Title: Best wrestlers under 5'10
dynamite kido - March 31, 2006 04:46 PM (GMT)
This was obviously from smkelly's post in the 3/31 workers discussion thread.
So who are your best wrestlers of all time under 5'10?
TheGreatWhiteChoate - March 31, 2006 04:49 PM (GMT)
Rey Mysterio....to state the extremely obvious.
Scrooge McSuck - March 31, 2006 04:52 PM (GMT)
To state the other extreme obvious that smkelley mentioned, Dynamite Kid, Chris Benoit, and Jushin Liger. My personal pick of the 3 is Jushin Liger.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - March 31, 2006 04:55 PM (GMT)
It's probably just because I haven't seen much Liger, but I'd go with Benoit.
Scrooge McSuck - March 31, 2006 04:56 PM (GMT)
All three are great picks, and it's honestly a tough choice.
whitemilesdavis - March 31, 2006 04:58 PM (GMT)
So are Eddie and DK the consensus 1 + 2?
What about Ultimo Dragon.

No Eddie and DK wouldn't be my consensus one and two.
I would put Liger over both of them and probably Fujinami.
Ulitmo is the shit, but would have a hard time cracking the top 10.

I love Ultimo, but I agree with DK. He's got to be a little further down on any list like this.
So who would you put at 1-2?
whitemilesdavis - March 31, 2006 05:39 PM (GMT)
Haiti Kid...
Just Kidding, I'd say Eddie and DK. I thought Ultimo was incredible before his injury in WCW. I'm not sure of exact heights on a lotta guys.
Scrooge McSuck - March 31, 2006 05:40 PM (GMT)
Also have to agree on Ultimo. I like him a lot, but when bunching together all the great workers of his size, he doesn't measure up (pun intended) to the top of the list.
dynamite kido - March 31, 2006 05:51 PM (GMT)
My one and two...
1) Liger
2)Fujinami
jamiegeist - March 31, 2006 10:15 PM (GMT)
The problem is kayfabe height over real height. Is there a reliable source for any of this?
smkelly13 - March 31, 2006 10:19 PM (GMT)
You guys can call me Sean if you like, if you can remember.
I see so many threads all the time of "Who's the greatest wrestler" or "What's the greatest match" etcetera and so forth. I like being more specific.
If I had to put them in order, here's how I'd do it:
1. Jushin Liger. He carried the junior division in a promotion from roughly 1989 to almost the current state. He is the definitive junior heavyweight wrestler. Has had countless classic matches, with a wide variety of performers. Also, a surperb booker.
2. Dynamite Kid. Revolutionized the junior heavyweight division. He brought something to the public that was years ahead of it's time. Was one half of one of the greatest tag teams in the 1980's, and all-time for that matter. A great author as well.
3. Chris Benoit. I'm sure some bias is involved here, but he is the greatest wrestler today, bar none. If I was to start a promotion today, or tomorrow, or next year, Mr. Benoit would be getting a offer. Has had countless classic matches.
4. Satoru Sayama. Along with DK, made the junior heavyweight division.
5. Eddie Guerrero. He can do it all. Wrestle, fly, brawl, talk. The complete package. He'd be almost right behind Benoit if I started a promotion. R.I.P.
Maybe we should do a under six foot discussion next. Theres plenty of great wrestlers that fit that requirement.
jamiegeist - March 31, 2006 10:21 PM (GMT)
I feel like a know a ton about wrestling, but you want me to categorize someone within 2 inches of height?
Thats re-fuckin-diculous.
Besides, talking about "best wrestlers under this" or "over this" is stupid to me. This makes us just as bad as Vince. I don't care how big/small/light/heavy someone is, its all about if they can bring it.
Booyeah.

It's useful to make you think of guys you might not normally, though, and for that I respect it. I don't think the 2 inches requirement is necessarily a good one to debate, however.
SamoaRowe - March 31, 2006 10:27 PM (GMT)
Where's the love for Super Porky?
All kidding aside, Benoit, Liger, Eddie, and Mysterio are all great picks.
Could I possibly include Dean Malenko and Chris Jericho?
smkelly13 - March 31, 2006 10:48 PM (GMT)
What's the problem with listing who you think is great that's under six feet ?

Dude it's a wrestling message board and this is a discussion.......if you think that it's a bad debate.......then don't. I actually think it's a good topic.....
.....and I honestly can't understand how bad people are underrating Fujinami, unless you haven't seen ANY of his stuff. RFS, MD? Backup needed pronto over here...
smkelly13 - March 31, 2006 11:00 PM (GMT)
Isn't he like 6'1ish ?
And I agree with you. If you have a problem with a discussion, stay out of it.
Scrooge McSuck - March 31, 2006 11:50 PM (GMT)
(hides in corner)
I actually like this discussion, mainly because it opens the doors for guys like me who watch a minimal amount of puro, but enough to be able to build an opinion on their workers.
jamiegeist - April 1, 2006 06:40 AM (GMT)
Wow, sorry messageboard police defenders of the universe.
I was simply stating that as my opinion on the matter. My overlying opinion remains that I simply don't care how big or small someone it, and that kayfabe'd heights (and shoe implants if you're Chris Jericho) make it hard to even place people legitimately.
Next time, I'll just stay out, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - April 1, 2006 07:25 AM (GMT)
My only point was that we shouldn't bother have a new topic every time we went up two inches in height. If we're just devoting this particular thread to that sort of thing, I'm gold.
Scrooge McSuck - April 1, 2006 01:20 PM (GMT)
Oh, I missed the 2 inch thing. My bad... I agree, that's a little silly, because my answer would be the same.
Colcollazo - April 1, 2006 09:46 PM (GMT)
I'll just do wrestlers that are under 5'10". I don't wanna say Benoit since he's exactly 5'10" and so is Liger, so I'll say Eddie with Rey being #2 behind him. I don't think Dynamite Kid is as good as any of these four, taking nothing away from him, and Satoru Sayama isn't close to being as good as any of these either. I think DK is 5'10" anyway.
Scrooge McSuck - April 1, 2006 10:01 PM (GMT)
Liger... exactly 5'10"? The guy looks like a midget! If he's 5'10", then Eddie is 6'0".

Benoit and Liger BOTH are under 5'10
Colcollazo - April 2, 2006 12:41 PM (GMT)
Now that I've checked, Liger's under 5'10", Benoit's not.
Scrooge McSuck - April 2, 2006 01:36 PM (GMT)
Benoit is maybe an inch taller than Liger, and Liger looks to be 5'7".

BENOIT IS UNDER 5'10. I've seen him in person..............so wherever you're getting that number from it's incorrect.
jamiegeist - April 2, 2006 10:07 PM (GMT)
I don't wanna be that guy.....
But I told you so.
This is silly. We can't really have a decent debate or discussion about this when everyone lies about their height and weight. And even if you find an "official" source which Colcolazzo seems to have gone to the trouble of doing, how do you IT is right......as DK pointed out.
prof_plague - April 4, 2006 09:03 PM (GMT)
El Santo and Gory Guerrero. 'Nuff said.
prof_plague - April 4, 2006 09:05 PM (GMT)
Oh, and from what I'm looking at now, Benoit is 5'11" and Liger is 5'7".
