Title: DWB Watcha Watchin thread
Description: March

I just noticed that we had no thread here like this...................but we used to. So time to bring it back. I've been off work for like 8 days with a mouth infection so I've been watchin plenty......
-Straight Shootin w/Cornette & Heenan Parts I and II
-1/27/06 Smackdown - One of the best SD's I've ever seen. Rey/Henry was solid, Orton/Benoit No Holds Barred was awesome, and MNM vs. Angle was pretty enjoyable too.
-WCW Starrcade 1995 - God I love this show..........this was the last really good part of WCW before Hogan really took it over. He was "suspended" at the time so no shitty Hogan match clogging the show, just New Japan vs. WCW goodness.
-Dr. Death Steve Williams shoot

I've been watching various crap while looking for a job (yes, Scrooge is putting in work aplications! What does this mean to DWB? Tune into That Hardcore dicussion show to find out!)...
11/85 SNME: The Halloween Stuff was a bit whacky (butElizabeth was pretty damn hot in her Jane costume), but Roddy Piper's segment from his "house" rules everything. None of the matches were terribly good, but SNME was to hype feuds, not have great matches.
1/87 SNME: Hogan/Orndorff cage was pretty good, but everything else feh.
Jake Roberts Pick Your Poison Documentary: I feel for the guy a lot more than I did before watching this. I still don't like some of the stuff he's done, but at least he knows he's no role model.
Various compilation matches that I haven't seen in a while, including some crappy early 90's WWF, a few Liger/Owen matches from Japan, and some WCW WrestleCrap from 1995 (King of the Road! Flair as a Woman! Hogan vs. Anyone!)

Strangely enough I watched the Jake/Martel blindfold match from Mania VII the other night. It still amazes me that the crowd is going that crazy for that match. OH THE POWER OF KAYFABE!!!!!!!!!
Hell of a story though for sure. I think it MAY be safe to say that Wrestlemania VII might have been the best Mania EVER for blowoffs. They blewoff Jake/Martel, Hogan/Slaughter, Warrior/Macho, all in one show. GREAT.

Just started my Flair DVD set last night.
Was a bit put off by the organization of the DVD, as I was expecting a Bret Hart like thing, with a big feature, followed by a shitload of matches.
It would work better if they had an actualy narration and build to the matches, instead of just random clips. Like for the Dusty/Flair build, they had clips with the Big Gold Belt, clips with the NWA Title, clips from a million different shows, obviously not in sequential order. As a WWF only fan growing up, it would help me to get a better outline of whats going on.
As for the matches, I prefered Dusty/Flair over Race/Flair's Cage Match. The Cage Match was just toooo plodding for me. I understand it was a different time and craft back then, but I was flat out bored for most of it. Especially with Special Ref Kiniski's horribly slow count. The Cage Match came in at maybe *** from me, with Dusty/Flair at about *** 3/4.
I'm avoiding any and all info on these matches on the DVD, so I'm suprised by anything that might happen that I don't know about. So don't fuck it up for me :)

Glad to see someone else but me isn't much in love with Race/Flair. Like you said, it's good for its time, but it aged horribly. I rewatched the Blanchard/Magnum T.A. cage from Starrcade '85 a few weeks ago, and it's still a kickass, brutal match.

All things Vader.
The Sting and Cactus Jack feuds from WCW, vs. Flair from WCW, some AJPW Vader, and even some UWF Vader vs. Takada.
In short, Vader is god.

Which reminded me................I watched the JAPW produced Vader shoot the other night. Nothing TOO eye opening, but his recollection of his match with HBK at Summerslam 96 was fucking awesome. Basically Michaels thought he was picking him up from the mat too stiff. He basically threatened to tell Vince and get him fired if he didn't loosen up. Vader basically was stunned that he would pull that shit in the ring and he even said that he wasn't working that stiff with him at all.
So yes, Vader IS god.......and anything with Takada on it rules. I got a 4 disc comp of his coming to me anyday now that I can wait to sit down and watch.

I downloaded a few episodes of Saturday Night's Main Event from PWTorrents. Gonna check 'em out soon.

Hulk Still Rules. The documentary SUCKS. Too much "kayfabe." Hopefully the new set is much better. Oh, and choice line of the DVD...
Hulk Hogan: I get off on working with Triple H.
Edit: How the fuck did Koko B. Ware get in the main event of Survivor Series '88?! I can understand Hillbilly Jim, since he was Hogan's Hillbilly lacky, but Koko? I don't remember him havng any bond with Savage, HBJ, or Hercules, and only remember him teaming with Hogan once on a Coliseum Video exclusive from May '87.

Getting more and more excited the further I get into this Flair DVD.
The Windham TV Time Limit Draw was AWESOME and I had no clue Barry Windham was ever good at all, not to mention ever looked that good for an entire match. Commercials hurt it, otherwise, it was damn good and fun, about ****1/4 for me.
All the special feature are the shit. Just random awesome interviews that I'm sure haven't been seen anywhere since their original airing.
Then we move on to disc 2: The Steamboat disc. More awesome promos and buildup, and I can't help but think Steamboat would get boo-ed to hell in today's day and age of wrestling with his clean cut style as opposed to Flair's stylin and profilin.
And I come to another match that I've never ever seen, or didn't know the finish of, and what I will defend up and down as a ***** match, Flair v Steamboat from Clash of the Champions VI, 2/3 falls, and barely clocking in under the 1 hour time limit at 54 minutes. Just fuckin AWESOME. I don't even know how, but this felt twice as short as a 13 minute RAW tag match. Just a testament to the incredible work in that match. I could watch it again right now, and it would kick ass again.
Then WrestleWar, which was also incredible, but somehow feels short at 30:00 after enjoying that last match. ****3/4 for still being virtually flawless, but it kind of felt like it was just building to something else, which was obvious by the post-match activities, which I also viewed for the first time here. Awesome crazy old man promo by Funk, who then turns just vicious crazy and kicks the shit out of him.
I skipped the Funk part to move on to Rumble 92, which I'm watching right now. This has to be the most incredible collection of awesome talent ever in one match here. I love it. Dibiase getting dumped before Flair even hits the ring is an injustice.
Anyway.....thats what I'm watching.

I'm nowhere close to being a big fan, but they picked a great selection for the Flair DVD. Only gripe: Why Sting/Flair from Clash XXVII and not the 1st Clash? Flair made Sting a contender in the first Clash. Wouldn't it be better to showcase that instead?

I watched part III of the Straight Shootin w/ Heenan & Cornette. UNREAL. This time they are at Corny's house going through his WRESTLING ATTIC. I know most of you have heard about his kick ass wrestling room, but he moved and now it's his entire attic. One of the most entertaining things I've ever seen regarding the business of pro wrestling. It was absolutely fasinating.

Watching a Miracle Violence Connection comp. a friend of mine made for me a few years ago. I appreciate this stuff so much more now than I did back then. I even called him up earlier and told him how awesome it was. He forgot he even made it for me, but we ended up watching part of it today.

I'm finally watching the WWE 2004 Hall of Fame DVD. Just checking out the induction ceremony for right now.. Pretty good stuff.

Skimmed through the WWF @ Meadowlands show held on July 15th, 1984.
Pretty good main event in the form of Hogan/Andre vs. Adonis/Murdoch/Studd, and the undercard isn't too shabby (decent Blair/Orndorff and Snuka/Piper matches, plus a Mil Mascaras appearence). Weird that I just noticed 4 of the 5 participants in that tag match are dead, and the other is a bit past his prime.
A bit being the biggest under-statement ever.
Real F'n Show - March 21, 2006 01:08 AM (GMT)
Been on a Deathmatch kick as of late, so I watched an old BJPW comp. I had made a few years ago. This is the glory days of BJPW too, the tape ends before the CZW invasion thankfully.
The two Yamakawa versus Honma matches still hold up as the two greatest deathmatches I have ever seen, and the Yamakawa/Honma versus Shadow WX/Winger tag deathmatch is fucking awesome as well. I forgot how fucking good Yamakawa and especially Honma were.
Now I'm downloading some Itoh deathmatches, as he's supposed to be really good...
TheGreatWhiteChoate - March 23, 2006 06:04 AM (GMT)
Just watched the 2006 Royal Rumble with Plague. I was marking out big time for Rey Rey winning, and I thought the Rumble itself was pretty damn good. Edge and Cena was nothing special, and neither was Angle/Henry until the Undertaker worked his voodoo.
But yeah, Rey winning the Rumble makes me a happy Choate.
prof_plague - March 23, 2006 04:57 PM (GMT)
The final four were pretty good and the last few eliminations are really nice.
eStragand - March 28, 2006 04:52 PM (GMT)
Watched Samoa Joe, the Samoan Submission Machine from the Isle of Samoa vs. AJ Styles from....November of last year (Turning Point, I think)? Great match. Dug the spot where Joe spun Styles into the guard rail. Styles also hit a nice, stiff-looking drop kick to Joe's dome.
Only thing I didn't like was the Christopher Daniels run-in. Always seems less spontaneous to me when a guy is so enraged at his opponent that he can't stand it and runs to the ring...but not before telling production to cue his music.
