"Throughout his school days, Kenta Kobashi dreamed of becoming a professional wrestler. The dream came true when he joined All Japan, debuting in February, 1988. He trained very hard to become a good wrestler, and by 1993, he was already one of the world's best. He evolved from being Mitsuharu Misawa's young disciple to one of Misawa's greatest rivals, winning the Triple Crown for the first time in 1996. His third reign was also All Japan's last before the much documented NOAH split, of which Kobashi was a major part. Years of hitting moonsaults from the top rope damaged Kobashi's knees seriously, and at the start of 2001, he took an extended leave of absence from wrestling, having countless surgeries on both knees. After an unsuccessful return to action in February, 2002, which re-injured him, he took more time off to fully recover. At last, in July, 2002, he made his full-time return after all the pain and hard work, and it took him only months to capture the GHC Heavyweight Title and become NOAH's leading man. Kenta Kobashi's fighting spirit and great energy have won him much fanfare over the years. He has fought in many epic matches, courageously wrestling through terrible injuries. His "burning spirit" billing is no character or gimmick, it's reality. Shortly after his return to puroresu from further knee surgery, Kobashi captured the GHC Heavyweight Title from Mitsuharu Misawa at the 3/13/03 Budokan show. With the title by his side, Kobashi was been a dominant champion. After holding the belt for over two years, Kobashi was finally defeated by Takeshi Rikio on the 3/5/05 Budokan show."

History: A graduate of the New Japan Wrestling Academy, Mutoh went into New Japan Pro Wrestling briefly as the White Ninja, then teamed with the Great Kabuki as the Rising Sons. Soon, Mutoh's trademark became his switching personalities. Without facial make-up, he wrestled as Mutoh. With the facial make-up, he became the insane rulebreaker known as the Great Muta.

Teaming with Shiro Koshinaka in March 1987, Mutoh claimed his first gold, winning over Akira Maeda and Nobuhiko Takada in a tournament final. The next week, Maeda and Takada won the rematch and the belts. In 1989, Mutoh came to the US and wrestled for a year with the NWA as the Great Muta. In September '89, he even beat Sting to win the NWA Television Title for a brief period of four months, before losing to Arn Anderson. Mutoh then mainly wrestled in Japan for the next couple of years.

In April '90, Mutoh and Chono defeated Masa Saito and Shinya Hashimoto for the IWGP Tag-Team Titles, Mutoh's second reign. The held the titles for about 7 months. Breaking with Chono, Mutoh began teaming with Hiroshi Hase and eventually won the Tag-Team belts a third time (with a third partner) over Rick Steiner and Scott Norton in November '91. The two then lost the belts to Big Van Vader and Bam Bam Bigelow in March '92.

After teaming some with Sting back in the states, the Great Muta returned to Japan with a vengence, defeating Riki Chosu for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title in August '92. Then, in January '93, Mutoh defeated his old friend Chono to win the NWA World Heavyweight Championship, uniting the two titles for a month before losing the NWA title to Barry Windham. He held the IWGP title until September, finally losing to Shinya Hashimoto after more than a year as the champion.

Mutoh continued his winning ways by being victorious in the '93 and '94 Super Grades, then teaming with Hase to win the IWGP Tag-Team Titles yet again. The two were champions for six months, then the titles were vacated, due to Mutoh defeating Shin'ya Hashimoto for the IWGP Heavyweight Title, his second reign. He held the championship for more than 8 months before finally losing to Nobuhiko Takada. Mutoh then became one of the main opposers of nWo Japan, despite Chono asking him to join. Yet, a month after defeating Chono in a major match, Mutoh, as the Great Muta, turned on Sonny Onoo in the US and joined the nWo Japan contingent, teaming with his old partner Chono.

After being a faithful wrestler with nWo Japan for a while, the Great Muta left the fold after a "misunderstanding" at the Three Gun Tag-Team Tournament. Soon after, however, Kejii Mutoh "joined" nWo Japan. Mutoh again teamed with Chono, and the two won the IWGP Tag-Team titles (Mutoh's 5th reign) in October '97. In April '98, Mutoh was forced to vacate the tag-team titles due to a serious knee injury. He had knee surgery to correct the problems, then appeared with Masa Chono on a Monday Nitro, defeating Alex Wright and the Disco Inferno.

On the 4th of January, 1999, the Great Muta defeated Scott "Flash" Norton to become the IWGP Champ for the 3rd time, 6 years to the day that he won the NWA Heavyweight Title, and 3 years to the day that his first IWGP Title reign ended. Mutoh would prove that he was still the best in the world, defending the title for almost a year against Norton, Don Frye, and most memorably, Manabu Nakanishi. At the end of '99, Mutoh was finally taken down by Gen'ichiro Tenryu, ending a great run. Through 2000, Mutoh would battle once again with his old nememis/partner, Chono. The two would battle numerous times during the first half of 2000, with Mutoh/Great Muta changing his personality more than once. Usually, however, Masa Chono came out on top. The Great Muta also got a chance to reclaim his IWGP Title in May, but lost to the champ, Power Warrior.

During the summer of '00, the Great Muta returned to his old stomping grounds in WCW. He joined up with Vampiro, the KISS Demon(briefly), & the Insane Clown Posse in their stable, while starting up a feud with the Commissioner of WCW, Ernest "The Cat" Miller. The two fought on and off for a few weeks, with both martial arts maneuvers and trickery, including Muta's green spray to the face. The two men fought at New Blood Rising '00. During the bout, Muta sprated his green mist into the Cat's face, but before he could take advantage, he was hit by a chair from Tygress. The Cat then came back and got his Feliner for the victory. Later that night, Muta came out with Vampiro during the Four-Way Tag-Team Title match, interfering with Kronik. Kronik still managed to win the match, but challenged the Great Muta & Vampiro to a battle later that night. Muta & Vampiro agreed, and the two teams met in another big brawl. This time, though, the interference worked for Muta, when the Harris brothers attacked Kronik. Muta & Vampiro used the opening to get the pin, becoming the tag-team champions. This lasted one night before Juventud Guerrera & Rey Mysterio Jr defeated them at Nitro.

The Great Muta & Vampiro then feuded with Sting, in a battle of painted faces. Sting had been badly burned by Vampiro at a summer PPV Inferno match, so he wore a mask during some of their encounters. Things also broke down between Muta & Vampiro, leading to their own feud. The three painted wrestlers met at Fall Brawl '00 in a Triangle match. At first Muta & Vampiro worked together against Sting. The partnership collapsed again, though, making it a true Three-Way match. During the fight, interference from the Insane Clown Posse backfired, allowing Sting to pin Muta. Vampiro, blaming Muta for the loss, attacked him along with the Posse. Sting came back to make the save. After a few more weeks, Muta again left WCW, heading back overseas.

So far in 2001, Keiji Mutoh has been the one wrestling in the NJPW, leaving the Great Muta (temporarily) behind. He also wrestled some with All Japan Pro Wrestling, and earned himself another title, defeating Genichiro Tenryu in June '01 to earn the coveted Triple Crown Title. Mutoh continues to wrestle in Japan, still getting the cheers and fanfare that he rarely received in the United States.

"We here at NWA Japan welcome with open arms one of the most exciting and charismatic superstars in wrestling history to our promotion in Keiji Mutoh."

In high school he practiced amateur wrestling, becoming a national champion in his senior year, defeating Keichi Yamada in the finals. He debuted in 1982 for All Japan Pro Wrestling, in a match against Hiromichi Fuyuki. Toshiaki Kawada was sent to North America for a year from November 1985. He had gained experience as a pro wrestler in Fred Behrend's Texas All-Star Wrestling (San Antonio, TX), Stu Hart's Stampede Wrestling (Calgary), and Frank Valois' International Wrestling (Montreal).

Kawada was billed as "Kio Kawata from Seoul, South Korea" in Stampede Wrestling for a very short time around June 1986. He was under adverse circumstances, and rarely has he talked about his days in American/Canadian wrestling.

In 1987 he joined his mentor Genichiro Tenryu's faction 'Revolution', which made him a breakout star. He reigned as All Asia Tag Team champion with Fuyuki three times, who had adopted the stage name Samson. In 1990 Tenryu left for Super World of Sports, which led Kawada to join Mitsuharu Misawa's stable. Kawada ended up winning the AJPW Unified World Tag Team championships with him twice.

In 1992 he formed a tag team with his former rival Akira Taue. They ended up holding the AJPW Unified World Tag Team championships together six times. He finally won the Triple Crown in 1994, when he beat Steve Williams. This title reign only lasted one 60 minute draw against Kenta Kobashi. In his second defense he lost the title to Stan Hansen.

In 1996 he publicly criticized AJPW's policy of not having interpromotional matches. New Japan Pro Wrestling was making big business at the time by having their workers wrestle for other promotions, and vice versa. He worked only one interpromotional match for UWF International (against Yoshihiro Takayama), but AJPW decided not to continue on this nor on the publicity Kawada had suddenly drawn.

His second Triple Crown victory came when he finally defeated Misawa for the title in 1998, in AJPW's first ever Tokyo Dome show. He had challenged Misawa for the title several times unsuccessfully. He was immediately defeated by Kobashi in his first title defence. In 1999 he faced Misawa again for the Triple Crown, who had won it from Kobashi. He defeated Misawa again (using the infamous Ganso Bomb in the process), but broke his arm during the match, and vacated the title the following day. He returned to action four months later, but was out action once again in three months because of an eye injury. He returned finally in January of 2000.

In mid-2000 most of AJPW's native wrestlers left with Misawa to his new promotion Pro Wrestling NOAH. Kawada was the only top star to stay, along with senior wrestler Masanobu Fuchi. Tenryu was brought back and AJPW signed a co-promotional deal with NJPW. This led to Kawada beating the IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Kensuke Sasaki on October 9, 2000. However, the title was not on the line.

In 2003, he won the Triple Crown for the fifth time. Kawada embarked on a magnificent reign that saw him make 10 title defenses (thus breaking Misawa's record of 8 defenses during his third reign) and 2004 became only the second year when the Triple Crown did not change hands. (The first was 1993, during Misawa's first reign.) In Misawa's era, the title was not defended during the Champion Carnival and World's Strongest Tag League tours, which were dedicated to their namesake tournaments. Kawada's reign restored dignity to the Triple Crown at the expense of the said tournaments.

Since losing the titles to Satoshi Kojima in February 2005, he's embarked on a tour of other major promotions, facing his old rival Mitsuharu Misawa in Pro Wrestling NOAH and competing in New Japan Pro Wrestling's prestigious G1 Climax tournament. Since then he has appeared for dragondoor, Dragon Gate, U-Style and perhaps most notably Pro Wrestling ZERO1-MAX where he wrestled against and tagged with young star Kohei Sato.

"We are VERY proud to announce that we have secured the services of one of the greatest professional wrestlers that has ever lived in Toshiaki Kawada. NWA Japan is very pleased and honored that such a great superstar wants to grace our rings with his talent."

Kenta Kobayashi was one of the last graduates of All Japan's dojo in 1999 before the historic NOAH split, of which he was a part. Hampered by injuries in the early stages of his career, Kobayashi added muscle to his frame and shook off the injury bug. After returning from an injury in July, 2001, he changed his name to simply KENTA, perhaps because of his real name's likeness to that of his mentor, Kenta Kobashi. He made quick progress as a wrestler, refining his style and image until he became one of the most exceptional young combatants in wrestling. A very athletic and skilled junior heavyweight, KENTA combines high-flying with some deadly strikes, and has already gained a big fan following (particularly with female fans!). 2003 was a big year for KENTA as he, alongside his partner Naomichi Marufuji, became the first winners of the GHC Jr. Heavyweight Titles after they defeated Jushin 'Thunder' Liger & Takehiro Murahama in the finals of the title tournament. KENTA continued to make waves in NOAH in 2004 when he embarked on a 7 match singles trial, where he was a more than credible opponent for such heavyweights as Yoshihiro Takayama, Jun Akiyama, Mitsuharu Misawa and Kenta Kobashi. The future looks bright for KENTA.

QUOTE
An amaresu combatant during his school days in Saitama, Marufuji competed in inter-high school championships. He decided to become a professional wrestler, and joined All Japan, showing glimpses of future greatness early in his career with a high risk style. After the NOAH split, Marufuji truly broke out as a young junior heavyweight superstar, debuting a new costume, and becoming a spectacular high-flyer. He won great popularity, and became a leader of NOAH's upstart junior heavyweight division. One of NOAH's biggest hopes for the future, Marufuji will be counted on to help lead the company one day. Alongside KENTA, Marufuji captured the GHC Jr. Tag Championship belts in a tournament to crown the first champions during the month of July 2003. Marufuji followed up this success in sensational fashion when he became the 2004 Super J Cup champion, beating Takehiro Murahama in February 2004 for the honor.

"We are very proud to bring to NWA Japan such great young superstars. Not only do we want to bring already established veterans into our company, but we are also concerned with bringing in the best young talent that the wrestling world has to offer. We are very aware that this business is something that has been handed down through years and years of tradition.................and NWA Japan is certainly going to be a part of this tradition for years to come with great superstars such as KENTA and Naomichi Marafuji."

"We here at NWA Japan are pleased to announced that we have secured the services of Japanese legend Akira Taue."

QUOTE
Taue debuted amidst much hype, teaming with the legendary Giant Baba in his first match. He was a very uneasy wrestler at first, but another legend, Jumbo Tsuruta, gave him advice. He became one of All Japan's top stars, gaining huge popularity and acceptance from the All Japan fans. Although he did reign once as the Triple Crown Champion, his main success came in tag matches, and he formed one of the greatest and most successful tag teams in history with Toshiaki Kawada, the two winning many championships. They were separated after the NOAH split, Kawada opting to stay with All Japan, while Taue followed all but two natives to form NOAH with Mitsuharu Misawa. Taue is currently part of a very successful tagteam with Takuma Sano. Although he has little speed, Taue's technique and style have contributed to some of the best matches ever seen, and he always displays the charm of professional wrestling.

"We are happy to announce that we have just signed former Pro Wrestling NOAH tag team champion Akitoshi Saito"

QUOTE
After spending much of his early career in W*ING, Akitoshi Saito joined New Japan, where he was part of Shiro Koshinaka's Heisei Ishingun group. He left New Japan in 1998, and in late 2000, after a couple of years of inactivity, he appeared in NOAH, along with former HI member, Masashi Aoyagi. In 2001, he began obtaining success like never before and became Jun Akiyama's second-in-command in STERNNESS, winning his first championship when he and Akiyama captured the GHC Tag Team Title in September, 2002. Now a high ranking wrestler in NOAH, Saito utilizes martial arts techniques, throwing deadly kicks and using a timed enzuigiri named the Sickle of Death as his finisher. Saito had a big 2004 where he formed the Dark Agents stable with Takashi Sugiura, Masao Inoue and later Shiro Koshinaka joining him as members of the stable. Saito also made an unsuccessful challenge for the GHC Heavyweight title in 2004.

Mike Tenay: Welcome everyone to the very first episode of NWA Japan's Ichiban TV!!!!!! We have Japanese wrestling legend Geniciro Tenryu in the ring. I'm here with my broadcast colliegue some know him as the editor in chief of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.......DAVE MELTZER. Welcome to the show Dave....

Da Meltz: Thank you Mike. Glad to be here.

Tenay: Let's see what Tenryu has to say....

Tenryu: Kenta Kobashi Tonight me and you will face each other in the main event of the first NWA
Japan show ever. YOU will fall to the feet of Tenryuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

DM: WOW, I sure wasn’t expecting this to start out the show......

Tenay: I would have to agree Dave, but I will admit that Tenryu is a veteran of this sport and he’s certainly doing it for a reason

Kobashi's music hits

DM: It looks like Kobashi is going to answer the challenge right now

Tenay: Kobashi runs to the ring and they are going toe to toe. Kobashi laying in chops and Tenryu fighting back with forearms This one’s heating up early

DM: Both men are fighting to the locker room

(46)

Tenay: We’ll try and get some camera’s back there immediately

Tenay: Ladies and Gentleman I can’t believe what we just saw there between tonight’s main event participants Kenta Kobashi and Genichiro Tenryu.

DM: Tell me about it Mike, I’m shocked here too. It looks like there is more to this one than just a simple main event challenge

Tenay: Well, we’ll keep tabs on it as the night goes on, but now it’s time for the first matchup in NWA JAPAN history between rookie sensation Go Shiozaki and former New Japan star Hiroyoshi Tenzan

DM: That’s right Mike. This is a first time matchup between two guys who have never even been in the same company before. Go is a solid performer, he’s been trained by the gentleman that we saw answer the challenge earlier tonight in Kenta Kobashi in their Pro Wrestling NOAH days. Tenzan kind of speaks for himself though. He’s practically done everything that you could imagine in his New Japan Pro Wrestling Days. He was a former multiple time IWGP title holder and a former IWGP Tag Team Champion as well. I can’t wait to see how this one shapes up Mike.

Tenay: Let’s get down to the ring where both competitors are ready to do battle.

DM: There’s the bell.

DM: Good strategy by Go there working on a body part.

Tenay: Go missed the legdrop to the leg, Tenzan is up

DM: WOW, look at that jawbreaker Mike, he destroyed him there

Tenay: Go really looks out of it there Dave. He got him good. Go running at Tenzan...........FLAPJACK

DM: He’s going for the anaconda vice early

Tenay: He can quite get it in, they are both fighting..........Go has to get back on his feet now.....

DM: TENZAN GOT IT LOCKED IN

Tenay: Go taps to the Anaconda Vice. WOW, Tenzan looked really strong in that contest Dave.

DM: He sure did Mike, I’m really surprised here. I guess Tenzan wanted to make a strong impression with his first NWA Japan match.

Tenay: That’s right Dave, and you have to especially with the NWA Japan officials on hand. Especially knowing that they are watching closely to find entrants into the first every NWA JAPAN World title tournament that we’ll be talking about over the next few weeks. Stay tuned folks, we’ll be right back

Tenay: Ladies and gentleman we are about to make wrestling history. We are having our very first matchup in the Jr Heavyweight title tournament. Dave, this one is gonna be a great contest.

DM: It sure is Mike. These two guys are certainly two of the better Jr’s in the world right now. TAKA Michinoku has a long standing legacy here in Japan as one of the Juniors that actually had a career in the US. He was a member of the WWF/WWE roster for years and was always a major player in the WWE’s Light heavyweight division. Kaz Hayashi wrestled in WCW before it’s closing but wasn’t really in his prime there as he is now. This one is gonna be a good one Professor.

Tenay: We have both guys in the ring and we are ready to go. Kaz uses a basement dropkick to the knee. Spinning bulldog in the corner, TAKA is down. Pinfall attempt, one, two, no!

DM: That was VERY close Mike, I hope TAKA isn’t taking Kaz lightly here.

Tenay: HAYASHI MISSES THE TOP ROPE CLOTHESLINE. TAKA stalking him as he gets up…………standing leg lariot.

DM: Now Taka is making his way upstairs. WOW, what a elbow drop.

Tenay: Pinfall attempt………one, two,……………two and three fourths!

DM: Wow Mike, these guys are REALLY going at it here. I’m surprised to see them go this pace to start.

Tenay: Kaz seems to be really hurt on the ground as TAKA heads to the top rope again. DIVING HEADBUTT!!!!!!!!! One, two, KAZ JUST GETS THE SHOULDER UP.

DM: I thought TAKA was moving on there professor. Nice spinkick by TAKA. He’s really dominating here Mike.

Tenay: TAKA walks into a trip. Kaz now going up top…………flying cross body by Kaz………..one, two, NO! Kaz going to the second rope now, back heel kick. Goes for the cover. One, Two, almost three!

DM: Tons of near falls here, both of these guys want to win this tournament and it’s showing in the first match. If this is any indication Mike, we are gonna have one UNREAL tournament here.

Tenay: They cut that one close Dave. Now Kaz going for a flying elbow of his own. HITS IT!

DM: Kaz hitting a standing leg lariot of his own!

Tenay: Kaz misses the clothesline, flying elbow off of the ropes by TAKA. Now Taka taking over the match here. FACE JAM on Kaz Hayashi. THAT WAS VICIOUS.

DM: Kaz can barely stand Mike.

Tenay: Here it comes! MICHINOKU DRIVER!!!!!!! ONE……..TWO………THREE. WE HAVE A WINNER.

DM: That’s right folks, moving on to the second round………TAKA Michinoku.

Tenay: Kaz looks upset. But he’s offering a handshake to TAKA.

DM: This is what it’s all about Tenay.

Tenay: TAKA spits in his face and is walking off. The nerve of TAKA Michinoku.

DM: That was awful Mike. I can’t believe he’d do that after that wonderful contest they just had. He has no respect for anyone.

DM: Sure, this one is surely to be a battle for the ages. These two have somehow avoided one another for the last 15 years and tonight…..it’s coming to a head. Kobashi, what hasn’t already been said Mike. He could be the greatest professional wrestler ever to come out of Japan. Even if he’s not…………..he’s in the same breath with EVERYONE. He’s held the Triple Crown on several occasions. He had the longest run of any GHC champion before NOAH was defunct. He’s one of the greatest wrestlers of all time. Then we have Genichiro Tenryu. He’s beaten the best of the best. He holds wins over legends like the late great Jumbo Tsuruta and Stan Hansen, two guys Kobashi never faired good against. He’s also held the Triple Crown Championship several times as well. Bottom line is, Mike………….we’re in for an amazing encounter.

Tenay: We sure are Dave. Both legends are in the ring and ready to go. Tenryu slams Kobashi down. Picks up Kobashi powerslam by Tenryu. Cover 1....2...kick out. These two are starting off strong.

DM: Kobashi kicks Genichiro Tenryu in the gut to reverse the momentum. Kobashi is the type of wrestler that if you face him, you better be ready to take some punishment.

Tenay: Kenta Kobashi uses a forearm to the face. Kenta Kobashi with a spinning neckbreaker on Tenryu. Hooks the leg : 1....2....shoulder up. Dave you sure weren’t lying about that. Kobashi’s offense here looks strong enough to beat anyone.

DM: Oh, it is Iron Mike. It is.

Tenay: Side suplex from Kobashi. Hooks the leg : 1....2....shoulder up That was close. Kobashi setting up here for something……Fallaway slam!!!!!!!

DM: Kobashi gets taken down out of nowhere.

Tenay: Looks like Tenryu is going to the ropes……he’s stalking Kobashi……BULLDOG! Pin attempt…..1……..2……..almost 3. That was close.

DM: Tornado punch from Genichiro Tenryu. Hooks the leg : 1....2....shoulder up……what a contest here Iron Mike.

Tenay: Back elbow connects, Kobashi staggers backward. Kobashi takes a headbutt from Genichiro Tenryu. Kobashi blocks a punch. Big clothesline on Tenryu. Massive lariat. I think it’s safe to say that Tenryu is in serious trouble here!

DM: Very safe Iron Mike.
Tenay: Wait a minute………….what’s Kobashi doing………….ORANGE CRUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1....2....3. Kobashi is our first main event winner here in NWA Japan.

DM: Wait a minute Mike……The fight is continuing.

Tenay: Tenryu attacks Kobashi, they are fightin all around the ringside!!!!!!!

DM: Looks like this one is going to continue backstage!!!!!!

Winner - Kenta Kobashi (64/54/75)
Match Time 34:12
Rating - **1/2

Tenay: Well folks, that’s our first show…..I’m Mike Tenay for Dave Melzer…….SEE YA NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!!!

Thanks. Although I was a bit dissappointed by my ratings......

I like your decision to go with the play by play style of match presentation. It isn't the easiest read, but it is different, unique, and a nice realistic way to display your matches.

Also, I feel for you trying to get these guys over. The crowd is just shitting on you, but at least you're pulling some nice Match Quality to boost up those overalls. It'll be a long road, but should make for some nice wrestling.

And how are you disapointed with ratings? The potential audience is 2.17, and you pulled them all.

I should have clarified myself. I was dissappointed in the ratings as far as the Crowd reaction and whatnot. I was VERY pleased with the show rating though.....

I like the style for your shows. While some people do use PBP, you don't abuse it with 60 paragraphs for one match, making it a chore to read through.

Last weeks NWA Japan debut was a stunning success pulling a 2.17 in the ratings.  They pulled out two junior tournament matches with Justin Liger going over SUWA and TAKA Michinoku going over on Kaz Hayashi.  They opened the show with Go Shiosaki (formerly of Pro Wrestling NOAH) vs. Hiroyshi Tenzan in a match that went less than 5 minutes.  Tenzan seems to be like he could be trying to impress the NWAJ Championship committee to get into NWA Japan Heavyweight title tournament.  I've also heard that there is going to be a HUGE announcement this week on Ichiban TV about said tournament.  The main event of the show was Tenryu/Kobashi encouter that was a pure fight.  Both men beat the living hell out of each other and even after Kobashi won with the Orange Crush, Tenryu still managed to battle back and the two fought back to the dressing area.  Tenryu at 54 years old may be the best 54 year old wrestler of all time.  AMAZING.  It's going to be interesting to see what happens with his being "suspended" from the championship tournament this week coming up too.

I've also heard that NWA Japan could be bringing out some big guns for this weeks show as well.  The only name so far that I've actually heard though is Keiji Mutoh.  Although I haven't heard his name mentioned, I think that Kawada will probably be brought in soon as well.

Also I've heard of another match for this weeks Ichiban TV show being Takao Omori taking on Akira Taue.

This week on Ichiban TV we are going to have 2 more opening round contests in the Junior Heavyweight title tournament.  You'll see Noamichi Marafuji vs. Ikuda Hidaka and KENTA vs. Tiger Mask IV.  We have also signed a contest between two grapplers who've never been in there together as Takao Omori squares off against Akira Taue.

We understand that Genichiro Tenryu is FURIOUS over the decision of the NWA Japan Championship committee to "suspend" him from the Championship tournament.  Will he show up on Ichiban TV?

Also, Mike Tenay is going to interview Kenta Kobashi about the attack after the match by Tenryu last week.  It's going to be very interesting to see what the former Triple Crown and GHC title holder has to say about all of this.

Also, we here at NWA Japan are pleased to announce that because of the success that we had in our ratings last week for our debut show we are doing something for our fans.  We are encouraging our fans to either head over to NWAJ.com or call the official NWA Japan hotline at 1-888-99-NWAJ (toll free) and you will get to voice your opinions.  You will get to vote on the participants in our dream match this week and we will announce the winners of the fans votes this Friday.....the day before NWAJ Ichiban TV airs.

Well, we've tallied all of the votes of the NWA Japan fans for our main event this week on Ichiban TV.  We'd like to personally thank all of the fans that took part and voted, we certainly hope that you enjoy the result this weekend.  In a unanimous decision the fans have voted that they would like to see Kenta Kobashi face off with Genichiro Tenryu once again.  After last week, who knows what to expect but we are sure this one is going to be something that you won't want to miss.

We've also recieved word that the NWA Japan Competition committee weren't too pleased about this.  There is word that they may issue some sort of written annoucement about this issue.  We are unclear however if it will be before Itchiban TV or not.  The committee has guaranteed that the match WILL happen we do not know what the comittee is planning to do, but NWAJ.com will continue the updates as they come in.

Show starts with Mike Tenay and Dave Meltzer in the ring.....

Tenay - Ladies and Gentleman welcome to Ichiban TV here on the Superstation!  We have a lot to get into but first I must read the written statement from the NWA Japan Competition Committee.  “Dear NWA Japan fans.  We here at NWA Japan give our best to make sure the fans of our great organization are on the same page with us, and we are on the same page as them.  This past week, we had a vote on our hotline and our website for the fans to vote for this weeks main event and the results was unanimous.  YOU the NWA Japan asked us to do a rematch of the Kenta Kobashi/Genichiro Tenryu match from our very first episode of Ichiban TV.  We are happy to announce that no only is this match signed sealed and delivered tonight...........but it’ll be LAST MAN STANDING.  We hope to see better sportsmanship on the part of Genichiro Tenryu and hopefully we do NOT have a problem after the match this week like we did during their first match up.  Thank you”

Dave Meltzer - Well there you have it folks, you have our main event being a Last Man Standing match up between Kobashi/Tenryu, we have Tiger Mask IV taking on KENTA, also Marafuji is facing off in the jr heavyweight title tournament as well against Ikuda Hidaka.  We also have a first time match up between Takao Omori vs. Akira Taue.  This is going to be a great night of action.

Tenay - It sure is Dave.  Fans at home......lets go backstage right now where Kenta Kobashi is standing by......

Kenta Kobashi is backstage.

Kobashi - Tenryu!  You think what you did to me last week is just going to stand?  You think I’m going to let that go?  You’ve got another thing coming if you do.  I am a world championship caliber athlete and I will not let ANYONE intimidate me.  See you later tonight Tenryu......I WILL be the LAST MAN STANDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Overall - 48

Tenay - WOW, Kobashi looks ready for tonight, but we have our first two participants here tonight in the ring with Tiger Mask IV facing off against KENTA in one of our two Junior Heavyweight title tournament matches tonight!

A video is played, hyping the upcoming Akira Taue vs Takao Omori match.

Overall - 40%

Tenay - Folks we have another great contest for you with the legendary Akira Taue taking on Japanese superstar Takao Omori.  Anything to add there Dave?

DM - Sure Iron Mike.  Akira Taue has been a major player on the Japanese wrestling scene for years.  He’s well remembered for his matches with then partner Kawada in the All Japan Pro Wrestling’s Real World Tag League Tournaments, he’s wrestled the best in the world and is a former AJPW Triple Crown Champion and Pro Wrestling NOAH GHC titleholder as well.  I guarantee you that the competition committee is looking at this match for consideration for seeding in the NWA Japan Heavyweight title tournament.  Omori on the other hand has held tag titles all over Japan and pretty much has mastered tag team wrestling.  He’s no one to look past though as he’s younger and certainly faster than Taue here.  This one’s gonna be interesting Iron Mike.

Tenay - Well both combatants are in the ring...........lets get this one going!

DM - Nice slam there by Taue on Omori to start this one.

Tenay - Back drop there by Omori out of the Taue piledriver attempt.  Taue is taking some punishing forearms here.  WOW.

DM - Those are brutal to say the least Iron Mike.

Tenay - They sure are.  A normal man would have been out of it by now.  OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!  The referee was accidentally caught with one of those elbows to the face by Taue!

DM - Omori looking to get back on the offensive.....

Tenay - Omori runs Taue inside out with a clothesline.  There’s no ref to count....he’s still out of it.  Taue reverses the hammerlock there by Omori, RUDE AWAKENING style neckbreaker!!!!!!!

DM - Taue hits a beautiful bulldog off the ropes here.......one......two.......he got the shoulder up!

Tenay -  Omori walks into a side choke slam. Hooks the leg : 1....2....shoulder up! That was extremely close there.  Omori counters an arm wringer with an elbow to the side of the head. Big clothesline from Omori. Cover! 1....2....kick out at the last second! Omori looks shocked. Taue blocks a suplex attempt. Takao Omori is in trouble. Here it comes  Dynamic Bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DM- 1....2...3.......it’s over!!!!!

Tenay -  Akira Taue extends his hand to Omori...and it is accepted! They shake! What a great sign of sportsmanship here Dave.

DM - It sure is refreshing to see that after the way that Tenryu is acting around here lately.

Winner - Akira Taue (64/46/82)

Tenay - Now it’s time for the final first round match up here in the NWA Japan Junior Heavyweight title tournament.

DM- That’s right Iron Mike.  We have two of the best in the world right now with Naomichi Marafuji taking on Ikudo Hidaka.  Let’s get this one going.

Tenay - Second rope flying axe handle, Marufuji goes down. Hidaka going up!  Flying elbow off the top rope by Ikuto. Cover! 1....2...kick out.

DM - Marufuji pushes out of a Nerve hold. Marufuji hits a massive spinning kick to the jaw. Hidaka takes a flying neckbreaker from Naomichi Marufuji. Marafuji is so quick and agile.

DM - Cover! 1....2...kick out. Flying knee to the face from Marufuji. Hooks the leg : 1....2....shoulder up! That was very close.

Tenay - Marufuji hits a rolling kick on Hidaka. Hidaka pushes out of a Naomichi Marufuji hold. Flying cross body off the top rope! Hooks the leg : 1....2....shoulder up. These two are going at an insane pace!

DM - Ikuto Hidaka with an enziguri. He caught him good.

Tenay - Pin : 1....2....kick out! A split-second away from a three. Hard back suplex on Marufuji. Hidaka hits a massive spinning kick to the jaw. Marufuji reverses a Ikuto Hidaka hammerlock. Spin kick by Naomichi Marufuji to the face. Marufuji face jams Ikuto Hidaka. Ikuto Hidaka is in trouble. Shiranui! 1....2....3.

Expect to see a semifinal match this week in KENTA taking on TAKA Michinoku.

There will be some sort of an announcement this week (we do NOT know however if it will be before Ichiban TV or not) on the NWA Japan Heavyweight title tournament.  I would expect them to either announce the format of the tourament or maybe even some participants.

NWAJ.com has just learned of the first participants named in the NWA Japan Heavyweight title tournament.  Also, NWA Japan wants this to be the cream of the crop in the wrestling industry to be in the tournament.  They have created something to make it more interesting as well.  Every participant of this tournament will have had to have held a WORLD title (Titles that would be sufficient include, AJPW's Triple Crown Championship, NOAH's GHC championship, IWGP championship, WWE/WWF Championship, WCW World Championship etc) to be included in the tournament.  BUT, if you haven't you can still be in the tournament with a win in a qualifing match.

So far here are the participants that have been named to NWAJ.com in no particular order.....

Keiji Mutoh
Mitsuharu Misawa
Kensuke Sasaki

Tenay: IT’S KAWADA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The crowd is going crazy and I know that Kobashi isn’t happy about this. Kawada and Kobashi have faced off several times years ago in the All Japan Promotion.

DM: There was always competition between these two as they came up around the same time in AJPW and this one is gonna be UNREAL. I can’t wait to see who Kobashi’s partner is………

Tenay: Who is it?

DM: IT’S MITSUHARU MISAWA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tenay: That’s unbelievable.

DM: That’s the perfect partner for Kobashi. Kawada has always had a hardtime in his career beating Misawa and I don’t think that Misawa and Tenryu have actually EVER been in there together. This couldn’t have been better Iron Mike.

Tenay: Mitsuharu Misawa strikes Kawada! They both look like they want to kill each other. Kawada walks into a spinning heel kick. Hooks the leg : 1....2....shoulder up.

DM: Toshiaki Kawada reverses a hip toss. Bodyslam by Kawada. Hard slam by Kawada. Kawada tags out to Genichiro Tenryu.

Tenay: Genichiro Tenryu with a standing spinebuster. Misawa blocks a kick from Genichiro Tenryu. Misawa tags out to Kenta Kobashi. Now we’re talking!!!!!

DM: Tenryu gets slammed. Big clothesline on Tenryu. Cover!

Tenay: 1....2...kick out. Almost. Hard slam by Kobashi. Tag to Mitsuharu Misawa.

DM: Mitsuharu Misawa with an enziguri.

Tenay: Pinfall attempt 1....2....no! They cut that one close.
Tenryu pushes out of a Mitsuharu Misawa hold.

DM: Rude Awakening on Mitsuharu Misawa by Tenryu. Tenryu tags out to Toshiaki Kawada.

Tenay: Running knee lift from Toshiaki Kawada. Mitsuharu Misawa is in trouble.

DM: Dangerous Backdrop Driver!!! That shook the ring.

Tenay: 1....2....3!! They’ve won!!!!!

DM: What the hell?! Masahiro Chono comes running down the aisle, and gets into the ring!

Tenay: Masahiro Chono spins Misawa around. Masahiro Chono hits the Shining Yakuza Kick! Mitsuharu Misawa has been left down on the canvas!!!!!!!! CHONO IS BACK!!!!!!!! We’ll see you next week, for Dave Meltzer I’m Mike Tenay………see ya next week!!!!!!

The NWA Japan Championship Committee has come to the decision that Masahiro Chono will be suspended from participating in the NWA Japan Heavyweight Championship tournament.  We will be replacing him with another superstar from another branch of the NWA.  As soon as more details are available we here at NWAJ.com will pass them along.  Thanks.
