Title: My Smackdown Spoilers
Description: From Kansas City
jamiegeist - March 29, 2006 06:25 AM (GMT)
Just got home from the smackdown tapings, here are my general spoilers I'll be sending around:
Dark Match: Scotty 2 Hotty v Sean O'Haire: Scotty won via small package.
Note: O'Haire drew nice heat, but looked a bit pudgy.
Velocity: Match 1: Gymini w/Simon Dean v Paul London/Brian Kendrick: Gymini won via their finisher, the old H-Bomb that the Harris Bros used.
Note: London took a scary bump directly on the top of his head on an attempted huracanrana.
Match 2: Ace Steele v Orlando Jordan: Jordan via Flatliner
Match 3: Vito w/Nunzio v Funaki: Vito via Impaler DDT
Smackdown Tapings:
Show opened with a promo from Rey calling out Orton. Instead he got Angle. Angle them called out Orton. Both wanted Orton tonight. Orton showed, and suggested a handicap match, but backed out, instead suggesting that Angle/Mysterio face each other. Teddy Long came out and made the match, and made it Rey/Angle for the World Title tonight!
Match 1: Chris Benoit v Road Warrior: Benoit via tapout to the Crippler Crossface.
Backstage Segment: Benoit was confronted by JBL who said he defeated one great technical wrestler, Eddie Guerrero for a title, and would do the same to Benoit at Mania.
Match 2: JBL v Derrick Cross (name may be wrong): JBL via 2 Clotheslines from Hell.
Note: Squash Match, Cross was announced with no music.
Match 3: Booker T w/Sharmell v Paul Birchall: Paul Birchall via countout
Note: Boogeyman came down very quickly, kidnapping Sharmell, and Booker got counted out. Birchall was suprisingly over with the live crowd.
Backstage Segment (a few of them): Booker T searching for Sharmell, and finding tons of worms.
Match 4: Tatanka, Lashley, Matt Hardy v Finlay and MNM: Tatanka, Lashley, and Hardy via Hardy Twist of Fate on Mercury.
Note: Very fun match. Mercury was bloodied at the nose, possibly a broken nose.
In-ring Promo: Mark Henry, standing at a black podium, with black wreaths in the ring, and wearing a suit, cut a promo on Taker, talking about all the men who have lost to him at Mania. Each was shown on the Titantron, and Henry said he will do what they couldn't. No Taker, suprisingly, on Smackdown.
Match 5: Mexicools v Kid Kash/Jamie Noble: Mexicools via Super Crazy flipping Rock Bottom from the top rope.
Note: Not kidding on that finish. It was unbelievable. Match of the Night, easily.
Match 6: World Title Match: Kurt Angle v Rey Mysterio: Angle via tapout with the anklelock.
Note: Rey tapped cleanly after the anklelock was only applied for a few seconds. Orton came down afterwards and hit the RKO on Rey. Not sure when taping stopped, but Angle went back in the ring and made Orton tap as well.
Dark Match: Undertaker v Mark Henry: Undertaker via Chokeslam
Note: Pretty sluggish match as expected. Didn't make me look forward to Mania.
Biggest Face Pops:
1. Undertaker
2. Rey Mysterio
3. Kurt Angle/Boogeyman
Biggest Heel Heat:
1. Randy Orton
2. Kurt Angle (played the heel in his confrontation and match with Rey)
3. Simon Dean (none of the other heels drew much attention, but they were all over Simon)

Excellent recap.
Ace Steele is such a porn name. Did he "have good facials??" :)
Sean O'Haire is back in wrestling?! Well..sort of. He jobbed to Scotty 2 Hotty.

A few more genuine thoughts from me, a DWB exclusive, if you will.
Crowd was pretty jacked all night, but then seemed to just go to sleep once people hit the ring. It was quite annoying and depressing, and we were told to sit down alot, but remained true and stood for most everything we wanted to.
TONS of Eddie chants. I love Eddie and all, but its just getting annoying. There was at least 10 different Eddie chants started up during Angle/Rey. It just has to stop.
We tried desperately to get a dueling "Lets Go Angle, Lets go Rey" chant going, but the marks weren't taking to it. Instead chanting shit like "USA, USA!" the whole fuckin time.
The same marks around us actually started a tomahawk chop and chant during Tatanka's heat segment in the 6 man. I wanted to bitchslap them all. I unfortunately lost my voice, so I couldn't do much.
The finish from Super Crazy was in fact super fuckin crazy. Came out of nowhere, and we didn't expect it at all. Hot match from those 4, and I want more, right now.
I'd be glad to answer any fun questions, as I'm kind of on a high still. Much better show than I could have possibly expected.
Oh, a few loose things at the end. Tony Chimmell came over and shook our hand afterwards, and Lil Naitch acknowledged us, since we kept yelling that at him. He was on the fuckin ring crew afterwards, tearing down the barricade, which I thought was amazing.

What'd you think of Rey tappin' out so quickly?

Haha. No not really. My indy friend I was with tells me he is an RoH guy, and that he rules. It was definitely the worst match of the night though. Jordan is just fuckin atrocious in there. He looked lost, in a 2 minute match.

Was dumbfounded and upset at first. He needs a promo on the Mania pre-show to maybe discuss how he knew he was caught, and made a mistake, but tonight won't make that mistake, and will win. Him tapping so quick, with the title on the line, was just a bit strange.
And there were 2 or 3 really good near falls at the end of that match that the crowd (including me) was eating up.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - March 29, 2006 07:00 AM (GMT)
Agreed. It seems to imply that he's weak, and that's no good.
Scrooge McSuck - March 29, 2006 12:27 PM (GMT)
Woah, looks like a good show. KASH AND NOBLE ON SMACKDOWN! I GOTTA SEE THIS!
Real F'n Show - March 29, 2006 01:31 PM (GMT)
How much time did the Mexicools vs. Kash and Noble match get?
jamiegeist - March 29, 2006 03:17 PM (GMT)
I'd probably say not more than 7. It felt quick cause it didn't suck, but I sort of recall an extended heat segment on Psicosis, and a hot tag to Crazy. Crazy hit 3 MEAN dropkicks in a row too, right to the skull of both Noble and Kash. Psicosis then hit a corkscrew plancha, before Crazy climbed up and finished off Kash.

Actually it implies that he's smart. Why would you want to break your ankle before your big Wrestlemania match?
They are actually building Rey to be a smart babyface. You should be happy, that means he probably is going to win at Mania.

I didn't really consider it that way. I'd like to see how it plays out on air before I make a decision on that.
jamiegeist - March 29, 2006 05:30 PM (GMT)
I considered it that way, but the title was on the line, so he had just as good a shot of winning it on Smackdown as he does at Mania. Even with one less competitor involved. It was just SO quick. Angle sat down on it right away, and Rey immediately tapped.
And live, he pretty much just rolled away after that, took the RKO, and then wasn't seen again till he exited after the show.

Well, I would think there are a couple reasons for this actually. I'm assuming that the way it'll be thought of is that there WAS a chance for him to win the match......but since the ankle lock was put on him......he gave up to prevent injury and so that he wouldn't miss out on his MANIA shot.
The weird thing is I have no idea why they would book this match. Rey REALLY shouldn't have had a shot at the belt (considering that Long put him in the match without him winning the #1 contender match). Orton should have gotten this match before Rey did. That or they could have done Rey/Orton this week............
jamiegeist - March 29, 2006 06:02 PM (GMT)
Well, the interview made it work, reasoning wise. Orton was all for it. He first propositioned a handicap match, which my friends and I figure Rey and Angle would agree to, only for Orton to say "Good, its settled then. Handicap Match...Angle and Rey v Me....and MNM" But then they switched gears with Teddy Long coming out and saying that the handicap match sounded like a good idea. Orton then backed out, saying he wanted to say fresh for Mania. Orton then proposed that if Angle and Rey can't get along, they should wrestle each other tonight.
Long added the title stip, which really shouldn't offend Orton, since he gets his title shot on Sunday regardless of what happens on Smackdown. He really comes out looking like the smart guy, like always. He didnt wrestle, and Rey/Angle softened each other up.

That actually sounds pretty good.
Now I REALLY can see Rey winning. The fact that Angle beat him and the fact that he's gonna be playing the UBER babyface should make it almost definate that he's taking the title at Mania. Then again who said that their booking makes sense. Hopefully Dusty is booking all of this...........then I would bank on Rey winning.
whitemilesdavis - March 29, 2006 06:58 PM (GMT)
Or Rey winning, only to have that decision to be reversed moments later.
Scrooge McSuck - March 29, 2006 07:25 PM (GMT)
They wouldn't dare do that at WrestleMania.
whitemilesdavis - March 29, 2006 07:41 PM (GMT)
It was a joke. Dusty finish.
Scrooge McSuck - March 29, 2006 07:46 PM (GMT)
I know, but now I'm afraid they might do that... DAMN YOU DUSTY!

You just know the hidden mole for WWE on this board is relaying that thought back to them right now.

... What are you all looking at me for? I'm not squealer! I never squealed on anyone ever! I'M INNOCENT I TELLS YA! INNOCENT!
S.T. Strickler - March 29, 2006 10:08 PM (GMT)
So was the crowd really loud for the Undertaker when he came out for his dark match?
jamiegeist - March 30, 2006 02:02 AM (GMT)
Yeah. Really f'n loud actually. Teddy Long mentioned earlier in the show (during a break) that we would see Taker v Henry tonight, and that got a huge pop.
Other notable massive pops: Anytime Cena was on the screens. HUGE pops for him, and no notable boos. All the faces got quite good reactions. There was an extended Divas' DVD trailer of some kind that got some nice pops, cause it had some nice footage.
They also played like a 5-10 minutes Wrestlemania 21 music video, with clips from every match. Batista got a huge pop there, as did Eddy anytime he was seen on screen.
prof_plague - April 4, 2006 08:17 PM (GMT)
I know indy guys get brought all the time from the WWE, but I wonder, since Punk is iwith the WWE now, if may be we'll see some more of our favorite indy guys jobbing on Velocity, like Colt cabana and Ace Steel.
And...Scotty 2 Hotty won a match! Hooray!
