After a good couple of years of rumors, it's finally going to happen: the WWE is going to release The History of the WWE Championship. WWE.com posted a poll where the top matches will be picked to put on the DVD. If you put your mouse over each tab, it gives information about each match before you choose it.

Fuck this, I have almost every match from the 80's through present, and the ones I don't have I wouldn't waste $40 on a DVD set for.
jamiegeist - April 14, 2006 03:27 AM (GMT)
How bout they release it all as a best of set. And Mankind v Rock Empty Arena match? Nigga please. Thats rediculous.
prof_plague - April 14, 2006 03:28 AM (GMT)
Damn Scrooge, you beat me to it. That was one of my points, although all of the matches are great, a lot of these have been released on DVD sets already. I was hoping for more old schoo matches on these disks.
SamoaRowe - April 14, 2006 03:29 AM (GMT)
If WWE really wanted my money, they would do a "Best of WWE: 2000-2001."
prof_plague - April 14, 2006 04:06 AM (GMT)
You already have Best of 2000 on VHS.

Yeah, but it's only five matches. Imagine a dvd where they included the top matches from the other pay-per-views, as well as some of the great tv main events they had along the way.
Real F'n Show - April 14, 2006 02:16 PM (GMT)
Backlund/Race better make this set...
dynamite kido - April 14, 2006 02:19 PM (GMT)
I could make a DVD set that would shit all over this..............70's and ALL.
prof_plague - April 14, 2006 05:51 PM (GMT)
I still think they shuold come out with a DVD set for something along the lines of "Founding Father of Wrestling" and try to get some footage with Buddy Rodgers, Bruno Sammartino, Ivan Koloff, Lou Thesz, Bobo Brazil, Ernie Ladd, The Sheik, Freddie Blassie, Gorilla Monsoon, Verne Gagne, etc. - and have the documentary part go as foar back as possible, and should especially cover the Frank Gotch/George Hackenschmidt feud.
They should also do a DVD set of "The Greatest Wrestling Stars of the 70s and cover Graham, Andre, Backlund (even though Andre and Backlund should have their own sets), Chief Jay Strongbow, and a ton of people of forgetting.

Plague, no offense, but keep dreaming. WWE isn't going to put out a set for guys like Backlund any time soon.
1. It wouldn't entice current fans who've barely seen him. At all. So there goes about 80% of the potential sales.
2. The guy is fucking nuts.

It didn't stop them from putting out Hogan's stuff though did it?
jamiegeist - April 14, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
Kido, is your ass doin DWB: TNA or not?

Nonetheless, doesn't the guy deserve a DVD set? I mena, most new fans don't know Sammartino, but he should have a DVD set. It might not sell younger with people our age, but you'd get people who don't even watch wrestling anymore but are nostalgic for it.
Scrooge McSuck - April 15, 2006 02:49 AM (GMT)
Vince and Co. don't give a damn about what people want. They put out what will make them a lot of money, and I would be surprised if a Bob Backlund or Bruno Sammartino DVD set will sell in this day.
(cries there's no Kane Anthology set)
prof_plague - April 15, 2006 08:08 PM (GMT)
I think a 'founding fathers of wrestling' set would sell, or "Stars of the 70s" also would.
Scrooge McSuck - April 15, 2006 08:16 PM (GMT)
I don't know... I should really hold judgment until we find out how well (or bad) the Billy Graham DVD sold. It's the perfect example since he was a big star in the 70's, and hasn't really been in the wrestling spotlight since the late 80's.
SamoaRowe - April 16, 2006 01:41 AM (GMT)
I've been flirting with buying the Billy Graham dvd, it's just that I don't have much money :(
That, and I'm going to want to buy Wrestlemania 22 in a few weeks anyways.
Scrooge McSuck - April 16, 2006 01:43 AM (GMT)
Ditto. I'm interested in Billy Graham's story, but have zero interest in watching the matches.
And WM 22 DVD will most likely have the Hall of Fame ceremony.

That's what I'm counting on. It may or may not have been officially announced yet.

I'm the opposite. I'm interested in the matches, but there's only a few on the DVD. Although I am interested in the Graham's story, I've already bought his book.
Scrooge McSuck - April 16, 2006 05:05 AM (GMT)
I didn't buy his book, so HUZZAH!
jamiegeist - April 16, 2006 07:25 AM (GMT)
Huzzah about what? You didn't buy his book. Did that really qualify for Nine thosand, six hundred and sixty first post? I highly doubt it.
This DVD set should be marvelous, even if you, me, DK, and their dog can make a better one. Whoopty fuckin doo. You try putting out a DVD, and we'll see how well it sells as opposed to WWE.
Way to shit on the silver lining, once again, almighty.
S.T. Strickler - April 16, 2006 03:43 PM (GMT)
The WM22 DVD set will have the HOF on it.

They'd out sell my set in a second. Hey, I never said wrestling fans were smart.
Scrooge McSuck - April 16, 2006 08:08 PM (GMT)
Hey!
And give me the marketing machine and name recognition that WWE has, and then I'll answer that. Still doesn't mean I have to waste $40 on a DVD set featuring matches I already have on tape, and in many cases, several tapes.
