Good ol' Rey. I'd like to see them give him at least a couple months with the title, just so we can always remember him as a champ.

That was a pretty good read. Well researched and unbiased. Reading the article had me thinking about the type of weekend that Mysterio is in for over Wrestlemania. He has to live up to the pressure put on every wrestler in a main event position at Mania and has to present Eddie G. into the hall of fame the night before. That's a hell of a lot of pressure. Here's to Rey actually winning the belt at Mania too.

That was a rather surprisingly decent article. I say that because we all know how the media treats "rasslin'" a.k.a "isn't that fake?" stuff.

I hope WWE lets Rey retain the belt @ Judgment Day (if he wins @ WM 22). Have him lose the belt at a bigger pay per view like SummerSlam so that he has some wins as Champion and can be remembered as a good fighting champion and not as a transitional champion. WWE needs to give some ppl a chance with the title.

The only way I would be (slightly) understanding of Mysterio losing the belt after two months would be if he defended the title frequently on episodes of Smackdown in between. I have a good feeling that he will win the title, since he is getting this type of mainstream exposure for the WWE.

I see him may be dropping the belt in a couple of months because booking probably only sees him being ontop for that long with the title.
whitemilesdavis - March 28, 2006 04:46 PM (GMT)
I still don't think he should get the belt.
For an underdog storyline to draw, the underdog has to be chasing for the belt. To this point, I've seen no good build in that direction. It would be anticlimactic and wasteful for him to just win the title out of the blue like this. IF they want to give Rey the belt, they need to do an extended program where Rey keeps getting closer and closer to taking the title. Wait until the fans are dying for him to win it, and then pay it off with a title win.
Rey wouldn't be the guy I'd put in that spot anyhow, but if you are gonna do it, do it right and make some money off it.

He did win the Royal Rumble match.

But he hasn't had an exstensive chase for the belt.

I'd like to see that too, but we know how the booking's been lately. The best booked angle I've seen in a while is Mickie James and Trish, and that's just sad.

True, but my point remains. What is the point of putting your belt on a tiny guy if there is no sufficient build to it?

I mostly agree with you. If they could or would do a buildup after Wrestlemania to give him the strap, I'd be more than happy to see his title win postponed. If this is all we're going to get, then I'd at least like to see what he can do with it now.

I'm afraid it's gonna be another dead-end title run for one of our favorites. He "won't draw", "won't be able to handle the pressure" or some crap, when in reality they've given him nothing to work with.

That's always a fear, of course. I'm not sure if I'd prefer a depressing run with Rey where they give him nothing to do or someone like Orton holding the belt.
What the hell am I saying? Go Rey!
whitemilesdavis - March 28, 2006 05:58 PM (GMT)
Whoever gets it, other than Angle, is gonna fail. I say give to Orton.

Honestly Mysterio as champion would be the best thing for ratings AND their creativity. First off, it would give them what they've wanted for a long time. REALLY GOOD heels.....
Considering Rey can make a good heel out of just about anyone. Secondly Rey isn't the buckling type to my knowledge (As much as I loved Eddie he was a wrestling with strong health problems and a background of drug abuse...........so I doubt there'd be this type of problem with Rey)and he has the thing that made them give the title to Eddie..............Latino heritage. It's a big market demographic now in TV and everyone is trying to capitalize on it (look at ABC, they are packaging a whole night of TV toward it with George Lopez and Freddie Prinze Jr's show) so it could work......................especially if they are having Dusty book it.

Not to be outdone, the Onion also has an article on Rey, (sorta):
