Title: WWE DVD's
Description: What SHOULD they put out?
dynamite kido - February 19, 2006 07:32 PM (GMT)
I was thinking about this considering that most of us here at DWB have either killer tape collections of we've downloaded everything under the sun to our computers. So what would WE as serious wrestling fans want to see on DVD? I just figured I'd throw this out there to see what you guys would say.......here's some of my ideas
How about a Saturday's Night Main Event season's DVD. They could release them by year (85,96,97,88,89,90,91,92) and this could have been a GREAT way to get people all jazzed for the upcoming SNME in March on NBC.
Best of Ric Flair the Mid Atlantic years
A Ricky Steamboat career retrospective
WWE Freebirds DVD
How about some NWA or WCW PPV's?
What do you guys think?

I was thinking a Ricky Steamboat DVD as well when I read the topic title.
jamiegeist's little tournament in General Wrestling got me thinking that a "Greatest Tag Teams" set would rule too.
Still waiting on the Horsemen set.
Vol. 2's for Flair, Bret, Benoit, Eddie, Rey, etc. would not be a bad thing.

I'd kill for a SNME DVD set, but they'd butcher them by editing out licensed music (the opening from 1985-87 with "Obession", Hogan's "Eye of the Tiger", anything to do with Cyndi Lauper, etc.).
I also wouldn't mind a DVD devoted to Sting. :)

I thought of some more I'd like to see....
The History of the WWWF World title
Greatest IC matches of all time
Bob Backlund Collection
Flair/Bret Vol 2's
Randy Savage Collection
Steve Austin Anthology
TNT (Tuesday Night Titans) DVD

Need some help. Thanks to a free poker site that awards giftcards and other shit, I have 35 amazon bucks to do something with, and was thinking of getting a good wrestling DVD. Any recomendations as to some of the top titles? I own the Bret Hart one, as well as ECW's Rise and Fall.

Well honestly it depends on what you are in the mood for or what you are going for.
For the best wrestling matches....
Hard Knocks: The Chris Benoit story
Cheating Death, Stealing Life - The Eddie Guerrero story
The Ultimate Ric Flair collection
These are all golden if you are in the mood for the best matches possible.
These are great simply for nostalgia. SOME matches may be really good and others bad......................but that's not the point of these.
20 years too soon The Superstar Billy Graham Story (Good feature and some okay matches......but I think there's only like 5 matches on it.)
The Monday Night Wars (The feature is 2nd best they've ever done IMO only behind The Rise and Fall of ECW)
Jake "The Snake" Roberts - Pick Your Poison (I've been watching this recently because I just got it. There's a few okay matches and a few terrible ones, but the nostalgia on here is great and it's an AWESOME look at his career.)
other notable ones.....
Mick Foley - Greatest Hits and Misses
Rey Mysterio - 619
Rob Van Dam - One of a Kind
2004 Hall of Fame DVD - this one is one of my personal favorties, and there are some cool bonus matches on there as well
Road Warriors - Good DVD, not the greatest of matches........but if you're even remotely in a Road Warriors or NWA mood............GET IT.
Also, I don't know how available they are, but I scored the Best of The Intercontinental Title DVD and the Andre the Giant DVD's for both under 10 bucks when they were released...............don't be shy'd away for how short they are........they're both worth the pick up if you don't own the old VHS of these that they released (they were just old WWF home video's that they remastered and put out on DVD)

A Steamboat set would be awesome, but I'd also like to see a Rise and Fall of Mid-Atlantic set.

At this point, I'd take ANYTHING Mid-Atlantic.

Yeah, and I had the privelage of growing up on the stuff. It would seem to be a narrow scope for a DVD, but when the match list came out, people would go crazy for it.

I really wonder how much Mid-Atlantic stuff they have in their vaults? I know it's significant, but they gotta have some hidden gems.

Well, I think they own all the footage. The TV shows were OK. Basically one-hour squash shows, but there was some really good angle development on those shows. The house shows were typically great, and they also ran these bigger "supercard" type house shows that I would kill to have on DVD. Of course later, they started doing closed-circuit and PPV. So the real question is; what all did Crockett film? I've seen clips of shows here and there that make me believe that tape library is massive. I'd venture to guess Vince could put out a 3-disc set with nothing but Steamboat - Flair matches. Include the Promos and TV spots, and that could be a great set.

Actually, that's what I was trying to say. I don't know what all Crockett recorded. But if they DO have everything, they could put out some of the best DVD sets ever released with Mid-Atlantic's catalog.

Went with the Flair collection. For some reason, just never did check it out.
