Hahaha. MAVERICK Matt.
I swear, if they start putting his graphic on the bottom as "Maverick", I'm gonna be pissed off. In fact, if they do anything but call him "The Maverick" Matt Bentley, I'm gonna be pissed. Nothing else has the slightest of good rings to it. Not that he is all that special anyway.
And it only works if he calls Traci "Goose".
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2006 07:07 AM (GMT)
Please tell me you're kidding. Matt Bentley's new nickname is "Maverick Matt?" That's almost as bad as "Prince of Punk."
jamiegeist - March 7, 2006 07:21 AM (GMT)
Yeah, but it is worse. Tenay was saying "And the big Texan, from Dallas, Lancy Hoyt will go one on one with MAVERICK Matt after their partership fell apart on Xplosion. MAVERICK Matt made his comments earlier, and MAVERICK Matt is looking forward to taking the big Texan, from Dallas, down on PPV."
I wanted to just curl up in a ball and watch Nitro.
eStragand - March 7, 2006 07:04 PM (GMT)
ahem..that's "The Ticked-Off Texan from Dallas, Texas" to you, mister.
Not to be confused with "Samoa Joe the Samoan Submission Machine from the Isle of Samoa "
Allright, gimme a spoiler..who's the guy Jarrett's bringing in to fight Stinger? Our Pal Luger? of course, it's probably just Abyss or Bobby Roode. That was an awkward segment, where Jarrett just popped up and said "I've got his number on speed dial!" The anouncers had to explain that Jarrett was calling in a specialist.

As of late the name I've heard the most................Scott Steiner.
jamiegeist - March 7, 2006 08:55 PM (GMT)
I liked the way Jarrett was laying there, thinking of what he is gonna do. Then it hit him, so he popped up and says "We're Fine. I've got a plan. And I've got his number on speed dial".
I didn't see anything wrong with that, and thought it was a great cliffhanger.
Oh no. Just had a thought......Vampiro.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2006 08:57 PM (GMT)
Why would Jarrett have any of these people on his speed dial? Does he not have a family or something?
whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2006 09:05 PM (GMT)
Good point Scrooge. It must be Russo. They're supposed to be real tight.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2006 09:09 PM (GMT)
I wouldn't mind Russo coming back to try and give some of these guys characters. Maverick Matt? Prince of Punk? Test Jr? Come on...
whitemilesdavis - March 7, 2006 09:22 PM (GMT)
Yeah, then we could have Man-meat Matt.....you know.

Heh... that was my first thought as well.
..or Scott Hall.
With the stalking/filming angle, it came off to me like Jarrett was going to call Sting... that had me confused for a second.
Scrooge McSuck - March 7, 2006 09:42 PM (GMT)
That gives me an idea... maybe Alex Shelley will prank call Sting then have 15 pizza's delivered to him that he didn't order.
jamiegeist - March 7, 2006 11:33 PM (GMT)
Maybe Jarrett is calling The Roadie.
At least it would end the James Gang.
Mad Dog - March 20, 2006 01:58 PM (GMT)
You know, I think bringing in Steiner might be a good move for them after seeing the spoilers and this week's Impact. Think about it. He's only going to be doing 1 or 2 short squashes a month and probably tag work on PPV or garbage brawls. He won't get exposed and he'll only be working 3 times a month at most and only at risk for injury in one of those. So I think it's a good move if he's willing to job. I think a Rhino/Steiner feud might be fun.
Scrooge McSuck - March 20, 2006 02:09 PM (GMT)
He did the job to Test in less than 2 minutes, so I think it's possible for him to lay down in TNA. I still don't want him around. TNA should be pushing NEW stars to the main events, not recycling the same garbage that didn't work in WWE and WCW.
Mad Dog - March 20, 2006 02:14 PM (GMT)
He wasn't given a chance for success in the WWF though. HHH and co. went out of their way to completely bury the guy from day 1 there. By the time he was headlining WCW it was already too late for them. I don't see the problem with him being a mid-carder. You have to have some familiar faces with the new guys and Spike has wanted a second name for the company.
Scrooge McSuck - March 20, 2006 02:23 PM (GMT)
TNA has plenty of names.
Sting, Raven, Jarrett, Billy Gunn, BG James, Dudley Boyz, Konnan, Christian, Rhino, Uh... okay, so they don't have that many. But they only have a roster of like 25 people who aren't on the Job-Squad, so 10 recognizable names is pretty good.
Edit: I guess you could add Ron Killings to the list, too. Maybe Jeff Hardy if he ever comes back. And maybe Sabu.
Mad Dog - March 20, 2006 02:25 PM (GMT)
Yeah but Spike wanted big stars. They paid for Sting so if they were willing to do the same for Steiner, not saying they did, why not bring him in? They really don't bring in that many older stars when you consider the amount of indy talent they give a shot to.
Though I'm happier to see Norman Smiley back on the shows personally. Even if he is just a jobber.
dynamite kido - March 20, 2006 02:25 PM (GMT)
Honestly, I think Steiner makes them look low rent. Steiner was NEVER a factor in his WWF run and basically most people in wrestling have forgot his last WCW reign was about 6-7 years ago. He really brings nothing to the table as his name won't draw a dollar and he MAY be a locker room problem as well. So basically I understand the "bringing in familiar stars" thing and I was all for it for Sting and I'd be all for it for Goldberg. NOT Steiner though....
Big F'N Swigg - March 20, 2006 02:27 PM (GMT)
Face it, though, he is a good asshole heel. It's nice to have someone other than Jarrett on the microphone as a heel
Mad Dog - March 20, 2006 02:28 PM (GMT)
Steiner was a model citizen in the WWF though. If he behaves the same way in TNA then I don't see a problem with him.
I have several friends who haven't watched wrestling since about 2000 and I bet I could get all of them to tune in a few times by telling them that Scott Steiner is on tv again.
Scrooge McSuck - March 20, 2006 02:28 PM (GMT)
TNA's track record with old WCW guys isn't too great. What has Kevin Nash done for TNA? Or DDP? Randy Savage? The several chances given to Scott Hall back when? Hulk Hogan?
Those names are infinitely better than Scott Steiner on the drawing factor (okay, not Nash), and none of them did anything (or in Hogan's case, didn't even show up after they were building up a storyline!)
Big F'N Swigg - March 20, 2006 02:29 PM (GMT)
My uncle loves the dude. He couldn't figure out what was wrong with him in WWE. So this will probably get him watching.

Steiner is a better name than all those except Hogan and Savage, while being a decade younger than those two.
He was great in the last days of WCW, but was buried in WWE. He's obviously past his days of great matches, but I definitely think he'll draw interest. In fact, other than Goldberg or Lesnar, Steiner is the best "name" available.
eStragand - March 28, 2006 06:28 AM (GMT)
Sting wants a cage match with weapons on the roof? Oh dear....us want justice, us want Thunderdome.
I always like how the Steiner Recliner requires its comatose recipient to wrap his arms around Steiner's thighs and hold on so it can work (see: Andy Douglas this week).
Big F'N Swigg - March 28, 2006 02:31 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I really think he should do the wrapping himself. either that or just lay their arms back.
I REALLY liked the stalker segment. It made James Mitchell legitimately creepy, not just "old guy with creepy eyebrows" creepy. And lugging Shelley along is a great way to explain why there is a camera around.

Tread not upon statements with which you cannot legitimately claim to uphold. Hidden afar from the propaganda of your askant allegation is the fact that there remains one "name" above those of which you refer. In fact, this name is not so much simply a person, rather it transcends the spehere of normalcy and mortality. It exists singularly, purposely, demanedly and ultimately as one know as a ... Woy-yarrrr!! Rarrrrgh!
Moving on...
Yeah, Mitchell was creepy. Seeing that guy come up and talk to you in a public bus station would creep you out. But with all these videos, that makes Shelley the obligatory whipping boy or first victim for the offended face. Before Sting gets to Jarrett, he could tune up against Shelley. Same thing for Christian: Before he gets to Abyss, he could tune up with Shelley.
Sting's interview had a weak thread with the Thunderdome stuff... but otherwise I thought it was a killer promo. Sting on the mic makes me happy.

Dang.
Mad Dog - April 2, 2006 04:20 AM (GMT)
I love the Abyss and James Mitchell combo. They do a lot of nice little touches with them. Like having most of their promos in some remote, poorly lit part of the Impact Zone. They really need to give him more mic time.
Big F'N Swigg - April 2, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
I really think that Christopher Daniels would work well with them. Really explore the "Fallen Angel" aspect of his character
