Title: ECW PPV Discussion Thread
Description: since it sounds like it's going down...
Real F'n Show - January 6, 2005 04:44 AM (GMT)
Keep all discussion concerning the ECW PPV scheduled for June in here. Also, please share any ideas or potential cards you may have.
Apparently The Sandman turned down an offer to be a part of it, citing he doesn't want to be involved with the politics...

I just love how he said "Not a chance". I'm sure if you got him drunk enough, you can trick him into have his penis cut off and surgically put behind his left knee. People can call him Kneedick.
OK, seriously... this PPV has disastor written all over it. Can anyone suffer listing ECW guys in WWE and that still wrestle on a (somewhat) regular basis?
Real F'n Show - January 6, 2005 04:52 AM (GMT)
Off the top of my head:
RVD
Dudleyz
Rhyno
Tajiri
Stevie Richards
Nunzio
Simon Dean
Rey
Benoit
Eddie
Jericho
Yeah...
Scrooge McSuck - January 6, 2005 04:55 AM (GMT)
What a lame roster... I doubt ANYONE will every think back to the ECW careers of Jericho, Eddie, and Benoit if someone said "hey, you ever heard of so-and-so".
Steven Richards & Simon Dean could team up if they aknowledged that S.D. is really Nova. Maybe book Blue Meanie for a bWo reunion.
Rob Van Dam vs. (if he is able to compete) Tommy Dreamer could be awesome.
Dean Malenko (if in good enough physical shape) wrestling either Benoit or Eddie would own everything.
Uh... Tajiri vs. Nunzio maybe.
The Dudleyz vs.... oh screw it. Maybe against the bWo?

Apparently WWE's thinking about bringing in Super Crazy full-time as part of the cruiserweight division. If this goes through, I'd expect he'd be on the show as well.
| QUOTE |
| Today on Dave Scherer's Elite audio hotline he reported that their were interest in bringing Super Crazy next month to expand the Cruiserweight division even more, officials close to Crazy noted that he was reluctant about the interest at the moment because he's working with an injured hand which could hurt his first impressions with the company and lose all potentional hope of every being used correctly by the company." |

Will Super Crazy become the next Ultimo Dragon? Signed with high expectations, but then everyone (Vince) realized he isn't what he wanted (a watered down worker) and then depushed 2 weeks later by jobbing to Funaki?

This PPV is going to be a big mistake. As much as I loved ECW, this thing cannot be done right. You either have ECW guys left that are somewhere eating out of a garbage can, of you have the shadows of the rest of them that currently work for the WWF. Sometimes Vince does these kinds of things. Who is going to buy this? Do they think that the 40,000 or so who bought the ECW DVDs will? Even if all of them do, the PPV will still be a disaster. Why not just capitalize on another Volume of an ECW DVD instead of making an entire PPV devoted to a company that maybe 1/8 of your fanbase watched at one time? Its very easy to turn out another DVD.
I could be wrong though. Heck if they are going to have it at some bingo hall or ballroom, perhaps they are just going to do it with minimal everything like ECW did and just have a few ceiling fans in there with a some flashlights for production.

1/8th is probably stretching it too. A lot of WWE fans are casual viewers who probably don't even know other promotions exist. I'd say about 1/16th, but if we're going by "Smart fans", the heavy majority have heard or have watched ECW at least once.
TehDoct0r - January 6, 2005 08:51 PM (GMT)
Even a lot of the smart marks didn't get into ECW till it was already dead. So I really can't imagine this popping much of a buyrate.
Scrooge McSuck - January 6, 2005 08:58 PM (GMT)
Good point. I never watched an ECW match until AFTER the promotion folded. (unless you count the Monday Night Raw from February 1997 where they had ECW people on it, which I don't because I wasn't watching ECW, I was watching WWF.
99% of the stuff I've seen has been of Cactus Jack, thanks to the ECW DVD of him and the WWE DVD of him recently.

Just a note on this......don't compare Ultimo's situation to what could happen to Crazy. Considering that Crazy is a mediocre worker that was much better years ago to someone that could be looked at by many as one of the greatest jr's of all time.
Scrooge McSuck - January 6, 2005 10:47 PM (GMT)
Just trying to say I hope they don't screw someone over 2 weeks into their run in the company.
Ultimo Dragon >>>>>>>>> Every Cruiserweight in WWE.

This goes under "don't give a rat's ass" for me.

Right now? He's past his prime. I'd say Mysterio is still better, although Mysterio's past his prime as well.
Dragon in his prime was about the same level of worker as Mysterio in his prime.
Mysterio now is better than Dragon now.
Scrooge McSuck - January 6, 2005 11:54 PM (GMT)
In Ultimo's prime I mean. Hell, I still enjoyed him more than anyone in an entertainment factor. He kept a quick pace in his matches and hardly slowed down. Sure, he was a bit too loose with his delivery, but that's not a bad thing considering he wrestled Velocity every week and thus no one noticed.
Rey Jr. is way too repetitive and really hasn't shown anything that made him awesome in WCW. All he does is the 619, which is a silly move IMO.
TehDoct0r - January 7, 2005 03:30 AM (GMT)
I dug Rey vs Eddie tonight. :D
Mad Dog - January 7, 2005 04:30 PM (GMT)
I don't know why they're bothering. ECW was terrible during it's last 2 years and even before that they were never anything resembling good after 1996 or so.
Scrooge McSuck - January 7, 2005 04:39 PM (GMT)
Milk the gravy train as much as possible. A Bunch of sheep bought the DVD, so now Vince is expecting the same sheep to buy their shit.
