Title: More RoH Stupidity

Mad Dog - March 2, 2006 09:58 PM (GMT)
Say goodbye to Jay Lethal. He's gone so gone. It appears they're going to try and pull rank on the guys working RoH and TNA.

dynamite kido - March 2, 2006 10:02 PM (GMT)
Ring of Honor dropped Jay Lethal from any future bookings after writing him out last weekend at the Fourth Anniversary event in Edison, New Jersey. Lethal had lost clean to Samoa Joe. ROH sources confirmed this morning that Lethal was done with the company, although one source commented, "for now."

QUOTE
It appears that Lethal's departure likely has to do with with underlying heat stemmin from missing the Long Island, New York event several weeks back when TNA pulled talent to insure they would make the Against All Odds PPV.

Ring of Honor has not publicly commented on the departure yet.

Here's the "official" version of it ....................I guess.

So what's up with all the rats jumping ship. Miliano, Low-Ki and Jay Lethal all in the expanse of 2 months. Is Gabe getting to be that hard to deal with?

Well I've heard recently that Low-Ki left because of a money issue and NOT because of jobbing. ROH really needs to work it's shit out, because if they keep getting on the badside of TNA they are fucked as a company.

Mad Dog - March 2, 2006 10:19 PM (GMT)
I think Gabe half believes the net hype and might actually think that he can win in a battle with them.

Who the fuck knows anymore. I'm starting to think that Gabe's been getting a big head ever since he was voted best booker in the WON and the fact that Meltzer has put over some of their matches as *****. Which is cool and all but the dude needs to realize that he's not booking All Japan from the 90's..........he's a fucking indy promoter.

Mad Dog - March 2, 2006 10:29 PM (GMT)
It's funny seeing the RoHbots act like losing certain guys aren't a big deal. They're already trying to revise Miliano leaving because Gabe drove him nuts to try and make it sound like Gabe was the innocent in the whole thing.

But then I've never trusted the guy. I still believe he was 100% in on trying to keep RF with the company in 04.

The Last Free Voice - March 3, 2006 02:27 AM (GMT)
Well, that sucks. Leathal was poised to have a breakout year. It'll be interesting to see how ROH rebounds from losing some talent in the first quarter of this year...

jamiegeist - March 3, 2006 08:56 PM (GMT)
I think Lethal is still poised for a breakout year, because I'm thinking TNA might want to go with Lethal/Joe after AJ and Daniels are out of the picture. They've been building Lethal lately, and reportedly they have great chemistry?

I wouldn't count on seeing anything with Lethal/Joe for a while. Apparently they are thinking of bringing in Shinsuke Nakamura to work with Joe. Although he may come in for DX, so that may not happen either.

jamiegeist - March 4, 2006 05:52 PM (GMT)
Don't want to get too off topic, but I'd really like to see them do something, or someone new with Joe after the PPV. I'd like to see Rhino go after him, who is currently just kind of floating in limbo anyway. He could address the fact that the X Division is full of young guys, and none of them seem to be able to stop Joe...but he hasn't come face to face with a WAR MACHINE yet.

I'd actually be really interested to see a nice long match between the two, and I think the Impact Zone is behind Rhino enough that Joe could be a real heel for a bit. This won't happen, but to me would be awesome.

Mad Dog - March 4, 2006 06:25 PM (GMT)
I was actually thinking that TNA might be very slowly building Lethal up to be the guy that beats Samoa Joe in the summer/fall.

dynamite kido - March 4, 2006 06:37 PM (GMT)
For some reason I see Joe losing in Ultimate X. I know that it doesn't look like it and honestly it wouldn't make a world of sense to do it, but I still for some reason think that he's dropping the belt.

Big F'N Swigg - March 7, 2006 12:42 AM (GMT)
On the ROH thing, I've thought they should go the route of bringing in new names. Kind of like the Rebirth deal.

I mean, if I were running it, that's what I'd do. I'd rather have stars I could job than several stars I might be able to job on occasion

prof_plague - March 7, 2006 01:15 AM (GMT)
Basically the guys who RoH made popular are now too big, and RoH can't afford them.

Very true. They've also moved on to bigger, and better things.

Scrooge McSuck - March 18, 2006 11:47 PM (GMT)
The people who were made big or ROH in general? I hope you mean the actual performers, because ROH on paper looked really good in 2003 and now the results seem to show a lot more of their younger guys in the undercard than before. I guess since Joe lost the title, it's been downhill. :P

The Last Free Voice - March 19, 2006 12:27 AM (GMT)
I wouldn't go THAT far. Aries' run was pretty consistanly good-great. And I loved Punk's run, myself (I was thinking of doing a series of reviews of those shows, all in order, but I realized no one here would want to read them). If anything, it'd be after Punk lost the belt they kind of lost direction. Gibson didn't seem to have a top feud, and aside from his mini program with Strong, niether has Danielson.

Scrooge McSuck - March 19, 2006 12:32 AM (GMT)
I won't argue match ratings since I don't watch ROH, but it seemed like ROH totally flubbed on Aries. He beat Joe, the unbeatable reigning champ for 2 years, and what did they do with him? He dropped it to a guy signed by WWE a few months later with very little fanfare. Then as you mentioned, a pointless reign by James Gibson (another guy WWE had signed already), and Danielson hasn't been making many headlines as champ like Joe did.

The Last Free Voice - March 19, 2006 01:02 AM (GMT)
Aries' reign was good for the sheer number of defences. I think he actually defeneded the belt more than Joe did, but I'm not sure on the numbers. I do know that he had great matches up and down though. He even managed to make "Serious" Colt Cabana seem like a threat.

And the Punk Aries match had no fanfare? Are you nuts? The crowd was booing Aries' every move, and I'm pretty sure it was one of their top selling DVD's of the year. It's not like WWE or TNA where you have buyrates and ratings to go by.

Big F'N Swigg - March 19, 2006 03:39 AM (GMT)
Voice, if it makes you write them, I'll definitely read a review of the Punk reign

The Last Free Voice - March 19, 2006 04:27 AM (GMT)
Really? Okay then. I'll get cracking on it over spring break. I was thinking of only reviewing the Punk related segments on each show, rather than ALL of each show...

Big F'N Swigg - March 19, 2006 03:52 PM (GMT)
However you want to pull it, man. I've been itching to see what his reign was like

The Last Free Voice - March 19, 2006 05:48 PM (GMT)
I'll do my best to keep my Punk Bias to a minimum, but I can't make any promises. I haven't really sat down to watch his Draw with Daniels in depth yet, I just kind of half-watched it when I first got it... His matches with Lethal and Strong were really great though.

dynamite kido - March 19, 2006 07:43 PM (GMT)
I've just gotten in a bunch of Punk's reign and I'm actually looking forward to watching it. I'm pretty curious to see myself how his reign came off.....

The Last Free Voice - March 19, 2006 08:11 PM (GMT)
Which shows did you get, DK?

I know that these aren't all of Punk's reign, but these are all the ROH's I had come in over the last week or so....

-ROH Sign of Dishonor

-ROH Fate of an Angel

-ROH The Homecoming

-ROH Redemption

-ROH Night of the Grudges II

-ROH Dragon Gate Invasion

-ROH Showdown In Motown

The Last Free Voice - March 20, 2006 02:35 AM (GMT)
I was at Redemption, great show. I quite liked Sign of Dishonor too. Do you have Escape from New York?

FoaA and Homecoming are the two I haven't really watched seriously.

Yeah, I also got Escape from New York. Too bad my watching will be starting again with Death Before Dishonor III though. I have some SERIOUS catching up to do in my ROH watchin.

I think I'm going to do the Punk era review as DBDIII-The Final Chapter. It really feels like one complete story, to me.
