should have been KILLING Shelley, and Shelley should have been worried about getting killed. But it looked like just another day at the office for them. No intensity on either part for me.
Scrooge McSuck - May 5, 2006 04:37 PM (GMT)
So in short you felt both men were dialing it in and/or the booking team gave them terrible directions?

Something like that
Scrooge McSuck - May 5, 2006 04:42 PM (GMT)
Works for me. I have nothing better to watch, so I'll probably still catch 1 of the 3 replays. :P
Did they air one of the stupid Nash interviews that should elevate someone who has already been World Champ 3 times?

The first part, yeah. He calls himself the highest grossing champion of the nineties. He says he made more money than Austin. And I think he believes it
Scrooge McSuck - May 5, 2006 04:52 PM (GMT)
I know everyone knows my reaction... but I'm laughing my balls off just thinking of him saying that.
Nash said that, the guy who is marked for life as the WORST drawing WWF Champion of all time. The only reason the nWo got so big was because of Hogan, and even that wasn't some monster draw. It just made WCW real competition to WWF for 4 years.

He credits himself for the nWo too. You'll laugh so hard you cry watching that video
Scrooge McSuck - May 5, 2006 04:58 PM (GMT)
That may rank right up there with Nash tearing his quad 5 seconds into the match he made his return in from injury in 2002.
dynamite kido - May 5, 2006 05:00 PM (GMT)
I honestly think that Nash was playing the role so to speak. But even though I hate Nash, that interview was funnier than shit.
jamiegeist - May 5, 2006 08:39 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Nash was definitely playing a role. It was good too. For Scrooge, who hasn't seen it, he had a hand-drawn peice of poster paper with green marker on it showing Hogan, Hart, Nash, Austin, and Rock, with Nash's peak being miles above everyone, with Austin kind of close by. It was great. They also put a little bit in there at the end where Nash said "The X Division? Yeah, its some good little guys going out there having good little matches. I'd say its good filler" or something like that. Tenay of course overreacted and almost killed the whole thing dead, but whatever.
Otherwise, yeah, Impact was pretty lame. Sting's segment wasn't near as good the second time around, especially with only ONE choice. Lame.
X-Cup Tag Match was sloppy as hell. I don't know if it was Team Canada or the Mexicans, but Shocker and (?) Magno came off really sloppy and shitty in that match.
Shelley-Christian pissed me off for a few reasons. They kind of started okay with Christian pissed, but Shelley didn't get a fuckin shot in until about 10 minutes. That was lame. They just didn't have any momentum or feeling either. Some good moves, but it was just move after move, kind of Christian's problem if you ask me. Shelley was pretty brilliant though, playing to the camera after almost any move, and selling like a champ. Nice inverted DDT on the apron that I bet hurt like hell too.
Oh, and I nearly forgot about the Tag Title Match. I'd say the bright spot of the show. Great finish with Gail trying a huracanrana, and then Styles counters to the Clash, but eats a superkick, and then Gail hits the huracanrana. It was all Styles, but it was still pretty.
Scrooge McSuck - May 5, 2006 08:47 PM (GMT)
The Nash bit sounds even more hilarious. Visual jokes = Money.
eStragand - May 5, 2006 10:01 PM (GMT)
Nash is a rather funny guy. Some of his original nWo promos were hilarious. "Each shirt is 15 bucks...or buy TWO for 30 bucks!". Then he would introduce the nWo stuffed bear. To me, that's funny. His commentator stint on the "all-shoot edition" of Thunder in late 1999 was fun. Yeah not a typo, he made Thunder fun--- that's an accomplishment on some level.
Sounds like he could get off a few in-character zingers on the X boys. If I can remember to watch, I'll try and sorta', maybe, possibly follow this.
jamiegeist - May 5, 2006 10:13 PM (GMT)
All-Shoot Thunder?
I don't recall. Please elaborate.
eStragand - May 5, 2006 10:39 PM (GMT)
A good portion of it at this page:
http://www.ddtdigest.com/updates/1999102t.htmNash had been "retired" by Hogan around September 1999 and was a guest commentator on Thunder. He was making all sorts of dumb zingers. Booker T ran in and Nash said "Wow! It's Wesley Snipes!!! Oh wait...it's just Booker T".
He did a voiceover for a Goldberg-Sid package, narrating it like NFL Films Deep Voice Guy. "Bill Goldberg.,.. bald man with a tattoo..only one loss in his career...to the great warrior Kevin Nash. He's facing the 310... no, 325, no, 385, no.. 570 pound Sid Vicious!".
They had an ad for WCW acton figures and he jokingly complained about his action figure "doing the job in that commercial"
Mike Tenay was having some fun, too. He said something like "this is the ALL-SHOOT edition of Thunder!!"
jamiegeist - May 6, 2006 08:22 AM (GMT)
I forgot to note how awesome the 5 or 6 fans were who busted out the loud ass "Peanut Butter Shelley Time" chant at the beginning of the main event. That ruled.
Scrooge McSuck - May 6, 2006 09:10 AM (GMT)
Okay, now that's why I hate TNA fans. What casual crowd is going to start a chant of THAT? I guess I should be happy it was the beginning of the match, when nothing is happening.
Big F'N Swigg - May 6, 2006 02:27 PM (GMT)
The fans were definitely retarded on Impact
jamiegeist - May 12, 2006 09:01 AM (GMT)
Wow, I really enjoyed Impact again. They're doing alot of things right:
The opening segment with 3D and the Outlaws was easily the most entertained I've been by either of those teams since TNA moved to Spike. If that wasn't proof that the Outlaws should be working heel, I don't know what is. I won't care for the match much, but the segment was fun. Bubba is SO lame anymore though. Dude, stop starting your own chants.
Sabin v Puma was okay, but needed more time. They were working well, despite TNA putting 80 people on the stages, and backstage, and ringside, and all that. The X cup seriously needs more like 2 or 3 months in this silly ass format.
The Nash segment was VERY good. TNA does a good job of always explaining WHY a camera is there. I love that they even addressed it here, with Shelley asking Nash why he brought him here. Nash said the right things, and is playing it great. My only worry it that he is probably gonna have to run over some people (hopefully respectfully) to eventually put over the ending, which is probably AJ over him. AJ is pretty much elevated, so I'd honestly prefer Dutt at this point. Hopefully they stretch this out a bit.
Abyss' squash and Christian attacked served its purpose. I loved the fans chanting "move that chair". Great.
The Joe reveal was nice, although I would've just preferred his music to kick on. Great reactions from Jarrett and Joe. I still think Joe turns on Sting, but doesn't align with Jarrett.
6-man Main Event was too rushed to be much of anything, but did its job selling the PPV. A pretty good card. I won't be ordering, but I am definitely interested in the decisions they make.
I love the idea of a 16 man gauntlet match, but uh....that should get somewhere around an hour, and will get something more like 20 minutes, which is just silly.
dynamite kido - May 12, 2006 12:49 PM (GMT)
I thought the show last night was okay.
-The Dudley/Outlaws segment WAS good..............but the payoff is the match and that WON'T be good.
Sabin/Puma was fun, but short. Oh, and the whole x-cup thing is fucking terrible.
Nash segment was funny, but I don't know if comedically burying your roster is a smart thing to do.
Oh and from what I've been hearing, AJ won't be doing the thing with Nash...................SABIN will.
The reaction for Joe being the partner was pretty damn strong.........which is showing that Joe is being recieved in the way that they need him too............but just making him default face is pretty shitty booking to me. They could have had him make the turn and it would have made sense.....it's just lazy doing it this way.
Main event = bland.
Scrooge McSuck - May 12, 2006 01:26 PM (GMT)
Big F'N Swigg - May 12, 2006 02:07 PM (GMT)
Nothing about last nights show makes me want to buy the PPV. Nothing.
Especially not announcing Team 3D vs. James Gang THE SHOW BEFORE THE PPV. They could've announced it 3 weeks ago, and they wait until last night. BAD TNA!!
TheGreatWhiteChoate - May 12, 2006 08:00 PM (GMT)
Call me the lone voice of dissent if you want, but the whole "here come a bunch of old WCW guys!" is a worrying development for me.
jamiegeist - May 12, 2006 08:06 PM (GMT)
Whats the bunch of WCW guys coming in? Did I miss something?
whitemilesdavis - May 12, 2006 08:06 PM (GMT)
TNA is boring. Sorry, but it is. It's not the fault of the roster either.
jamiegeist - May 12, 2006 08:10 PM (GMT)
Weird. I actually watch actively when I watch TNA. I find it much less boring than WWE. I enjoy watching both, but I feel alot more active when I watch Impact. I think it has alot to do with it only being an hour though.

The past few weeks, definitely.
Scrooge McSuck - May 12, 2006 08:16 PM (GMT)
One problem I think TNA has... if you miss Impact, you didn't miss anything. Nothing seems to be "must watch" for them. Joe/Abyss/Brown will squash someone, Jarrett will talk for 10 minutes despite being such a one note talker, and they cycle through X-Division guys in rushed matches with no psychology.
jamiegeist - May 12, 2006 08:26 PM (GMT)
Yeah, thats a pretty good point by Scrooge. Although Joe/Daniels on the Thursday Move was what I would consider "can't miss". Otherwise, you're right.
Big F'N Swigg - May 12, 2006 08:29 PM (GMT)
What makes me sad is that the Abyss/Christian storyline is almost forgotten so Jarrett can feud with Sting
Scrooge McSuck - May 12, 2006 08:33 PM (GMT)
You're right, geistman. Daniels/Joe was probably the best Impact match since the Spike TV move... but you wouldn't know it today, since TNA pretty much forgot it ever happend, and there wasn't much (if any) hype to it.
TNA's mission: Pimp what's happening NOW, which explains Tenay and West having orgasms every 5 seconds.
Edit: And did they blow off the Jackie Gayda angle YET?!
