RANDY ORTON SUSPENDED BY WWE by Mike Johnson @ 5:28:00 PM on 4/4/2006
Although details are still sketchy at this time, PWInsider.com has learned that World Wrestling Entertainment has suspended Randy Orton for 60 days. I'm not yet sure of the reason, but I hope to have more on this story later today. |
| QUOTE |
5:40 PM Update: WWE issued a text message via their mobile service confirming the story, citing that Orton had been suspended for "unprofessional conduct."
It should be interesting to see what WWE does at tonight's Smackdown taping as Orton had been advertised in the main event, challenging WWE World champion Rey Mysterio.

"Unprofessional Conduct" probably translates into "tested positive for steroids."
Or maybe he broke a pot during WrestleMania Weekend.
dynamite kido - April 4, 2006 11:12 PM (GMT)
Gotta love when a company says "unprofessional conduct" you know they don't mean, shitting in someone's bags. Because that's totally acceptable conduct.
D.A.V.E. - April 4, 2006 11:19 PM (GMT)
So, is he working the tapings and doing an injury angle or what? Either way this is fishy. And a suspension? Jesus just fire the guy. Not like there's no other guys who could fill his spot.
Orton - I liked his promos - hated him in the ring

You're more leaniant than most wrestling fans out there.

Meltzer just confirmed this also.
SamoaRowe - April 5, 2006 01:53 AM (GMT)
Hahaha, take that, Suckbag! And just when he was beginning to sort of entertain me with that build to WM22... how sad.
He probably took a shit in the Undertaker's bag thinking it was Paul London's.

Better-- Undertaker's urn.
If I had to guess, it would either be roids or some kind of massive backstage blowup, and I'm betting the former.
dynamite kido - April 5, 2006 02:07 AM (GMT)
I guess I'm the only one here that isn't actually happy about this.
I know I'm probably the only one that actually likes Orton, but jeeze....
Scrooge McSuck - April 5, 2006 02:09 AM (GMT)
The guys a dickhead who doesn't deserve the spot he's in. This opens up a chance for Kane to be moved to Smackdown, turn heel, and squash Rey for the belt.

Sorry, DK, but I don't care for Orton in the least. This will make them have to scramble for someone to fill his spot, which isn't good, but I can't say I'll miss him.
jamiegeist - April 5, 2006 02:22 AM (GMT)
This is crazy. I'm impressed they actually did something about one of their stars breaking a rule. I'm guessing drugs too.
That'll leave a huge gap on the heel part of the roster though on Smackdown.
Tonight should be interesting. Thats a pretty big fuckup on Orton's part, whatever he did.

I'm especially pleased if Orton was supposed to take back the belt from Rey...maybe they'll think twice about it. If not, just good riddance anyways.
jamiegeist - April 5, 2006 02:26 AM (GMT)
This could be going out on a limb, but maybe he had a legitimate gripe with the decision to put the title on Rey. Perhaps this was the "last minute booking decision" they were playing up. He might've been told he was winning, and then they changed it, and his attitude doesn't seem like one that would handle that too well.
prof_plague - April 5, 2006 03:26 AM (GMT)
This had to have been building up for sometime. Don't forget Orton was penciled in to win the Royal Rumble - it may have come from that, too.
SamoaRowe - April 5, 2006 03:46 AM (GMT)
Orton is suspended and it isn't even my birthday :P
Actually, I think my Orton hate is more of a tradition now than any sort of actual problem I might have with him. I'll admit, I was enjoying him this past month going into WrestleMania, and I did enjoy his series of matches with Benoit a few months back too.
I also got into his character (not so much his matches) for a while in 2004 while he was still in Evolution.
But in the end, it will take Orton a lot to get me to like him. For every good Orton memory, there is still his face fun ::vomits:: and anything he did in 2003.
jamiegeist - April 5, 2006 04:40 AM (GMT)
Strangely enough, I THINK I hate the guy. But then when he comes on to the screen, playing that arrogant prick with that sly smile, I actually get very into him.
Also, seeing him live, I was actually marking out for him and starting an RKO chant.
So I like i said.......I THINK I hate the guy, but then things seem to go crazy when I see him.
jamiegeist - April 5, 2006 06:20 AM (GMT)
Okay, so he wrestled on the smackdown spoilers, and then was announced for a matchup next week as well.
Not really following this whole suspension thing.

Well that would be awful IMO. I like Orton better than Kane, and honestly Kane is one of the last people that should have a World title right now......
Mad Dog - April 5, 2006 01:11 PM (GMT)
Randy Orton is actually the main reason that I refuse to watch Smackdown.
dynamite kido - April 5, 2006 01:18 PM (GMT)
OK, seriously...........that's crazy. The guy might not be the greatest wrestler in the world or anything..............but there's NO WAY that he's as bad as people here are making him out to be.......
Mad Dog - April 5, 2006 03:23 PM (GMT)
Yes he is. He's not the worst guy on the roster. But slugs like Heidenreich were usually gone after 5 minutes. Orton consistently gets 10-20 minutes of tv time a week.
Big F'N Swigg - April 5, 2006 04:01 PM (GMT)
I'd like him a lot better if he were lower on the card. He should be going for the US title, not the World

Well in all fairness he deserves the TV time he gets because of his spot on the roster. He's had consistantly better matches then someone like Heidenreich so I don't even know where that comparison comes from.......
whitemilesdavis - April 5, 2006 04:25 PM (GMT)
I don't have any real feeings about Randy Orton, so I guess that's a bad thing. I am very curious to know why he was suspended.

LIES! Stop raining on my parade!
And yes, Kane deserves the title a lot more than Randy. Tell Orton to be booked into about 50 nonsense gimmick killing mind scratchingly stupid angles for the next 8 years and I'll change my mind.

Yeah, Kane deserves that shot...........especially because he's jobbed to half of the roster of the last year, but yeah you're right.
whitemilesdavis - April 5, 2006 08:29 PM (GMT)
Plus he stays over. Which Orton has never been, even with a God push.

I think the God push would have constituted him either winning the title this year or actually beating the undertaker last year at mania..........
Scrooge McSuck - April 5, 2006 10:16 PM (GMT)
Orton gets a better push than 95% of the roster. Sure, he jobs to the top guys like Undertaker, but who doesn't? And when was the last time Undertaker actually did a clean job to a new star? 1997?
dynamite kido - April 5, 2006 10:42 PM (GMT)
That's because Orton has potential in the future. Kane has already come and gone.............
Scrooge McSuck - April 5, 2006 10:45 PM (GMT)
Can't be much of a future if WWE is willing to send his ass home for 60 days, especially since Smackdown has zero heels to begin with that can fill in a main event spot.

More a future than a guy that's been used as nothing more as main event job material since 98.
whitemilesdavis - April 6, 2006 12:13 PM (GMT)
The God push I was referring to was the original God push that was intended to make him a star....and it didn't.

You mean the one that ended with him jobbing out the title to Triple H? Yeah, I thought so.
whitemilesdavis - April 6, 2006 03:27 PM (GMT)
EVERYONE has jobbed to HHH, and some guys can still get over.
Scrooge McSuck - April 6, 2006 04:52 PM (GMT)
Which is pretty much everyone in the last 5 years. Even Jericho, who's total record vs. Triple H is about 1-59303983, remained over enough to be a main eventer. RVD? He's still over with the marks. Booker T? He's over enough, but his time is passed. Kane? Sure, it takes some time these days, but he's getting there again.

Some more details have become available regarding Randy Orton's recent 60 day suspension from WWE. According to reports, Orton's conduct backstage at WrestleMania 22 came into question and that he violated a rule (possibly the dress code) that made it seem as if he didn't care because "he is Randy Orton." That is initially the way it come off to many wrestlers and WWE staff.
Many within the company continue to question Orton's maturity level and that he continues to carry himself as a full blown main eventer in the company. Some wrestlers have described Orton as always bragging about how he is "god's gift to women" and showing blatant disrespect towards women around wrestlers. Others have described Orton as being someone directly opposite of a locker room leader and some are hoping this minor suspension will wake him up to his surroundings.
It should be noted that Orton is not well liked at all in the SmackDown locker room and The Undertaker (who is one of the locker room leaders on SmackDown) reportedly despises Orton. Veterans on both the RAW and SmackDown brand that have been around Orton also don't like him as well. Individuals such as Ric Flair and Kurt Angle have even made it clear on many occassions that they don't like the way Orton handles himself. The general feeling is that WWE management making the decision to suspend Orton shows other wrestlers that even top guys can be punished for the way they act.

Big F'N Swigg - April 7, 2006 01:48 PM (GMT)
So they make him a main eventer when he's way too young, and then punish him for being cocky?
yeah, that's smart
