Pretty self-explanatory. Anything you think is particuarly clever or meaningful or perhaps something by Celine Dion (Scrooge) goes here. I'll kick it off with a few off the top of my head:

Envisioning the here-after, listening to Steve Wonder
On a quest for love like the Proceed drummer
I strike like lightning and don't need thunder
Inhale imagination and breathe wonder
- Common

I never sleep, cause sleep is the cousin of death
- Nas

Stick my dick in your eardrum and fuck what you heard
- Ras Kass

All you touch and all you see,
Is all your life will ever be.
- - Pink Floyd

I am going to die
And I've come to terms with that
But the when, where, and how's where the concern is at
It's fucked up that I'll be dead when I've learned all of that
Fact is we mustn't fear it
For fear is the mind killer
Elijah wanted to die and there ain't nothing iller
There's life and there's death
All else is just filler
So that situation you millin' that got you hella stressed
Trust it won't mean shit once you take your last breath

"Love Your Hate, Your Faith Lost, You are Now, One of Us..." A.F.I.

"Nothing From Nowhere I'm No One at all, Radiate Recognize one silent call as we all form one dark flame..." Also AFI

"A Firestorm to Purify" EarthxCrisis

"Hear the song of Night Tide... It's been ages since I felt so alive... at long last I find you and it ends... the lonelyness we feel which they can never understand..." - Tiger Army

"Open my eyes as I submurge and I won't deny what I've been since birth, I'll die drowned by your standards" AFI

Man. Lots more. Those are just the ones that first popped into my head.

A good chunk of Anthrax's "Caught in a Mosh" has some of my favorites.

"talking to you, is like clapping with one hand.."
"where you dropped as a baby, or did they do that?"

I paraphrase the Phish version of Snoop Dogg's "Gin & Juice" and sing it to my dog:
"so much trouble in the MHC, kinda' hard bein' Ace D-O- double G"

I like Clutch's "Burning Beard", with the line: "tippin' cows in Fields Elysian.."

With yellow eyes, my green face, my pink and white afro
I'm no toy kid, your style is made by Hasbro
.......
You be there, like Michael Jackson in my atmosphere
Gerbils for rectums, I break you off like Richard Gere
...........
Think about it, if you was there standing looking at me
What would you do, if I hit your face with dog doodoo?
Smear purple flies on your forehead
Spit in your salad, vomit on your brother's breakfast
Take your ass outside, burn your mother's house
Bring pet mice, and scare your sister with my gray mouse
Then drop him under the bed, and leave him there dead
Take out your parakeet, with scissors, clip his head
Then get the charcoal, whassup, burn your dog's legs
Walk by the barbershop, and hit the glass with eggs
Then go in the club and dance, mix the alcohol
Great with roach spray, here's a drink, have a ball

You know, I'm not a fan of lyrics. You only need lyrics in music if you are instrumentally not good enough to convey emotion without them.

Way to turn your nose up at us, you wine tasting fancypants.

whitemilesdavis - February 28, 2006 09:16 PM (GMT)
I said that wrong. You don't even have to be good, just creative enough to find a sound that matches a feeling. Being proficient at your instrument only gives you more choices when trying to find that sound.

Big F'N Swigg - February 28, 2006 09:30 PM (GMT)
I can understand what you're saying. But you also have to consider that lyrics are basically the only way modern culture accepts poetry.

And most people writing lyrics can't convey emotion with instruments. That's why they're singers/lyricists

TheGreatWhiteChoate - February 28, 2006 09:50 PM (GMT)
I was just kidding anyways. I agree that some of the best stuff has no lyrics whatsoever, and that you can have a great song with what may be bad lyrics. But there are definitely some great lyrics being written out there....you just have to dig sometimes.

The Last Free Voice - March 1, 2006 03:32 AM (GMT)
As someone who is quickly finding himself quite horrible at the musical end of the spectrum, but good at conveying myself through words, I think songs, as an art form, are so much better when BOTH are firing on the same level. A good song will convey its feeling through the music or the lyrics, a GREAT song will do it through both.

At least that's my opinion.

For the record, I hate Celine Dion.

(puts on Barry Manilow CD)

jamiegeist - March 1, 2006 07:26 AM (GMT)
Who the fuck likes Celine Dion?

Obviously she sells records and concerts and shit. I might like, maybe 1 Celine Dion song ever. She is just so fuckin awkward, and weird, and canadian.

And do people really think Mariah Carey is good again?*

*poses that question, assuming you thought Mariah Carey was good in like 92, before she was a dirty hobag, and when she was singing Jackson 5 covers.

Once she went crazy and put that dog whistle in her voice, I was done.

To return us to the topic: "I found myself alone, alone, alone above the raging sea, the story of the girl I loved, drowned her deep inside of me..."- The Cure

So if the devil wants to dance with you, you'd better say never
Because a dance with the devil, might last you forever

This one just jumped into my head, and I'm kicking myself for not having it in my first post...

"Today I offer up my self to this, I'm living for my dying wish..." Rise Against

Here...I'll save ya' about 52 more posts, LFV:

"The sorrow I reap has been sown by your rejection" - Any Emo Band

Yer' welcome

The Last Free Voice - March 2, 2006 02:32 AM (GMT)
Um, no. I think we've established many a time that while I do look like the perfect Emo kid, I do not like Emo music. Please refrain from insinuating that I do, or next time, I use my Mod powers.

QUOTE
I ?black the temper?
Never seen the face of truth
Sweet Mr. Jesus
Infected on my skin
Deep mist around you
I'm crawling on the side
?Sheep for another?
Another taste of life

It's alive, yeah everybody
It's alive, who will stop me?

Dead ?barks? around you
Crawl in a river black
I ??
He's falling on the way,
Out with another
A falling wall of sound
Say that you love it,
Don't make me turn it down

[chorus]

Born to kill,
Black, blue and bloody fingers
?Hong Kong? head
?? gonna face this wheel
Now tell me smooth,
I'll tell the pussycats
And ultra- pain,
I'll blow it all away

Real F'n Show - July 2, 2006 06:16 PM (GMT)
Holy shit. There's only one "yeah" in that song. Gotta be a Zombie first...
