Title: Where do you work?
Real F'n Show - December 8, 2004 01:36 AM (GMT)
I work at a True Value hardware store, and know nothing about hardware. I basically stumble through helping people find things all the while having no idea what I'm doing. I actually got a raise once too, which seemed strange. I have no idea why I was hired, I guess the interviewer liked me or something. I knew nothing about hardware when I was hired, but I'm quickly catching onto things.
So what do you guys do for a living?
Scrooge McSuck - December 8, 2004 02:46 AM (GMT)
To quote George Castanza from Seinfeld, "I'm unemployed and I live with my parents". At least I finished High School though...and I'm not bald.
Previously worked at Publix Supermarket though, for about 16 months before I gave up about getting any kind of promotion to another department.
TheLegendErnieRowe - December 8, 2004 03:29 AM (GMT)
I have two part-time jobs. I work as a cashier at Best Buy and I work in a deli at Hannaford.
Both can be found in Concord, NH :)
dynamite kido - December 8, 2004 06:08 AM (GMT)
I work for the University of Pittsburgh.....for the Student Affairs dept.....
theintensifier - December 8, 2004 08:53 AM (GMT)
I used to work at the local Big Boy restaurant.
BUT, now I am free of that shit hole, and on January 3rd, I am going to be going into basic training for the United States Marine Corp.
The Last Free Voice - December 10, 2004 12:38 AM (GMT)
I work at the awesome BD'S Mongolian BBQ. And I don't say awesome just because I work there. I LOVE eating there, so when I got hired, I was thrilled. Everyone should check us out.
Mad Dog - December 10, 2004 11:09 PM (GMT)
I own a cleaning business.

You will die.
Okay seriously, I work for a fairly large public relations firm in Pittsburgh.
TehDoct0r - January 4, 2005 05:57 PM (GMT)
I'm a college student, but when I'm at home I work for the town and the school district taking care of the athletic fields. I make decent money for it, considering I was a freshman in high school when I began doing it. When I was accepted to Fordham University, I was actually offered a job at Yankee Stadium, but I ended up going to Albany due to financial concerns. I need to find a job up there now
TheGreatWhiteChoate - March 28, 2006 03:51 AM (GMT)
I'm in college now, but during this summer and the last I worked at an Audubon store, renting out canoes and putting up with annoying tourists.

I can't believe I ever liked my job this much. :(
SamoaRowe - March 28, 2006 04:24 AM (GMT)
I still work at Best Buy and Hannaford :ph43r:
The Last Free Voice - March 28, 2006 04:32 AM (GMT)
I've been at BD's 16 months. Average life span of a Host? Four or five. It's really depressing how shitty my situation there has turned, when I used to have so much fun.
SamoaRowe - March 28, 2006 04:35 AM (GMT)
I've been a cashier at Best Buy for 32 months :( The span of life for a cashier there is less than a year (they either quit or transfer departments).
Honestly, I like working there just enough to not quit and I've got a comfortable niche in my department. I have flirted with the idea of transfering many times, but I don't think the other departments would accomodate my screwy availibility (due to school) that operations does.
And as of July, I'll have been with Hannaford for two years (though in all fairness, during the school year I only work weekends).
The Last Free Voice - March 28, 2006 04:38 AM (GMT)
Yeah. I only work weekends. What sucks is that I can only host. Gotta be 18 to grill and 19 to serve. So I'm stuck bussing tables for another six months.
TheGreatWhiteChoate - March 28, 2006 04:45 AM (GMT)
The problem with any job is that you grow to at least dislike some of it after a certain point. Back when I worked at Toys 'R Us, it seemed like a dream job for a high school kid, but thanks to Yu-gay-oh and parents I was burnt out after a year.
eStragand - March 28, 2006 04:50 AM (GMT)
I'm the "creative director" for a laboratory equipment company. I've leveraged it so that I only work four days a week. On Mondays I do my freelancing. I design publication ads, logos, websites and sides of trucks (!).
whitemilesdavis - March 28, 2006 01:18 PM (GMT)
I am Sales Coordinator for a small engineering firm. Been here 3 years and love it. I am presently playing music 3 or 4 night s a weeks on top of that, which helps too.
Big F'N Swigg - March 28, 2006 02:36 PM (GMT)
I do nothing. I'm hopefully moving to Boston in a few months, so I'm going to try and get a job at Starbucks or Best Buy to bide my time and pay my bills
whitemilesdavis - March 28, 2006 03:10 PM (GMT)
You should move to North Carolina.
No jobs, but it's a great place to live.
Big F'N Swigg - March 28, 2006 03:20 PM (GMT)
I want to settle down in either North Carolina or Tennessee.
I've got family in both.
whitemilesdavis - March 28, 2006 03:26 PM (GMT)
Well why are you moving to Boston? Also, Tennessee sucks.
Big F'N Swigg - March 28, 2006 03:31 PM (GMT)
I'm going to hopefully get accepted to Grad School there. And watch the Red Sox
And it's WHERE in Tennessee. East Tennessee=AWESOME, West Tennessee=AWFUL
whitemilesdavis - March 28, 2006 03:41 PM (GMT)
East Ten. is only acceptable because of it's proximity to NC.
Ah, I like the Gatlinburg area fine. Nashville sucks. Memphis sucks except for Graceland, which is my Mecca. Where do you have family?
And what school are you looking at in Boston?
Big F'N Swigg - March 28, 2006 08:12 PM (GMT)
I've got family in Johnson City & Cleveland.
And yeah, Nashville & Memphis are the pits. Memphis has some seriously aggressive homeless people. I really wish that the State of Franklin would have been a reality. It would mean that East Tennessee & Western North Carolina would be one state. Which actually makes sense to me.
And I'm applying to Boston U. & Northeastern
whitemilesdavis - March 28, 2006 08:17 PM (GMT)
Boston U is awesome....expensive, but great. I almost went there for undergrad. Finances got in the way, but I really wanted to go. Don't know much about Northwestern.
Yeah, those homeless people in Memphis are rough. You have to sprint from one store to the next to stay away from them.
Big F'N Swigg - March 28, 2006 08:19 PM (GMT)
One dude chased me and the wife five blocks asking for money in exchange for flowers. Honestly, I had no cash or I would've given him some. But try telling HIM that.
whitemilesdavis - March 28, 2006 08:23 PM (GMT)
The last time I was there I had a guy grab me on Beale St. I was gonna punch him, but he started yelling something about a magic trick. It was a crappy trick, but I gave him two bucks to get away.
Big F'N Swigg - March 28, 2006 08:24 PM (GMT)
At least the homeless people in Dayton just ask you outright. I hate people that try to do tricks for it. It's horribly annoying
dynamite kido - March 28, 2006 09:13 PM (GMT)
Fuck that. Homeless people here in Pittsburgh ask you for change for BEER.
whitemilesdavis - March 28, 2006 09:23 PM (GMT)
I like Pittsburgh. It's kind of an ugly city, but the people seem nice, and the zoo is cool.

Say something bad about the Steelers. The niceness will die directly in front of your face.
otherwise, you're pretty much spot on.
Big F'N Swigg - March 28, 2006 10:34 PM (GMT)
Honestly, the Steelers are probably the most respectable team in football. They don't do a lot of free agent signings, they don't piss on their players, and they've had the same coach for God knows how long.
Otherwise, fuck em. WHO DEY, BITCH?
TheGreatWhiteChoate - March 28, 2006 10:39 PM (GMT)
One of the most annoying things about living in New England is the Red Sox fans. It's one thing to be so arrogant that you barely even realize there's baseball being played outside of the AL East, but it's another thing to be taunted by Sox fans for having beat the Cardinals when the Cards have taken TWO World Series against them.
There, my rant's done. Pittsburgh's cool, too.

I'm not saying all Red Sox fans are annoying, but there are really insufferable ones. Patriots fans, too.
Big F'N Swigg - March 28, 2006 10:44 PM (GMT)
Oh, fuck the Patriots. They can kiss my ass.
But man, do I love the Sox.
But I promise, I'm not that stupid about it
