Title: WWF & WCW Compilation Tape (7/98 - 8/98)
Description: Classic Shit F'SHO!

Cage Classic - March 12, 2006 08:54 AM (GMT)
WWF & WCW Compilation Tape (July 1998 - August 1998)

- The tape opens opens up with a Hogan/Bischoff/Disciple promo. God, the days of WCW 1998. This is post Goldberg title win over Hogan, so Hogan spouts off at the mouth about DDP and Karl Malone for their match at Bash at the Beach. He flaps his gums about that, and challenges Goldberg to a rematch for the title as well as the lackey goon Ed Leslie stands there looking stupid. Bischoff says that nWo Hollywood will provide ringside security for Meng vs. Goldberg later on that night. Ugh, I hope I didn't tape THAT match.

- Cut to Raw, and Mankind is in the ring with Paul Bearer, Kane and Mr. McMahon. Bearer says McMahon is going to listen to the fat man for once, but McMahon snatches the mic away and tells Kane to take off his damn mask or he'll rip it off. Kane stands there, and McMahon tries to rip off the mask when the lights shut off. They come back on, and Undertaker is in the ring with his hands around McMahon's throat and Foley attacks Taker, but McMahon runs up the ramp qith quickness as Undertaker goes in hot pursuit. JR hypes the main event, Undertaker & Steve Austin defending their Tag Team Titles against Mankind & Kane, The Rock & Owen Hart and the New Age Outlaws. King also reminds us that Val Venis and John Wayne Bobbitt have a press conference tonight as we fade to commercial.

We come back from commercial, and Undertaker is walking into Kane's locker room which means trouble for Steve Austin. In the ring, Sable is introducing the Oddities and Luna. Thank God I didn't stick around long enough to see what was coming because....

- Cut to Nitro, and Chris Jericho is getting pummelled by Stevie Ray. Stevie sets Jericho up for the Slapjack, when The Giant slides in the ring and chokeslams Stevie Ray. Jericho wakes up the unconsious referee and turns Stevie Ray over in the Liontamer, but Stevie Ray is out cold, and Jericho wins the Television Title from Stevie Ray. Post match celebration is hilarious, as Jericho jumps in the air and stands on Stevie Ray's chest. I won't rate this match since I obviously switched channels mid match. It fades to commercial, and I switch to Raw.

- The New Age Outlaws come down to the ring to a HUGE ovation. The James Gang receives not even a quarter of the ovation in TNA. X-Pac comes down as well, and then Triple H w/ Chyna. Huge ovation for The (pre) Game. They show that last week, Triple H defeated X-Pac in a #1 contenders match with Chyna's help, even though they're all teammates. Triple H looked neat around this time with the kangaroo hat, the sweet sunglasses, muscle tee and jeans. Triple H begins speaking, when X-Pac snatches the mic away. He's had it with Triple H... and his bitch. Too bad he began fucking her years later. X-Pac says he's come to the conclusion that Triple H and Chyna are a couple of jackoffs. Triple H laughs, and says that the biggest jack off in the world is standing right in front of him. And as far as jack offs go, Gunn and Dogg are just as big as jackoffs as X-Pac. Kip James... I mean, Billy is upset and so is BG.. I mean, Jesse. Triple H is a jackoff, Billy and Dogg are jackoffs, and Pac is a jackoff and supposedly Chyna is one. They agree.. they're all jackoffs. And if anyone would know about jackoffs, it's them. Heh, classic. Triple H wonders if they should stay together, or split. DX has come there tonight to give everyone what they want... the DX split. They go to drop their pants, but Chyna cuts them off. If anyone is going to initiate a DX split, it's gonna be her. She pulls down her pants, and the crowd goes nuts for her nuts... okay, for her ass.

- Back from commercial, and Venis and Bobbitt is in the ring with Mrs. Yamaguchi-San. Venis is holding an ice pack over his nuts. Venis is upset about having his pee pee choppied off, btu it's all a farse. The Big Valbowski is alive and ready to fight. He strips, and the ladies go nuts. Thanks to a cold butchers block and a little shrinkage, and for Bobbitt shutting off the lights, he is still in one piece. Lame, but classic angle. Wrestlecrap material for sure. Bobbitt gets mic time and says that him and Venis live on the edge, and they use about 5 million "cut off" jokes in 30 seconds. King says that it'd have been funny if Bobbitt's dick was on the side of a milk carton for a missing ad. Venis dumps Mrs. Yamaguchi-San, and meh. Commercial break, and as we come back, we FINALLY get a match.

- WWF Tag Team Championship
Undertaker & Steve Austin © vs. Mankind & Kane vs. The Nation vs. New Age Outlaws

Nation makes their way down, followed by the Outlaws, and usual schtick. Tweaked a little bit, but they still use it in 2006, almost 10 years later. Sad. Shamrock rushes the ring, and is beating the holy hell out of Owen Hart. He locks the Anklelock on Owen, and Triple H rushes the ring. The Nation rushes the ring and there's a DX vs. Nation brawl going. Shamrock meanwhile, doesn't let go of the Ankle lock until trainers rush the ring and make him let go. We cut to commercial, but when we come back, we find out that D'Lo is going to replace the now injured Owen Hart. Silly Shamrock, ruining Owen's chances to become Tag Team Champion again. Anyway, Kane and Mankind come down, and then the champs Undertaker and Austin both get a humogous ovation, respectively. God, WWE.. ahem, WWF was great around this point. The Austin/Taker build up was amazing for their match. JR points out that it's a star-studded match. The Intercontinental Champion, the Tag Team Champions, the WWF Champion, and it was a big match. Austin and Mankind started out, but Foley got a spinning neckbreaker and almost a two count. It's matches like this that were entertaining because the fans were always so into them back in 1998, no matter who was wrestling. Every match had a GOOD purpose which lacks nowadays. Mankind, surprisingly is dominating Austin before he guillotines him over the top rope. Mankind tags in D'Lo, and he's stomping away at Austin. D'Lo covers Austin, but Austin is back dominating and takes down D'Lo with a Lou Thesz Press, elbow drop and then tags in Kane. I forgot how awesome his old attire was. Kane tags in Gunn, who quickly hits Brown with a Fameasser, before it was named such and gets a two count following a Jackhammer. Road Dogg gets the tag, hits the Shake Rattling Knee Drop, but a two count. Foley gets a tag and downs Road Dogg. Crowd is in to this and they haven't sat down. ELECTRICITY~! Rock gets the tag and talks some trash and takes it to Road Dogg. Rock, Foley and Brown triple team Road Dogg, and D'Lo is back in. I can't keep track with this, but it's exciting to me and the fans. HUGE suplex from Brown to Road Dogg. D'Lo was so awesome, I don't understand why he never got a really solid push. Of all people who got a singles push and succeeded, it should have been him. Gunn with another Jackhammer after getting the tag, goes for the pin, but Taker breaks up the count. Austin gets the tag, obliterates Gunn, and challenged Taker to get the tag and kick someone's ass. Teamwork from the champs on Gunn, and Taker kicks Foley off the apron to the floor. Crowd is now, officially, going apeshit. About 10 chants going on at once. UN-DER-TAY-KER! *clap clap clap clap clap*, AUSTIN! AUSTIN!, ROCKY SUCKS!, NEW-AGE-OUTLAWS! Somehow, Austin and Undertaker both end up as the legal men, but Road Dogg gets the tag, opting not to tear into each other. Old School to Road Dogg before it got it's name, and before it became a move you could almost win on. D'Lo is in and hits his wiggly head leg drop, and tags in the Rock who is SO over as a heel, it's amazing. BULLET BOB REFERENCE~! Taker and Foley are in the ring, and within seconds, EVERYONE is in the ring and there is a pier six brawl going down, as Foley gets taken down with a big boot. Mankind tags in Kane, and Kane hits Taker with a Chokeslam. He makes the cover, and gets the three count in 13:52 as Hogan pulls a Hogan kickout .99999999 seconds after the three count. This was a really awesome match. Post match, Taker and Austin have a staredown, and Austin looks pissed, despite their feud. ***1/2 for a really awesome match, full of action and electricity.
Winner and NEW WWF Tag Team Champions: Mankind & Kane

That Raw ended, and we're on Heat I believe now. Jacqueline is in the ring with Mero and calls Sable a ugly swine, which brings her out. Sable likes her wine fine, and her men even finer. The only thing cheap in the WWF is Jackie's perfume AND her day rate. It would have sounded more offensive if she had a little bit of emotion. Sable was the female Austin in 1998. And JESUS, Shane McMahon was awful on commentary. Sable wants to drop the bomb on Jacqueline, no matter what kind of challenge she has. This sets up their Mixed Tag Team Match at SummerSlam.

- X-Pac & Triple H (w/ Chyna) vs. Southern Justice
Pre-match ritual from DX, and a shout out to a hyper active Shane McMahon who is standing on the table. For those who don't remember, Southern Justice was the former Godwinns turned Jarrett lackies aka Dennis Knight and Mark Canturberry. Completely different from out last match on the tape because the crowd is NOT into this match at all unless DX is getting the upper hand. JR plugs Pacific Blue because Triple H guest starred and said it got the highest rating ever. That show was really, really boring and A.C. Slater was in it too. Saved By The Bell >>>> Pacific Blue. DX has not been on the upper hand on this match, AT all. Triple H thumbs Mark in the eye, but it does nothing until Triple H hits a neckbreaker and tags in X-Pac. X-Punk downs Mideon, I mean Knight, and hits the Bronco Buster. Knight gets up though and just destroyes X-Pac with a clothesline. Triple H rushes the ring, and gets thrown over the top rope. Southern Justice beat on Triple H outside the ring, and Jeff Jarrett runs to the ring and downs X-Pac causing a DQ in 4:07. Jarrett pulls out the hair clippers and is about to cut X-Pac's hair, but The Outlaws run down and get ready to fight, sending Jarrett and Southern Justice running. I'll be nice by giving this * instead of a DUD.
Winner: X-Pac & Triple H by DQ

- Undertaker comes to the ring, and Steve Austin is watching it all on his monitor in his locker room. Oh, and he had a Steveweiser. Oh, the days when Heat wasn't a jobber show. Taker says he's done everything he said he was going to do to protect his investment into the WWF Title and his title shot. Taker said the only person he couldn't protect Austin from was himself. Taker calls Austin "boy" which pisses Austin up, and he's on his way to the ring from the back. Taker says he'll be all up in his face, and that he's going to meet him at the intersection of the Highway to Hell. Cue Austin's music, and he hits the ring. On his way to the ring, Kane's pyro hits, and the show ends as Austin looks on in fright. The tape picks up on Raw the next night for a good match.

- Non Sanctioned Street Fight
D-Generation X vs. The Nation

The Nation comes down with a combined weight of 1,567 pounds. That's a lot of girth. Match starts off quick as Pac takes down D'Lo with a trash can. Cookie sheets, and all. Not much wrestling, but loads of action and excitement because they're all frantic and the crowd is loving it. The Rock cleans Billy Gunn's clock with a cookie sheet, twice. Loud shots. The Rock DDT's Gunn, but Road Dogg hits Rock with a chair taking him out. Triple H is hurt, and isn't getting up as D'Lo stomps away at him. JR was at his best on commentary, going nuts for this match and putting it over. Rock goes for the Peoples Elbow, but almost trips on a cookie sheet. The Rock pins Road Dogg, but Gunn breaks it up with a trash can to the back. Gunn hits a piledriver on D'Lo. Jarrett comes down to the ramp and clotheslines X-Pac. Now they're brawling. Southern Justice hits the ring and they triple team X-Pac outside the ring. Jarrett cuts off some of X-Pac's hair, but back in the ring, The Rock drops Triple H with a Rock Bottom. Henry slides in a ladder. Outside the ring, The Outlaws and X-Pac take care of Jarrett and Southern Justice leaving Triple H in the ring to get pummled. Triple H is "bleeding internally" as Rock throws him face first into the ladder. Rock rams it into the gut of Helmsley and then drops it on his back. The "match" ends in 9:52, and The Rock talks some trash before heading to the back. Not a real match, but for excitement and a little brutality, I give it **1/4. Since it was non-sanctioned, there is no official winner, but if I had to choose one based on who had the upper hand the most, I'd give it to The Nation.
Winner: The Nation

Oh lord, I switched to Nitro. God help me. Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell are in the ring, and the crowd is booing them. Probably not just because they're heels. This promo truly sucks. Steiner is in a half body cast, with a doctor behind them with the most fucked up hair I have ever seen in my life. I can't even recap this shit. I refuse to. FAST FOWARD~!

- Arm Wrestling Contest
Sable vs. Jacqueline (w/ Mark Mero)

Sable comes out, and they focus on a sign that reads "I JOBBED TO GOLDBERG". Jackie comes out to Mark Mero's music, which owns by the way. They're using it in a Sports Illustrated commercial nowadays. Might I add that Jackie's tits weren't TOO huge around this time. By the time she got fired in 2005, they were fucking like huge boulders. Her finisher should have been the Titty Drop of Doom. Anyway, the match begins and Sable is winning as Jackie oversells. Sable almost wins completely, but Jackie pushes the table down on Sable's titties (aka "abdomen... my ass). Jackie slams Sable's trophy on Sables juggs and it shatters and she flees the ring with Mero as The Oddities run to the ring. Luna and the freaks console Sable, and Luna for some reason is all shaken up and upset screaming for help. Lame. I won't rate it, but it was poop.
Winner: No Contest

Again, I switched to Nitro. Alrighty then, don't you miss those days when you flip flopped?

- WCW United States Championship
Bret Hart © vs. Diamond Dallas Page

DDP was so over, it's insane. The people loved him. Strangely enough, DDP dominated this entire match. Page hit Hart with a Styles Clash, obviously before it was a move. Schiavone called it an inverted pancake. What a fucking bafoon. Hart got in some shots here and there, but the heel that he is, Hart got the upper hand shoving DDP into the ref, pulling out some kux, decking him and puts DDP on top of him. He puts the knux in DDP's trunks, and kicks out. Strange. He gives the thumbs down, which Batista stole years later. Thief. He drops a knee to the nuts, and locks him in the Sharpshooter. DDP gets the ropes though, somehow. Hart locks in a Sleeper Hold, but DDP pushes him off. Hart goes for a clothesline, but DDP ducks and hits the Diamond Cutter. Page calls for it once again. Might I add that Nick Patrick is the referee for this match, and is sporting a Snoop Dogg style perm. I digress. Patrick notices the knux tucked in Page's tights, and calls for the bell and Bret Hart retains the title in 6:21. *1/2. Pretty textbook match, I guess. It just seemed like nothing flowed well. It had some exciting parts, but the ending was lame as fuck.
Winner by DQ and STILL United States Champion: Bret Hart

Commercial, and my worst nightmare is before me.

- WCW World Heavyweight Championship
Goldberg © vs. The Giant (w/ The Disciple)

He's 131-0 at this point, and the dubbed over fans are in full effect tonight! The music plays a full set and starts over again before Goldberg leaves his locker room which is either the janitors closet or the women's restroom on this particular day. Really can't get into this match, because we know that 131 is about to become 132. Goldberg's entrance takes up 10 minutes, and he spews and spits his way to the ring. Giant attacks, and I just realized that Michael Buffer must have been making a rare Nitro appearance, butchering the introductions. Remember when he called Bret Hart "Bret Clark"? Giant drops Goldberg with the Chokeslam, but Goldberg no sells and is up in 5 seconds and he bodyslams him. Giant knees Goldberg in the gut, and kicks him a million times. And knees him some more. Thank God he's improved. I keep typing Big Show too, ugh. Giant hits Goldberg with a Russian Legsweep, picks him up and a headbutt. He was looking smaller then than he does now, and of course, he had his Tina Turner circa 1985 hair going on. Brutus Beefcake attacks Goldberg on the outside, and Giant lifts up Goldberg, but he gets shoved into the ringpost anyway. Nitro had those stupid little flamming ringside mats too. Fucking hideous. Their stage, ring and ringside was all ugly and corny. Giant taunts, but gets Speared down. Disciple attacks Goldberg, causing the DQ in only 3:46, but gets Speared for his actions and Jackhammered. Thank God. Goldberg is a fucking idiot though, and pinned Disciple. Fucking retard. Hall runs in, but Nash wants a piece and runs in to get Hall, but Goldberg Speared Nash by accident. He fucked up again. Nash no sells it somehow, and is up in Goldberg's face. As for the match, I have but one thing to say. DUD!
Winner by DQ and STILL WCW World Champion: Goldberg

Thank God, the show ended. The tape picks up a 6 days later on Heat, and The Rock is in the ring. The Rock accepts Triple H's challenge for a Ladder Match at SummerSlam. Classic Rock quotes... "Triple H, you're half queer", "I'll kick your roody poo, candy ass", "I'll climb the People's ladder rung, by rung, by damn rung..."

- Diamond Dallas Page Interview, and DDP is great with the nicknames. Sleazy E and Hollywood Scum Hogan. Everyone said DDP used to practice his matches days in advanced. I wonder if he did the same for his promos. Mid promo, and Piper's music hits. Piper hypes and plugs DDP. Piper calls Bischoff an Eddie Munster lookalike. That actually made me crack the hell up. He says Hogan and Bischoff come to the ring, he can't tell where one starts and the other begins. Piper says there will be a war. There will be a Warrior and he'll be at WarGames. DDP says that they'll feel the BANG! Piper and Page love, and they leave the ring through the ring. Cut to Raw.

- Kane and Undertaker are together, which brings out Paul Bearer. Paul calls Kane's mom a sleazy whore, and begs Kane to destroy the Undertaker. Kane does nothing, and Bearer squeaks a little bit more, before Taker attacks him. Mankind runs down, but gets a Spike Tombstone from the Brothers of Destruction. Austin comes out, but a wall of fire stops him from walking to the ring. Austin knew all along that they were together. Austin said he can beat either of them one on one, but couldn't do it two on one, so he vows to take somebody out tonight. That's the Bottom Line, and of course you know why. Austin leaves and Taker stares down the entrance way. Following a commercial break, Foley is up and he's challenging Kane to a Hell in the Cell match for right now.

- Backstage, X-Pac is pissing in Jeff Jarrett's boots. Cut to commercial.

- New Age Outlaws vs. Southern Justice
Jarrett comes down to the ring, barefoot and is PISSED. Road Warrior Hawk is on commentary, Drunk. They don't even focus on the match at all, as Jarrett is going nuts on the mic. The camera man keeps shooting Jarrett's feet, but is instructed to not shoot below Jarrett's waist by Double J himself. The match finally is aired, and is over as quick as that in less than three minutes as Gunn pins Knight. I can't even rate it, but I'd guess DUD. The camera man shoots Jarrett's feet again, and Jarrett starts cutting his hair off. He shaves the guy damn near bald, and gets no help whatsoever. Commercial break to end this.
Winner: New Age Outlaws

I switched to Nitro, but Warrior was in the ring, so I switched back to Raw in time for our next match.

- Hell in the Cell
Kane vs. Mankind

Foley starts climbing the cell, but Taker pulls him off and through the table. Kane and Undertaker proceed to beat the fuck out of Foley. They finally get in the ring, and Kane throws stairs at Foley's head. Kane planchas over the top rope. Foley slides him in ring and hits Kane with a piledriver. More actual moves in this match thus far than the King of the Ring Hell in the Cell match. Kane picks up a chair and Foley slowly gets to his feet, only to get taken down by three huge, hard chair shots. No hands either. Kane sets him up and hits the Tombstone on the chair. Out of NOWHERE, Austin attacks Kane! He was under the ring! Undertaker is outside the cage, trying to get in but can't because the door is padlocked. Taker starts climbing to the top of the cell, and is trying to stomp his way inside. Kane gets up but gets a Stunner for his efforts. Austin is beating the holy hell out of Kane and the people love it. Undertaker gets a foot through the cell, but it's starting to rise up. The cell is lifting and Undertaker is still on it. The camera focuses on McMahon raising the cage to protect his investment for SummerSlam. Kane gets up and gets yet another Stunner for his efforts as Taker looks on from 75 feet in the air. The match was a no contest in 6:29 and I'll give it a *1/4, it wasn't that good. If you wanna include Austin's beatdown, then I'll give it **. Generous rating, methinks.
Winner: No Contest

JR and King hype the Highway to Hell music video.

- Chyna Confronts The Rock
Chyna comes out, and so does The Rock, but he's got The Nation with him, and a ladder. The Rock was prepared, barracading DX in their locker room so that nobody can help Chyna. Rock berates Triple H verbally, before taking it to Chyna. The Rock sees Chyna looking at him with bedroom eyes, and that the fuzzy feeling in her stomach will go away. He knows Chyna is a frustrated and tense women whenever she gets near The Rock. He's come to a conclusion, and that's she just needs to get some. JR says she's not an intern! LEWINSKY REFERENCE! He says come by his hotel at 1:30 and she may get lucky. She tries to attack, but The Nation pushes her down and the Rock says to keep her on her knees where she belongs and says it looks like a natural position. They pucker up her lips, and he goes to kiss her, but pulls away and says there is absolutely no way he'd ever kiss a piece a trash like her. He tells Mark Henry to give her the thrill of her life, but Shawn Michaels runs down to the ring and nails him with a chair then proceeds to gyrate on the announcers table.

- TAKA Michinoku vs. Val Venis
The match starts off pretty quick, with Val dominating. Venis powerbomed Taka, following an Asai moonsault. Taka went for a dropkick, but got another powerbomb. Taka went to the top and hit the Money Shot, and was about to win when Triple H hit Venis and TAKA with the chair. No Contest in 1:56. Quoted word for word: "Rocky, you crossed the line pal. Come SummerSlam, your role is gonna be real clear. You are gonna be MY BITCH!" Still one of my favorite moments in WWF history for some reason. I won't rate this match.
Winner: No Contest

- Following this match, the Highway to Hell promo hyping Austin and The Undertaker's match at SummerSlam aired. Great package.

The Bottom Line: This is a great tape to relive some pretty good WWF and in some forms, a few WCW ones. Wrestling was at it's peak at this time, obviously, so this tape has a good nostalgic feel. For me at least. It's not available anywhere else unless you buy it from me, but if it was available, I'd definately reccomend anyone to view it. I love watching this. It never gets old. Sure, there's a few stinkers on here, such as the Southern Justice matches, and the Goldberg/Giant match, but for you've got an AMAZING Tag Team Title match, a Hell in the Cell match which was decent, and Austin/Undertaker build up which was amazing at the time and still stands the test of time. All of that makes up for the bad shit. For this compilation, I rate it ***3/4 because it's a classic set of footage from a classic time period.
