Title: The 3/31 Worker poll......

dynamite kido - March 31, 2006 01:51 PM (GMT)
I'm going to start doing these weekly to try and drum up some discussion. Everyweek I'm going to do this poll with two random wrestlers and we shall vote and discuss who the best worker is out of the two. I'd like to see this keep up so I ask that everyone at least TRIES to keep the discussions going. You may even hold out on your voting as maybe the discussion could sway your opinion......

This weeks promises to be a doosy.......I hope you guys can sink your teeth into this one.

whitemilesdavis - March 31, 2006 02:07 PM (GMT)
Without question, Eddie Guerrero. Really not even hard for me.

Care to explain?

MAY I ALSO ASK THAT IF YOU ARE GOING TO VOTE THAT YOU RESPOND WITH SOME KIND OF A POST EXPLAINING WHY YOU VOTED THE WAY YOU DID

I'm going with Eddie. He has a more balanced style, plain and simple. I like Rey, but the "gusty underdog that moves around like a cockroach" loses it's appeal against someone that can work all styles.

whitemilesdavis - March 31, 2006 02:19 PM (GMT)
Rey is better at flying...probably the best ever, but Eddie was better at basically everything else. Matwork, psychology, the only other thing I'd put Rey close at is selling. I'd say Eddie has many more classic matches than Rey. He's obviously better in the mic / character / charisma department. At Eddie's peak (I'd say '97) he was one of the very best ever. Rey is very, very good. One of the best cruisers ever, but he's no Eddie Gurrero.

I voted for Eddie myself, but maybe for a different reason than many of you. Certainly Rey is a great worker and I doubt ANYONE here would deny that. BUT, Eddie has been successful wrestling in Mexico, US, and Japan (Rey's wrestled in Japan, but had nowhere the success that Eddie had). Also Eddie was a hell of a heel.......something Rey's never done. Or at least never done to the degree of Eddie. Also, Eddie was a DAMN fine tag team wrestler in maybe one of the greatest tag teams EVER in Mexico, or anywhere else.....Los Gringos Locos with partner Art Barr.

I'll second that. Eddie's style and build lead to a broader appeal. I like Rey and all, but he's limited to his style because of his size. That's a real drawback for him.

I want to touch on something DK mentioned... I was watching When Worlds Collide, a PPV featuring Guerrero and Barr vs. Octagon and Hijo del Santo. I have no emotional connection to the match or why it was happening, but I was marking the fuck out for the last few minutes of Falls #2 and #3. I guess I'm trying to say it shows you how great the participants were that they could make me forget the match is over 11 years old and still enjoy it like it was happening live.

Just to add somthing to Scrooge's post here..........

But for anyone that has ever seen that PPV, check out how hot the crowd is...............and then remember that the show is in Los Angeles.........and that AAA ran in MEXICO.

That is a true testiment to how great that match really is.

I voted for Eddie Guerrero, who is winning by a landslide right now, 6-0.

Rey has always been hit and miss with me. It's never been to believable for Rey to beat someone like Kurt Angle, and you can only play the underdog role for so long before it gets tiring.

Eddie Guerrero was without a doubt, top five all-time for wrestlers under 5'10.

The other four being: Billington, Benoit, Sayama, and Liger.

whitemilesdavis - March 31, 2006 04:07 PM (GMT)
Wow, now there's a discussion. Best wrestlers under 5'10".

jamiegeist - March 31, 2006 04:17 PM (GMT)
I also went with Eddie, before reading any of this.

Eddie was just more well rounded. I won't say Rey is a one-trick pony, but Eddie can pretty much do alot of things Rey can do, and then alot more. He is better on the mat, I think has better psycology and selling as well.

You wanna really make this interesting? Have the winner go on against the next entrant. Might wanna start over though, as starting at Eddie/Rey would be quite high for a game like that.

I agree............done and done.

Colcollazo - April 1, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)
Yeah, Eddie. He's just one of the most well-rounded wrestlers ever, simple as that. I love, love Rey but he isn't as complete as Eddie was, though they can be compared to eachother.

dynamite kido - April 2, 2006 01:18 AM (GMT)
Does the person that voted for Rey have anything to add?

Scrooge McSuck - April 2, 2006 01:19 AM (GMT)
Probably a sympathy vote. :D

TheGreatWhiteChoate - April 2, 2006 03:41 AM (GMT)
Whoa, sorry, forgot. I voted for Rey. I've seen a fair amount of both of their careers, and I just feel that as great as Eddie always was, Rey is better. It obviously has somethign to do with my preference for high flyers, but Rey can get a terrific match out of nearly anyone, and the limitations placed upon him for his lack of size and dismissal as a power threat make what he can do even more impressive. I'm not taking anything away from Eddie by voting for Rey, but I do believe he is the better worker.

*puts on asbestos suit and waits

prof_plague - April 4, 2006 08:55 PM (GMT)
Although I'm all on for the Rey train, Eddie was a better worker because he could the crowd in different ways - face, heel, storyteller, promo, pro wrestler, not to mention his natural charisma and abilities to cut promos, and be a great all-round wrestler.
