Title: First game you attended

eStragand - April 26, 2006 03:39 PM (GMT)
I was rummaging through the "Back in the Day" rasslin' folder and the never-moving "First Live Event" thread. I thought we could do a similar thing for the so-called REAL sports. Just stick to the big four (NFL, MLB, NBA and that stupid ice skating thingie). Unless you really wanna' hear about my story about the Denver Grizzlies game, when I grabbed a guy by the throat for bumping my dad (frick..I guess you just DID).

Mine:
-First NFL game: November 1989. Steelers at Broncos (in Denver)
We sat way the hell up top. Broncos won in a rout. Gary Kubiak had been in at QB for awhile and some drunk Mexican next to us kept yelling "c'mon, Johnny!!"

-First MLB game: May 1992. Reds at Pirates (in Pittsburgh)
Pirates won 12-5, after scoring a club record 11 runs in the sixth! Zane Smith and Tom Browning were the starters. I had actually gone to a Pirates game when I was 2, but I don't remember anything.

-First NBA game: February 1987. Somebody at Nuggets (in Denver)
No idea who won. No idea who played. Got free tickets for being in Scouts. I think we played our usual Violent Tag Game around the arena and fucked with the urinals.

-First professional ice-skating game: January 1996. Flyers at Avalanche (in Denver).
Inaugural season for the ice-skating team..and I was only following them cuz' this hot chic I was lusting after with was into them. Ended in a tie and thus began my hate for hockey.... time-limit draws are LAME!

Never been to major league level teams. I've been to some minor league baseball games back in the day though when I was a wee lad.

Don't recall my first baseball, but definitely remember my first trip to Arrowhead:

Seahawks @ Chiefs, December 90 (I think). SOO fuckin cold. It was like, half raining/snowing/sleeting through the entire game, and my dad and I were just freezing our balls off. Chiefs blocked a Seahawks punt in their own endzone and fell on it for a Touchdown. That is about the main thing I remember. Oh, and we won.

Chiefs have never lost a regular season game (on Sunday) with me in attendance.

I know, thats a baseball stat if I've ever heard on.

Y'know..I believe that Chiefs/Seahawks game was when Derrick Thomas tied or set an NFL record for sacks in a single game. Pretty cool.

Oh yeah, with the cold weather, I'm betting Dave Krieg fumbled at least ONCE!

My first baseball game was a Braves game. My cousin's birthday is ten days before mine, so our parents got both of us tickets as a present. We went with our dads, rode the six some hours to Atlanta, and met Hurricane Andrew. Rain out. We got to go to a game the next May to make up for it. The best thing is, my uncle worked for the company that made Butterfinger BB's, and gave us a five pound bag before they ever hit the stores.

Needless to say, they were gone before the game and my cousin and I thought we would ralph them up waiting for the game to start

Red Sox game when I was really little. I think it was against the Tigers, but it was a long time ago.

Celtics game, two years ago...they played the Suns and got destroyed. The highlight was the drunk guy behind me who kept slapping my friend on the shoulder and yelling at him to cheer....until he turned around and threatened to kill him.

My first baseball game was I believe July of 1991 when the Pirates played the San Diego Padres. The only things I remember from the game was I saw my first ever homerun in person (Tony Gwinn by the way). I know that the Pirates won as well.....

Football - The Steelers 1994 AFC championship game against the Colts. We won and went to the Super Bowl...........I was 14 and somehow ended up horribly drunk.

Basketball - My aunt got married in 1991 to a guy that worked for United Airlines and they moved to Chicago. They flew me out and I got to go see the Bulls play the Cavs. Which owned because I got to see Jordan play.

Hockey - I saw the Penguins play the Ottawa Senators in 1995. That was the Penguin team that had Jagr, Luc Robitalle, etc.

Oh shit... just to add (and make me feel OLD), my dad took me to a USFL game in 1984. Denver Gold hosted the Oakland Invaders (I think). Denver lost badly. There was a post-game Alabama concert and the stadium suddenly filled up for that.

Choate's drunk story made me think of the Gold game. A drunk guy two rows in front of us spent three quarters folding a paper airplane. He finally threw it in the fourth quarter. It went three rows down and took a nosedive. Poor guy.

First baseball game: Columbus Clippers in the Spring of 91.

First hockey game: Columbus Chill like around 92 or something. First pro hockey game was the first time the Blue Jackets played the Red Wings in 2000.

First basketball game: Probably high school games. Never been to an NBA game as Cleveland's the closest thing and the only college game was a New Mexico State game.

Football: Only been to one Bengals preseason game in the mid 90s. Been to about 6 Ohio State games over the years. I don't really care for live football.

Soccer: Like the third or fourth season that the Columbus Crew were around.

Boxing: Went to amateur night about 2 years ago in Athens, OH.

Wrestling: Saw a WCW house show in 98.

NFL - October 23, 2005: Went to the Redskins/49ers game at FedEx Field, and it was probably one of the worst days for me. Not only did my 49ers get trashed 52-17, but I pretty much got alot of shit from other Redskin fans. That, and hearing "Hail to the Redskins" song over and over made me leave at the end of the 3rd quarter.

NHL - November 23, 2005: Capitals vs. Lightning at the MCI Center. A friend of mine listens to the "Elliot in the Morning" radio show, and he managed to win 4 tickets for that night's game, in the skybox. So me, him, his girlfriend, and my brother went, and sat in the 'box along with 8 other people. Fun time, too bad the Caps blew a 3-1 lead and lost 4-3 after the shootout was over.

NBA - No games yet.
MLB - None yet.

NCAA Football - That's another story for another day.

Strick-- get thee to Camden Yards, son.

Check this out, did some "research" online and found out about my USFL game. Apparently, I saw Jim Kelly and the Houston Gamblers.

I know I'm breaking my own rules, but first NCAA football game I saw was in October 1989: Notre Dame (with Raghib Ismael) played at Air Force. Irish won.

I was gonna go to an Orioles game last year, but when they began their "Summer Suckfest", I decided not to even bother.
