Title: Gabe + overhyping = dissappointing
Description: ROH results

dynamite kido - February 12, 2006 07:31 AM (GMT)
-Apparently there has been stuff on the ROH newswire this week promising something big will happen at this show because of Low-Ki no longer being with the company and the matchup of Roderick and him having to be cancelled. Gabe hyped this shit out of it this week too........

Before the event

QUOTE
Scherer is reporting that Homicide, Alex Shelley, and Jay Lethal have all been asked by TN to get to Orlando ASAP because of inclement weather in the North East.

For what it's worth, Strong and Aries got the same request, but chose to work ROH tonight.

Sucks for them, first they lose Ki vs Strong, and now they lose Shelley vs Dragon.

Results so far, from Tom Bobo of the ROH board

a) Smash Bradley & Bobby Dempsey over Rick Titus & Keenan Quinn

B) Derek Dempsey defended the Top of the Class Trophey over Shane Hagadorn

1) ADAM PEARCE over PELLE PRIMEAU & MITCH FRANKLIN...Pelle and Franklin were set to square off, but Pearce interrupted and took on and beat both men. He then declared that he'd be sitting at ringside...right in front of GLF!

-JULIUS SMOKES and THE GRIM REEFER came out. COLT CABANA'S theme soon followed, but turned into MISERIA CANTARE over the audio system and....

CM PUNK returns to ROH tonight!!!! (The crowd went absolutely APE!)

Punk started his promo by saying that he does not have a lot of friends...because some people think he's cocky and he even said he went so far as to try and rub off his tattoos last week.

He was then attacked by Adam Pearce, only to be saved by COLT CABANA.

Punk then asked Cabana why he changed. Punk said that Cabana's mom had even called and asked where she could find Colt.

Cabana told Punk he doesn't need his Dad to be a father-figure and he doesn't need Punk to be a father-figure.

Punk left the ring and Cabana was jumped by GRIM REEFER.

2) COLT CABANA over GRIM REEFER with a lariat

3) RICKY REYES over KID MIKAZE

4) NIGEL MCGUINNESS retained the PURE TITLE over AUSTIN ARIES in a reportedly "really good" match

*RETURN DATE TO LAKE GROVE, NY is FRIDAY, MAY 12th*

-RODERICK STRONG hit the ring and called out BRYAN DANIELSON. He stated that since he is the #1 contender to the title, he should get his shot tonight.

BJ WHITMER came out and told Strong he was tired of being passed over and challenged him for the #1 contendership.

BRYAN DANIELSON made his way out and told Strong that he was going to give him the title shot tonight, but.....Strong doesn't deserve it.

PRINCE NANA made his way out and stated that since he could not secure Alex Shelley's flight from Ghana that he was bringing out one of the first members of The Embassy and the 2nd ever ROH Champion, XAVIER!!!

5) BRYAN DANIELSON over XAVIER via DQ to retain the ROH WORLD TITLE due to interference from JIMMY RAVE

Rave attacked Danielson and CM PUNK made the save, only to be attacked again by ADAM PEARCE.

It appears the main event will be DANIELSON/PUNK v. RAVE/PEARCE.

6) JIMMY YANG over JERRELLE CLARK, AZRIEAL, & JASON BLADE in a 4CS

7) RODERICK STRONG over BJ WHITMER...following the match, Whitmer would not shake hands.

8) CM PUNK & BRYAN DANIELSON over JIMMY RAVE & ADAM PEARCE when PUNK made RAVE submit.

Wow, what a shitty show.

My thoughts exactly...........although I will say that it hurt it more because of the TNA guys that got pulled, but then again I don't blame TNA either.

But it hurt it more that Gabe was going apeshit all week and people were basically calling Punk as the surprise all week.

It was funny seeing the bots on the RoH boards whining that Shelley picked TNA. Who can hate on a guy for choosing the better pay and the better exposure.

So I think I'm officially giving RoH 6 months to keep me as a fan. This means stringing together more than a good show or two without months of average to crappy shows. I'm not willing to pay for the watered down crap they've been putting out for a solid year now.

prof_plague - February 12, 2006 05:44 PM (GMT)
What's the date for this show?

Mad Dog - February 12, 2006 05:52 PM (GMT)
Yesterday.

2/11......

prof_plague - February 12, 2006 05:54 PM (GMT)
Ew.

I won't quit being a fan of ROH, but honestly it's pretty weird where they've been lately. I used to want EVERY ROH show, and you've talked to me for a while on the net MD..............so I think you at least know how long I've stuck with ROH........but that has changed over the last 6 months or so. Now I really only get the shows that interest me. Before I used to want to get them all and watch them in order to keep up on the storylines and whatnot. Now I just get the best looking shows to me..........and basically I don't order anything off of ROH themselves. I get everything through traders if at all......

Mad Dog - February 13, 2006 03:08 AM (GMT)
I'll still follow it on the net and download big matches here and there. My DVD buying from them is probably over. I think I'll just move on to Chikara or PWG.

Man. What a letdown. And blowing what would sure to be a HUGE card in the Punk return thing with no hype or buildup at all. Man. That sucks. And Xaiver coming back? Are you shitting me? That's a pretty shitty card. Adam Pearce main eventing? Oy. I understand a tonne of talent getting called to Flordia, but c'mon man...

prof_plague - February 13, 2006 03:36 AM (GMT)
You think Punk coming back would have been a bigger deal.

Mad Dog - February 13, 2006 03:37 AM (GMT)
The RoHbots at DVDVR are creaming themselves over Xavier coming back. Me thinks they're trying to revise history to make his title reign look like something other than a complete disaster.

The Last Free Voice - February 13, 2006 03:49 AM (GMT)
Eh, he had a decent defense or two, but it's really hard to have shitty matches with some of the guys he faced.

And seriously, Punk's return, even for one night, should have been FUCKING HUGE. It should have been the culmination of a storyline, not a one-off thing to try to trick people into thinking the show didn't blow chunks. I'm usually pretty leniant with ROH, but this fucking sucks.

That's where I took these results from and I was thinking the same thing. There was a point about a year and a half ago where Xavier was on a couple shows and did a good job in the midcard, but they have no business bringing him back and putting him up against Danielson.........especially with him only getting a DQ victory.

Mad Dog - February 13, 2006 05:46 AM (GMT)
Yeah, why not just job CM Punk to the champion. Makes more sense.

The Last Free Voice - February 13, 2006 11:58 PM (GMT)
And would make a much better match...

prof_plague - February 14, 2006 12:10 AM (GMT)
Is this a random Punk/Danielson feud that should've have happened before he signed with the WWE?

The Last Free Voice - February 14, 2006 12:26 AM (GMT)
Well, all I can think of is that they had a pretty good little match at Reborn Stage One. It was kind of overshadowed by the Steamboat thing they had going on then.
